The additional revenue can be used for any Board of Education approved purpose. Mill levy overrides are held for a wide range of reasons. In recent years, school districts have frequently requested additional property taxes to support efforts of academic achievement and other operational items. Operational items could include: phone systems, rebuilding fund balance, salary increases, student transportation, student fee reduction, longer school day and year, etc. The numerous elections are caused in part by increasing demand for improvements in educational programs and the low rate of school financing in Colorado.
