The SAM® System
®
15 mm
Since 1971 SAM® Articulators have been built as Arcon Type to simulate patient anatomy in the laboratory. SAM ® products enjoy a presence worldwide
in dental schools, graduate programs, research,
and in all areas of clinical dentistry. SAM ® is
known for precision in engineering, design, and
manufacturing.
The SAM® AXIOGRAPH®, SAM® AXIOTRON®, and
the SAM® AXIOQUICK® recorder are mandibular
movement recording devices that can be used for
examination, research, diagnosis, treatment planning, and therapy. In addition, all devices provide
data for the programming of SAM articulators.
SAM® SE ”Special Edition“
The SAM® SE has been designed using fiber glassreinforced space age plastics that are light, durable, and as precise as the aluminium versions.
All vital ergonomic features have been incorporated into the design of the new SAM® SE Articulator.

• All SAM ® Articulators are made to simulate
patient anatomy such that the upper cast has
the same cranial relationship as the patient
•Adjustable Condylar Pathway Housing
with Standard Curvature 1
•Bennett Guidance corresponds to the
green insert in the SAM ® system.
Assembly:
The SAM® SE articulator is delivered in an articulator box or as part of the SAM® Articulator Kit with
Anatomic Facebow.
4
Place the incisal pin sleeve into the articulator lower member as far as possible and secure it with
the SAM® thumb screw (18).
Check if the Centric Locking Assembly is open or
closed
centric lock closed
You can secure Centric Locking Assembly with the
small thumb screw (10).
centric lock open
With the Centric Locking Assembly open, the upper
member and the lower member can be easily removed or reattached.
With the centric lock closed, push the condylar element against the vertical spring loaded plastic centric locking device and the condylar element will
pop into a centric locked position. To firmly hold in
position, tighten the thumb screw (10).

If individualized horizontal condylar inclination values are not used, an average value of 30° can be
used.
To change the inclination angulation, loosen the
thumb screw about a half turn, make your changes,
and retighten the screws.
Function of the Curvatures:
The curvature shows the movement of the condyle
on its pathway. Setting the condylar housing HCI
to 30° will result in a changing of pathway inclination as the condylar element moves downward
and forward or downward, inward and forward. A
more shallow HCI pathway can be set by reducing
the articulator HCI value.
Mean Average Condylar Pathway
Adjustment: HCI 30°
Protruson and Laterotrusion Movements
Moving the lower member condylar element medial
towards the yellow condylar housing will automatically engage the Bennett Guidance. Further movement will result in the condylar element moving
forward and further inward to complete the lateral
movement and resulting mediotrusion effect.
Hint:
If a protrusion mounting of the lower cast is
desired, place the desired millimeter amount
distal to the condylar element and lock the condyles in position with the thumb screw. Secure
the lower cast to the lower mounting plate.

AXIOQUICK® Anatomic Facebow
The SAM® Esthetic Cranial Related
Anatomic Facebow is used to record
and transfer patient anatomy to
any SAM® articulator.
Please consult the AXIOQUICK® Anatomic Facebow Manual for
complete details.
Mounting Pin for Anatomic
Facebow on the SE
You can attach the facebow directly to the articulator. Remove the hygienic earpiece caps from both
earpieces and position the hole in each earpiece in
contact with the small pins distal to the condylar
elements. The anterior part of the facebow is in
contact with the flat surface of the incisal table. Be
sure to tighten the facebow thumb screw.
If you do not use the telescopic transfer fork suppoprt, we highly recommend the SAM® Acrylic Block
(ART 634).
Using the Acrylic Block also serves to support mounting the lower member.
7
Optional Accessories:
All SAM® accessories can be used with the SE articulator (see current SAM catalog).
Adjustable Incisal Table
The Adjustable Incisal Table can be used to simulate anterior guidance pathways from data gathered from patient mounted casts or from diagnostic
waxups.
Table angles can be set for protrusion or lateral movement pathways.
Transfer Stand AX
Instead of attaching the Facebow directly to the
articulator for transfering, you can use the universal transfer stand AX (ATB 398) and the Telesopic
Transfer Fork Support.
Occlusal Plane Indicator (Curved)
The Occlusal Plane Indicator (ART 385) is used in
complete prosthodontic setups or can be used
for average value setup positioning of the upper
cast in the articulator, in the absence of a facebow
transfer.
