Paired with the sites is either a Corporal or Spiritual Work of Mercy. Partial and plenary indulgences can be earned for both pilgrimage and/or practice. March 2016 - Work of Mercy of the Month: CLOTHE THE NAKED, FEED THE HUNGRY and VISIT THE IMPRISONED Sponsored by: Angels of Mercy Ministry, CIA Youth Group, Knights of Columbus and Columbian Squires March 26 - Annual Holy Saturday Pilgrimage with Bishop Soto Pope Francis summarizes the questions to ask ourselves: About myself Am I a believer who is somewhat worldly and only somewhat believing? Do I overindulge in eating, drinking, smoking, or being entertained? Am I overly concerned about my physical well-being and my possessions? How I do use my time? Am I lazy? Do I desire to be served? Do I love and safeguard purity in my heart, thoughts, and deeds? Do I plot vengeance or harbor resentments? Am I gentle and humble? A peacemaker? Now I can examine myself about the concrete actions that mercy requires and by which we will be judged: Have I given food to the hungry and drink to the thirsty? Have I welcomed the stranger and clothed the naked? Have I set aside time and had the courage to visit the sick and the imprisoned? Have I helped anyone be released from doubts that make him or her fearful and that are often the source of loneliness? Have I participated in overcoming ignorance by supporting education, especially for the young? Have I told those who live in sin about the need for conversion? Have I been a neighbor to someone who is lonely and afflicted? Have I forgiven those who offend me and resisted every kind of resentment and hate? Have I been patient with others based on the example of God who is so patient with us? Have I commended my brothers and sisters to prayer? Sacrament of Reconciliation Did you know that you have more opportunity for confession at Divine Mercy? Yes, during this Holy Year of Mercy, there is the Sacrament of Reconciliation one hour prior to Mass, except on Sundays. For more information on the Year of Mercy, check out www.mercystudy.com 1. This Lenten season of the Holy Year of Mercy, let us contemplate on the Diary of St. Faustina # 741. Let us pray for the conversion of sinners during this time of great mercy, before the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ…the time of final judgement. 741 Today, I was led by an Angel to the chasms of hell. It is a place of great torture; how awesomely large and extensive it is! The kinds of tortures I saw: the first torture that constitutes hell is the loss of God; the second is perpetual remorse of conscience; the third is that one’s condition will never change; (160) the fourth is the fire that will penetrate the soul without destroying it - a terrible suffering, since it is a purely spiritual fire, lit by God’s anger; the fifth torture is continual darkness and a terrible suffocating smell, and, despite the darkness, the devils and the souls of the dammed see each other and all the evil, both of others and their own; the sixth torture is the constant company of Satan; the seventh torture is horrible despair, hatred of God, vile words, curses and blasphemies. These are the tortures suffered by all the dammed together, but that is not the end of the sufferings. There are special tortures destined for particular souls. There are the torments of the senses. Each soul undergoes terrible and indescribable sufferings, related to the manner in which it has sinned. There are caverns and pits of torture where one form of agony differs from another. I would have died at the very sight of these tortures if the omnipotence of God had not supported me. Let the sinner know that he will be tortured throughout all eternity, in those senses which he made use of to sin. (161) I am writing this at the command of God, so that no soul may find an excuse by saying there is no hell, or that nobody has ever been there, and so no one can say what it is like. Beloved is a Young Adult Ministry at Divine Mercy Catholic Church for young adults between 18-39.
