Being
Kimberly
Whittaker is no tall task. The
6’0” former 2005 Miss Black
Pennsylvania from West
Philadelphia’s Parkside section of the city via Jamaica is
showing what it takes be successful.
The talented and versatile 26-year old graduate of
Temple University (2005) is
currently a teacher at the Richard Allen Charter School
in Southwest Philadelphia.
Her talents include being
an aspiring actress, singer and
leading Lady of the Ladies of
the Blue as their top ring girl
known as the “Show Stopper” for her creative themes
as a ring girl between rounds
at the Legendary Blue Horizon. Kimberly Whittaker is
grabbing the bull by the horns.
She recently landed a contestant role on the new hot
reality game show called "I
Survived A Japanese Game
Show" which aired last
Wednesday, June 17 th on
ABC at 9 pm.
“I saw a casting online,"
said Ms. Whittaker. "So, I
said 'what the heck,' it’s an
opportunity to win $250,000
dollars.
" So the reason I wanted
to be on the show was to win
the money. I went out to Japan during the live taping of
the show thinking that this
was going to be the greatest
opportunity in my life. I can’t
give out too much information so, I hope you can tune in
and watch the show."
During her Premier Party
at The Bridge Movie Theatre
on 40th & Walnut Street, Kim
invited friends, family and
other actors/actresses that she
met from the casting of the
movie “The Gift” to share in
the moment of her Reality
TV debut. The moment was
all Kim’s and she soaked it
up with style and class.
Kim says her goal, “was
to become a professional actress and work as an actress
for a living.” After graduating from Temple,
"I started teaching as a
literacy teacher" at the Richard Allen Charter School in
Southwest Philadelphia since
2005.
Back in ’73, Martha
Dillard’s boyfriend at the
time decided he needed to
work rather than take his
girlfriend to her West Philly
High School senior prom.
So, Martha Dillard went
stag and missed sharing
what is probably the most
important social event of
her high school years.
In fact, she says her
prom picture was taken with
three other girls and the
class treasurer - four girls
and one dude.
Rashida Dillard missed
her 2000 Overbrook High
School prom entirely. She
just couldn’t afford it.
She only remembers
getting through the night
knowing that her classmates
were enjoying what will be
their most memorial
evening of their high school
years.
And as time slipped by,
the two women, now adults,
want to turn back the clock
to capture that once in a
lifetime event that seemed
to have gotten away.
Yes, you can go back in
time, the two believe.
“Everybody needs a
second chance,” says
Rashida Dillard, cofounder,

Dillard, of the “Mothers
Always Trying to Help”
organization.
So the two women and

their nonprofit “Mothers” organization, are planning an
Adult Prom for people who
want to recapture that youthful moment.
“We looking for people
who never went on their
prom” or want to experience
it again, says Rashida Dillard,
a paralegal who worked with
children in her Silver Lightening Drill Team.
This is a semi and formal
event that the niece and her
aunt, Martha Dillard Bright,
are inviting couples from 25years and up - way up - who
want “that second chance.”
The Adult Prom is set for
July 17th at the Drexelbrook
Event Center. The cost is $85
per person that includes an
open bar and a full course
meal.
“We’re definitely going
back in time,” says Martha
Dillard Bright, a customer ser-
vice rep, who by the way
didn’t marry that guy who
rather work than take her to
her prom.
This prom will have all
the trappings of the real
thing: the crowning of a
Prom King and Queen;
dressing up in suits and
dresses, door prizes, and a
deejay playing Barry
White, the Whispers, the
Delfonics, Earth Wind &
Fire, and maybe, a little rap
- the clean kind.
The Mothers Always
Trying to Help organization was formed last year as
a vehicle to “encourage and
uplift mothers,” who are
struggle with life, family
and finances.

was a life-long dream that actually came true, said Kimberly.
"It’s very hard," she admitted. " Just waking up one day
and being in a pageant is not
going to cut it. Everything from
working out, interview training,
picking out the right dress, the
right swim suit...The only thing
you can think of is that you are
there and you’re actually the
winner.”
Kimberly continues to be
grounded and she says she owes
that to her mother, Mrs. Marva
Morman.
“The one inspiration that I
had always growing up is my
mother because she has been
through a lot since coming here
from Jamaica and not having
much. So, just watching how
my mom transitioned us from
Jamaica to America so we could
have a great education and be
successful is my drive everyday
to pay her back.”

Theatre Presents “Little Lamb”

“Little Lamb,” Playwright Michael Whistler’s
intriguing and thought-provoking drama about gay
adoption and the forced chose
of a devout Christian belief
set the premise of this play
that continuing performances
at The Adrienne, 2030
Sansom Street.
“Little Lamb,” tells the
story of Denny and Jose, a
gay couple who wants to be
'daddies,' so they decide to
adopt. They ask an adoption
agent, Cathy, to help them
procure a baby.
Trusting her instincts that
they would make great parents, Cathy finds Denny and
Jose an African-American
baby girl and the happy family begins its new life together.
But when Cathy receives
an unexpected visit from the
birth mother, Denny and
Jose must face the unthinkable and Cathy is forced to
choose between her progres-
sive values, her AfricanAmerican heritage and her
Christian beliefs.
Now I have been told by
some of our readers and
friends who went to see
“Little Lamb,” that the cast
captivated them with their
performances.
This stellar cast is made
up of Ames Adamson, the
innovative Frank X, Kaci M.
Fannin, Cathy Simpson and
Katrina Cooper.
“You know folks, the
InterAct Theatre has always
presented some of the most
diverse, fascinating, interesting, and intriguing plays over
the years.! And “Little
Lamb,” is no exception. It
tackles a blend of issues of
the sort that has become an
InterAct hallmark, multiple
themes: adoption, in this case
gay adoption; building
transracial families; and bigotry based on stereotypes in
Latino, African American,
gay, and religious communities.
Playwright Michael
Whistler, 46, is a gay man,
who has been writing plays
for 10 years and heads the
theater-arts program at Montgomery County Community
College, had met with
Wyndmoor Family therapist
Abby Ruder who is a renowned specialist who has
guided clients in the ways of
adoption, advanced reproductive technology, and

The adrenals glands are
located on top of the kidneys
and are triangular in shape.
They play a very important
part in our bodies, and are
quite busy multi-tasking.
The adrenal glands help
us deal with stress, and if the
physical or emotional stressors are prolonged for a longer
period of time, then we become mentally and physically
pooped!!!
The nutrients that play a
critical part in the optimal
function of the adrenal glands
are: Pantothene, B6, zinc,
magnesium, and Vitamin C.
You urinate more when
you are under stress, so you
excrete Vitamin C out of the
body, and it needs to be replaced.
Reduced adrenal function
is shown by the following:
weakness, lethargy, dizziness, and blood sugar disorders, headaches, memory

young people are “ready, willing
and able” to take full advantage
of $7.4 million in federal American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act (Recovery Act) funding for
youth employment available to
the City, so that they can “work,
learn and earn” this summer and
throughout the year.
In all, almost 9,000 young
people are expected to participate in WorkReady programs this

Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity, Bishop Audrey
Bronson has been a history maker, a courageous innovator
and a leader of clergy and the faithful in the Philadelphia
area.
“In more than three decades at Sanctuary Church of the
Open Door, of which she is founder and pastor, Dr. Bronson
has set the bar high. Guided by unswerving faith and a keen
sense of justice, she has achieved broad and significant
impact - secular as well as
religious — across the City of
Philadelphia.
Dr. Bronson has been a
pioneer in HIV/AIDS awareness, a renowned preacher of
the Gospel, and she has developed a preschool Academy, a
housing complex for the elderly and a youth sports program at The Open Door. She
has ever been a champion of
women’s empowerment and
gender equality within the religious community.

Conditions of Sheriff’s Sale for
JUDICIAL/FORECLOSURE SALE
Ten percent of the highest bid for each property auctioned off shall be deposited in cash,
certified check, attorney’s check or money
order with the Sheriff by each bidder when his
bid is registered, provided that in no case shall
less than Six Hundred Dollars ($600.00) be
deposited, otherwise upon failure or refusal to
make such deposit, the bidder shall lose all
benefit of his bid and the property may be
immediately offered again and sold unless a
second bid has been registered, then, the second highest bidder will take the property at the
highest bid price.
Additionally,
where there is active bidding, the highest
bidder, and the second highest bidder, if any
must post the entire amount of the cost of the
distribution policy for the property at the
time of sale by cash, certified check,
attorney’s check or money order with the
Sheriff.
The balance of the purchase money must be deposited in cash, certified check, attorney’s check or money order
together with a Deed poll for execution by the
highest bidder to the Sheriff at his office within
30 days from the time of the sale. An extension
of time for an additional 30 days may be
granted at the discretion of the Sheriff upon
receipt of written request from the buyer
requesting the same, except when a second
bidder has been duly registered. Also, if the
first bidder does not complete settlement with
the Sheriff within the thirty (30) day time limit
and a second bid was registered at the sale, the
second bidder shall be granted the same thirty
(30) day time limit to make settlement with the
Sheriff on his second bid. Thereafter, the Sheriff shall be at liberty to return the writ to court.
A second bid must be registered on any property immediately after it is sold. The second
bidder must present the same amount of deposit that the highest bidder delivers to the
Sheriff at the sale. An extension of time under
no circumstances will be granted or honored
by the Sheriff whenever a second bid is registered on a property at the sale.
The first bid or opening bid on each property
shall be a sum sufficient to pay all Sheriff’s
costs including advertising, all taxes, water
rents and municipal claims due to the City of
Philadelphia. If there is no other bid price
above the opening bid price, the property shall
be sold by the auctioneer to the attorney on the
writ at that price.
The deposit by any bidder who fails to comply
with the above conditions of sale shall be
forfeited and the funds will be applied to the
Sheriff’s cost, then to any municipal claims
that the City of Philadelphia has on the property. Finally, if a balance still remains, a
Sheriff’s Distribution Policy will be ordered
and the money will be distributed accordingly.
No personal checks, drafts or promises to pay
will be accepted in lieu of cash, certified
checks, attorney’s checks or money orders
made payable to the Sheriff of Philadelphia
County.
The Sheriff reserves the right to grant further
extensions of time to settle and further reserves the right to refuse bids from bidders
who have failed to enter deposits on their bids,
failed to make settlement, or make fraudulent
bids, or any other behavior which causes disruption of the Sheriff Sale. Said bidders shall be
so refused for the sale in which said behavior
occurred and for said further period of time as
the Sheriff in his discretion shall determine.
The Sheriff will not acknowledge a deed poll to
any individual or entity using an unregistered
fictitious name and may, at his discretion,
require proof of identity of the purchaser or
the registration of fictitious names. The bid of
an unregistered fictitious name shall be forfeited as if the bidder failed to meet the terms
of sale.
All bidders are advised to remain at the sale
until after the last property is sold. The Sheriff
reserves the right to re-sell any property at
any time before the end of the sale, upon the
successful bidders’ failure to tender the required deposit. The Sheriff reserves the right to
postpone or stay the sale of any property in
which the attorney on the writ has not appeared and is not present at the sale.

Web site of the Philadelphia Bureau of Revision of Taxes, (BRT) “brtweb.phila.gov” for
a fuller description of the properties listed.
Properties can be looked up by the BRT
number – which should be cross checked with
the address. Prospective purchasers are also
directed to the Philadelphia Department of
Records, at Room 154 City Hall, 215-6861483 and to its website at http://
philadox.phila.govwhere they can view the
deed to each individual property and find the
boundaries of the property. PROSPECTIVE
PURCHASERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR
DETERMINING THE NATURE, LOCATION, CONDITION AND BOUNDARIES

The “BRT #” refers to a unique number
