FEBRUARY 2015
Greetings from the Prez- Thanks to all for appearing on a cold and snowy
night in January! While it was cold outside, the prices inside were hot and our
"garage sale" appeared to be a success. Thanks to all for participating and
especially to the ladies that dealt with the leftovers! Next month we have a guest
speaker, so make sure you find time to come and enjoy. If anyone has something
to be addressed during the meeting, please give me a heads up beforehand. If you
wait to the day of the meeting to email me I may not get your message as I don't
always check things in the afternoon --- feel free to call or catch me before the
meeting starts. The meeting flows much more smoothly that way. See you in
February. Remember, no matter how nasty the weather, it IS the shortest month
of all! ~~ Kim
News from JVP - Thank you all who braved the weather, brought and bought
treasures at the January meeting. Jackie, our treasurer, has let me know you all
provided the guild with a fantastic boost to our income for this year! What a
wonderful bunch of quilters we have in our group. For April we do not have a
contracted speaker scheduled, so your JVP team will have an enjoyable evening
planned for you as well as an auction if there are any "leftovers" from the quilt
show. Come prepared to bid.
~~ Julie Mackey
Scrappy Block Exchange - The red/white/blue blocks were distributed and the
Red Hot Mama block turned in. The next pattern is not due to be finished until
March but hopefully the Red Hot Mama blocks will be available in February. So far
all is looking wonderful and last, but not least, the final block will be a Christmas
pattern. Think log cabinish! ~~ Kim Holihan
From the VP-Programs
There are still openings for the Sue Nickels class on Baltimore Album style machine quilting Friday at the Quilted
Cottage. The cost is $30 for guild members and $35 for non-members.
Rita Fishel will present a program in March on Creative Grids Rulers. There will be two different classes – one is
on the pineapple ruller and the other is on the curvy log cabin. ~~ Deb Tunney
Comfort Quilts - Ten volunteers were at the Comfort Quilts workday at Quilted Cottage Friday, January 23rd.
Special thanks to Cathy Engel, Jan Schell, Francine Dixon, Clara Martin, Amy Lafferty, Linda Birchmeier, Paula
Matuzak, Darlene Waters and Mary Ann Castillo for donating their time and talents to help the Saginaw Rescue
Mission. P.S. Oh yes, the co-chairs were there too (Lisa Bremer and Chris Pahssen-Noble).
Thanks as always to Quilted Cottage for their support by allowing us use of their sewing studio and storing our
supply of fabric and batting.
Special thanks also to Katy Sweigart, Jean Rose, Judy Piper, Tammy Mantel and Kim Holihan for quilting 10 twin
size quilts for the Rescue Mission. We still have quilts that need quilting. Our goal is to donate 20 twin sized quilts
to the Rescue Mission. Contact Lisa Bremer if you'd like to help.
We need your help. Not many quilt kits or joey bag kits have been picked up at the Guild meeting recently. A
child would love to snuggle up with a nice warm quilt on these chilly winter days. The women at the Rescue
Mission love the joey bags.
Our next workdays are Friday, February 27th and Friday, March 27th at Quilted Cottage. Come anytime between
10:30 am and 4:00 pm. You can sew quilts, make joey bags or cut fabric for kits. Bring your sewing machine,
rotary cutter, mat, etc. Fabric is supplied. Donations of batting or money for batting is greatly appreciated.
Comfort Quilts is guild supported but not funded by the guild.
Let's pay it forward. ~~ Lisa Bremer and Chris Pahssen-Noble, Co-chairs
Bodacious Boutique - Don’t forget!! Bring your items for the Quilt Show Bodacious Boutique to the
February guild meeting. Items can also be brought to the Fabric Fair – Attn: Pattye or to the Quilted Cottage.

Thank you. ~~ Ardie and Pattye – Bodacious Boutique co-chairs
UFO Challenge - UFO #6 is due this month. Thanks to all who filled in for me last month. A special thanks to
Kelley Kent who stepped up to take pictures in my absence. ~~ Judy Piper, CPIC
Spring Hartley -"Pioneer Days" - Spring Hartley is just around the corner! We almost have a full house
already! Are you planning to attend? Please let us know as soon as possible. The cut off is 40 attendees.
It will be a great way to re-live the ways of our ancestors, in addition to getting a lot of Spring sewing done.
What a great way to spend a winter weekend! Don’t forget: Your final amount is due at the February meeting.
If you can’t attend the meeting, please send your check to Sandie at that time.
March 6, 7, 8-2015 -- Cost: $98 for the weekend or $28 for one day -- Deposit: $25

Have a Heart this February
Bring in your boxes of cereal and/or any non-perishable items you may wish to donate to our
February Meeting! Or you may just wish to donate money and let them pick out what they need.
Whatever you do helps more then you know.
Rescue Ministries thanks you from the bottom of their hearts!!
Thanks, Clara
March 20-21, 2015
DON'T FORGET - Sign up at our February's meeting!
Jean Fritz will be signing up volunteers for all sorts of jobs. We need all your help to make this another successful
Quilt Show. You can sign up to help and work around your own schedule. Lots of fun and a great crew to work
with -- half the fun is in the set up. Chris and I have been planning and getting our committees ready and hope to
see a great turn out. ~~Chris & Clara, Quilt Show Co-Chairs
HELP! Bring in your donations to February's meeting.
REMEMBER OUR QUILT SHOW IS OUR BIGGEST FUND RAISER and it's only EVERY
OTHER YEAR!!! LOOKING for a way to fill your membership requirements?
We understand that not everyone can volunteer for set up of the quilt show but you
can help in other ways. You can contribute by donating items for our Bodacious
Boutique or donating new items for the baskets we fill for our drawing at the Quilt
Show. Sewing or related items and fat quarters are great, or something you
personally would bid on.
Get together with a few friends and make a movie night basket, or something you would like to win
yourself. If your group donates a filled basket, we will put your name on it as the donors!
As you look through your treasures for those items for our January sale, be sure to also check out
your new items that you bought and never used.
Thank you and let's make this a GREAT QUILT SHOW!!! ~~ Clara & Chris, Quilt Show Co-chairs
