October Newsletter 07B
October 2007 Volume 20, Issue 1 Get the candy and apples ready! For those of you who did not have the luxury of checking the year’s outcome on the website, this (black and white) issue of the newsletter will hopefully serve to get you up to date on everything that has happened in the way of who won what and what direction BBRS is headed in 2008. For those (many more than I thought) that take the website as gospel, this is the website version in living color with all of 2007’s accomplishments in one document for you to print out if you have a notion. Although we got off to a bit of a rough start by not having a “real” annual meeting, the year went well and the much needed membership meeting came to fruition during the break between the go rounds at the finals, September 16th. Good to have another pretty fine year under our belts. Whew!! THANK YOU 2007 SPONSORS! 2007 OFFICERS President: Paula Harris 2009 Hwy 87 E Billings MT 59101 259-1692 BIllIngs Barrel RacIng SerIes Ex-Officio President: Judy Fox 10635 Pryor Rd Billings MT 59101 245-2535 Vice President: Vickie MacCarty P O Box 174 Pryor MT 59066 855-3699 Secretary/Treasurer/ WebRunner: Teri Davis 2745 Homer Davis Rd Shepherd MT 59079 406-373-6770 1st Yr. Director/Awards Ceremony Patty Propp 2007 Alkali Creek Rd Billings MT 59105 698-4890 What great sponsors BBRS has - even though we had a late start soliciting sponsors, nearly all of BBRS’s 2006 sponsors, plus several new, came through in time to provide awesome awards. Huge thank yous to Steve Miller and Judy Wagner of Montana Silversmiths for sponsoring all of the division trophy buckles and to Billie Bray of Classic Equine for donating all of the splint boots, bell boots and necessity totes. A very special thank you to outgoing sponsor director Terry Miller for assisting Alyce Hager in securing the corporate sponsorships and organizing the awards program. Believe me, it’s no small feat! Perry’s Trailer Sales and Stockman Bank once again sponsored a very nice overall saddle. The top ten overall winners each received Montana Silversmith “buckle” purses. Thank you to the following overall sponsors whose monetary commitments were responsible for those awards: Cover All Barns of MT, Christoferson Plumbing & Heating, Hill Quarter Horses, Billings Livestock Commission, Cenex Harvest States/Running Horse Feeds, Eide Bailly, GFK Trailer Sales, Phil’s Glass, Montana Homestead Brokers LLC/Cody Cox, and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, PC. The following sponsors provided gift certificates and or merchandise as awards: Montana Silversmiths, Classic Equine, Captured Memories, Rand’s Custom Hats, Al’s Bootery, Hoogie’s Truck Wash, Inc., Nutrilix/Karen Yost, Westfeeds, Inc., Dr. Vicki Bokum, Witt’s Custom Saddlery, Pelican Truck Plaza/Cedar & Sage Gift Shop, and Lextron. Western Ranch Supply and Tractor Supply Co. allowed BBRS special discounts on items that were purchased for awards. HOST ARENAS: Billings Saddle Club, Mark & Shelley Cain, Gary & Linda Crowder, Miller’s Horse Palace, Janet Schuh, John & Jamie Shaw, Thunder Ridge. It was great to see numerous arena owners at the awards ceremony to share the beef, beans and other great food!! Some thought it was due to futurity schedules and other barrel races in the region. Others felt it was due to the 40% rule requiring all horses to have competed at 6 BBRS barrel races to qualify for the finals. In any event, we hope that the changes voted in for the upcoming year will have the positive impacts intended for all the divisions in regard to nominations and entries. Be sure to read through the enclosed Rules & Guidelines and Bylaws. The changes have been bolded for your convenience. NOTES ON MEMBERSHIP AND INSURANCE: There were numerous infractions of BBRS’s rule this year that “only BBRS members are allowed horseback at BBRS events.” FYI BBRS is insured as a “riding club” and not a rodeo/public event. Therefore, BBRS does not hold public barrel races, it holds club/member events. Our insurance company charges higher premiums for “public events.” Our host arenas assume that everyone horseback at our barrel races are club members. We pay for liability insurance to protect BBRS against accidents and/or negligence caused by BBRS members only. SOO - If your guests are going to be horseback, they need to be members or you must make sure the host arena is aware that those individuals are not BBRS members!!! Another item of concern reported by fellow members: members’ children were observed climbing on and pretending to run equipment at host arena facilities, (among other things) apparently without permission or the parents’ knowledge. Please, please, please, keep track of your kids, make them mind or sit in your truck or trailer. We do not want the children injured and you don’t want it to be your fault that BBRS is not invited back to any of our host arenas!! Same goes for pets - tie them up to your rig!! Div Red listings did not meet 40% rule to qualify for awards and/or to run at finals.
