September 2012
San Dimas Western Days
The biggest community and chamber event of the year!
Have you been looking for
a way to showcase your
business to thousands of
people and have fun in the
process? On October 6 and 7,
2012, the 45th rendition of
San Dimas Western Days
will take place in our
downtown district giving
businesses, organizations and
crafters the opportunity to
promote their products and
services.
What is this event? Western Days consists of various activities for the
entire family including games and rides for the kids, live entertainment on
the main stage, food vendors, crafters, business and vendor displays,
cowboy reenactments, a community parade, Little Miss San Dimas
competition, and so much more.
Why Does the Chamber host Western Days? It’s so much more than
just a great event. It’s our way of creating opportunities for businesses and
local organizations to network with others and promote who they are and
what they do. With the event activities and vendor sales we are generating
commerce along with creating awareness of Western history. Best of all, we
are promoting San Dimas.
How can you participate and Promote Your Business? Join the fun
and enjoy the activities and most importantly take advantage of promoting
your business or organization by registering to have a display booth. The
event also allows you to sell—so take advantage of the chance to increase
your sales.
Who doesn’t love a Parade? Being seen and meeting others will help
create awareness for your business and organization. Plus it’s fun.
Want to Show Your Community Spirit, Promote Your Company,
and Make the Event a Success? Become a Sponsor! Western Days is the
perfect opportunity for your organization to promote your business and
support the biggest San Dimas Chamber community event of the year. We
have everything from the Title Sponsor to General Supporter options
available.
Can I Help By Volunteering? YES! An event this size needs more
than 100 volunteers to help make everything work. Call and ask where
and when volunteers are needed. It doesn’t happen without volunteers.
Don’t miss out on this great opportunity. For more information about
Western Days, please call the San Dimas Chamber 909-592-3818 or visit
www.sandimaschamber.com.
THE PIONEER—THE OFFI CIAL NEWSLETTER OF SAN DIMAS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Notes from the City Manager
Blaine Michaelis
We have enjoyed a great summer.
Thank you to all of the volunteers and
organizations that have been a part of the
events, programs, and activities of the
summer. Music in the Park, Farmers
Market, City Birthday BBQ, Movies in
the Park and the other activities are all
great things for our community. We are
now pointed to the events of the next
season including San Dimas Day at the LA County Fair
September 28th, the annual San Dimas 5k run September
29th and Western Days and Rodeo October 6th and 7th. The
Farmers Market will conclude their season the last
Wednesday of September. Please join us and participate in
these events and activities. The fall edition of the Frontier –
the City’s Newsletter is now available and it is filled with
information and activities.
The city is in the midst of a major reconstruction of
Gladstone Street between Amelia and Lone Hill. The
project not only includes rebuilding the road, it has involved
work to address and upgrade some of the utilities as well.
We appreciate the patience of the neighborhoods and
motorists affected by this project. A street reconstruction
extends the life of a road to 30 or 40 years. The patience
will be rewarded with the uninterrupted use of the road for
a long time.
For many many years the Mayor has conducted a live
television show that accepts phone call questions or
comments. The show is live the Thursday after each city
council meeting – generally the second and fourth Thursday
of each month from 7-8 pm on Channel 3. Questions can
also be submitted by e-mail anytime by sending them to
askthemayor@ci.san-dimas.ca.us. The show is rebroadcast
several times until the next live show. Please tune in and
participate.
Again, thanks to all that have been a part of another
great summer. Please feel free to contact us at city hall if
you have any questions 909-394-6200 and check out our web
page at www.cityofsandimas.com.
The Chairman’s Notes
Elaine Regus, ERPR
The San Dimas Birthday BBQ was a
huge success thanks in large part to the
volunteers, who donated their time and
efforts to create an exciting and
entertaining experience for the whole
community.
If you recognized some of the people setting up tables,
serving food and cleaning up, that’s because they are the
core volunteers, who are the backbone of every chamber
event. They are the ones who give tirelessly to make San
Dimas a better place to live, work and do business.
You may have seen some new faces as well. They are
the ones, who saw a need and offered to help out.
One of the reasons I joined the chamber was to get
involved in the community. What I found was an everexpanding group of friendly, helpful and interesting
people, who share a passion for community service.
I suspect there are a lot of other people out there, who
want to get involved but aren’t sure how. It’s easy. Just
call the chamber and offer to help, if only for an hour or
two. You will be so happy knowing you have contributed
to your community and you’ll meet some great people in
the process.
“Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re
worthless, but because they’re priceless.” (Sherry
Anderson)
Here’s to good business.
