250355 - Rob Tognoni
One of few true virtuoso Blues-Rock guitar heroes of the 21st century, certainly the most
energetic, ferocious and uncompromising, Rob Tognoni returns with “Casino Placebo,” which
will be released on the Blues Boulevard label (Music Avenue), on October 18, 2013.
Born in Tasmania, Rob Tognoni first made his name with the multi award-winning Australian
band The Outlaws before being discovered by fellow Australian slide guitar master Dave
Hole, who brought him to Europe. Rob’s debut album “Stone And Colours” (1995) led to
immediate worldwide recognition and tours with the likes of Sting. He also played at the World
Cup for the Australian football team.
Nearly two decades and a dozen albums later, this Tasmanian Devil is one of the most
exhilarating electric guitar players around
today. His repertoire is a blend of Classic
Rock, Blues, and Blues-Rock, which he plays
with invigorating zeal and incomparable
attack. It’s been said that only Jimi Hendrix,
Rory Gallagher and Stevie Ray Vaughan
could shake hands with him if they were alive
today. With initial influences ranging from the
legendary Blues masters like BB King to hard
rockers AC/DC by way of Jimi Hendrix, by now
Tognoni’s fancy fretwork of catchy riffs,
crushing chords, and explosive solos posses
something that only few guitarists have;
character and a very own, unique style.
On “Casino Placebo,” besides his trademark
rock-crunching guitar sound, killer licks and
searing solos, Tognoni revisits The Beatles, adds a pinch of psychedelia, coupled with a
classic feel of James Bond morphing into love and heartbreak and finally to an amusing
Australian breakfast...Well…we did say the man was unique!
Besides “Something,” (featured on the 1969 album “Abbey Road”), the Beatles song written
by lead guitarist George Harrison, and the only song written by him to top the US charts while
he was in the band, the new album features another eleven Rob Tognoni originals. Rob’s
songwriting talents have continuously progressed over the years and have now reached a
very mature level in both style and substance, on the new album every song’s a memorable
winner.
After nearly 40 years – of which three decades professionally – of explosive guitar playing
Rob Tognoni now ranks among the elite practitioners of the genre. His brand of
uncompromising high-octane Power-Blues-Rock combined with superb songwriting and
evocative lyrics are now favorably compared with the greats in his field and have garnered
him a loyal following amongst worldwide aficionados of electric Blues-Rock and beyond.
One of the hardest working players on the scene – he tours relentlessly – Tognoni is firmly
established around the European venues and festivals, occasionally also foraying into North
America. After playing over 50 dates around Europe in the spring and summer of this year,
Rob Tognoni will play over 30 gigs from September 12 onwards, during his 2013 autumn–fall
tour, performing in Austria, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Poland and the UK.
