to meet with Nick Powell

EP Budgeting 6.0 brought with it
major enhancements over Movie
Magic Budgeting 5.7. It
introduced a new 4th Level
Spreadsheet that links back to the
Details account level and made
budgeting for sets and locations
easier with new 'Set' and 'Location'
fields. Following the successful
launch of EP Budgeting and
Scheduling we are pleased to
announce the release of EP
Budgeting 6.1. The latest
improvements and features
include:
Improved backwards
compatibility with Movie Magic
Budgeting 5.7 making it even
easier to share files.
Improved performance. All
users, and MAC users in
particular, benefit from an
improvement in navigation
performance when working
between budgets.
Improved searching for all
budget levels.
4th Level - When inserting or
deleting rows or columns links to
Detail level cells will update
automatically.

Short Film
Summer School July 6th to 9th 2005
As part of Sargent Disc's training
initiative, there will be an
introduction to the latest
releases of EP Budgeting and
EP Scheduling at the Short Film
Summer School (SFSS). The
SFSS is a non-profit event,
taking place at the Curzon Soho
Cinema over 4 days from the 6th
to the 9th of July 2005. The
SFSS will provide training and
skill-building opportunities,
workshops, showcases,
presentations, master classes
and networking opportunities for
filmmakers of all abilities and

During my visit I had a chance to
see some of the current intake
on set shooting a short film.
Students regularly show their
work at film festivals, winning
numerous awards and in the
process getting the opportunity
to meet with people already
working in Film and TV. They
benefit by making contacts that
help them to make the transition
after graduation. However, as
you might expect from any good
academic institution it is not all
work, work, work. As I prepared
to leave the students were
gearing up for a party in the
student bar!

For many years Sargent Disc
has provided training to
seasoned professionals and
newcomers to the Film and TV
industries.
We provide training in conjunction
with industry bodies such as the
BECTU, PGGB and the NFTS,
running courses in payroll,
accounting with EP VISTA and
also Movie Magic and EP
Budgeting and Scheduling. Over
the past 2 years we have
undertaken a survey, asking all of
our trainees to complete a
questionnaire about the
relevance, content and tuition
provided.
When asked why they had chosen
the course, answers varied, but
the predominant theme was that
as industry professionals our
trainees were looking to update
their skills and improve their
confidence. Some courses had
been recommended by colleagues
or by an institution such as the
BBC. However, many first time
trainees using a new piece of
software wanted to see what the
programs were capable of doing
and felt they would be better
informed by doing an introductory
course.

two. Save time by using our SD
Editor to edit your payroll export
file before importing into VISTA.
The editor not only allows you to
change allocations but also to split
lines. It ensures that the total
value of the payroll file remains unchanged.
Our new look security

available in a .pdf
format for use on
location.

facility. The reports archive also

exporting and opening your
budgets in MMB to avoid any
discrepancies in your totals.
Foreign currency column allows
users to budget and view entire
productions using native or
budgeted rates for selected
currencies.
Note: The default setting is the
U.S. dollar.
EP Scheduling:
Create an unlimited number of
unique Stripboards, with
different sort orders.
Drag and drop fields onto strip
and report layouts in the Report
Layout Designer. A new ruler
has been added for reports. You
can also preview layouts before
saving them.

During my visit I had a chance to
see some of the current intake
on set shooting a short film.
Students regularly show their
work at film festivals, winning
numerous awards and in the
process getting the opportunity
to meet with people already
working in Film and TV. They
benefit by making contacts that
help them to make the transition
after graduation. However, as
you might expect from any good
academic institution it is not all
work, work, work. As I prepared
to leave the students were
gearing up for a party in the
student bar!
