Home Screens
Use the Setup Wizard to
set up your accounts and to
view helpful information about
the phone.
The Mesmerize features
seven Home screens
that you can populate
with frequently used
icons for apps, games
and various other
functions. Access
these Home screens
by simply swiping
your finger left
or right in
Standby mode.
1. From the Home screen, touch Menu
Settings
Setup Wizard.
2. Follow the prompts to configure:
• Add accounts: Configures access to your
Facebook®, Twitter™, MySpace™, Corporate
Exchange or Google™ accounts.
• My Location: Configures your phone’s use of
location services.
Linking and Unlinking Contacts
Using the Camera and Camcorder
Your phone can synchronize with multiple
accounts, including Google™, Corporate
Exchange, and other email providers, plus
social networking sites like Facebook®,
Twitter™ and MySpace™.
To Take Pictures:
1. From the Home screen, touch Applications
Camera.
2. Using the display as a viewfinder, compose your
picture by aiming the lens at the subject.
• Touch the screen to set the focus and wait for the
green indicator light.
• Press the Volume key to zoom in
or out.
3. To take the picture, touch the Camera key.
4. After taking a picture, touch Image Viewer to view
the picture. While viewing the picture, you have the
following options:
• Touch the zoom icons to zoom incrementally,
or double-tap on the picture to zoom all the
way in or out.
• Touch Delete to erase the picture.
• Touch Share to send the picture via AllShare™,
Gmail™, Picasa™ , Facebook®, email,
messaging and more.
• Touch Set as to assign the picture as a contact
icon or as wallpaper.
• Touch Back to return to the Camera to take
more pictures.
Note: When entering recipients, matching contacts appear. Touch the
contact to add it to the recipient list.
3. Touch the Type to compose field, or touch Next,
and compose your message. While composing a
message, touch Menu for these options:
• Add subject: Add a subject field to the message
and enter a subject. (This option also converts the
message to MMS.)
• Attach: Add content to the message to convert it
to MMS.
– Pictures: Adds a picture.
– Capture picture: Takes a new picture.
– Videos: Adds a video.
– Capture video: Records a new video.
– Audio: Adds a sound clip.
– Record audio: Creates a new audio clip.
– Slideshow: Adds a slideshow of pictures to
this message.
• Insert smiley: Adds a text emoticon to the message.
• Cancel: Cancels the message.
4. Touch Send to send the message.
Linking imported contact records to a phone contact
allows you to see all the contact’s numbers and
addresses together in one contact entry.
To Link Contacts:
1. From the Home screen, touch Contacts.
2. Touch a phone contact to display its information.
3. Touch Menu
Link Contact.
4. Touch an imported contact record to link it to the
phone contact.
To Unlink Contacts:
1. From the Home screen, touch Contacts.
2. Touch a contact to display its information.
3. Touch the Linked Contacts field to display linked
contacts.
4. Touch a contact to unlink.
Using Applications and Widgets
Many widgets are preloaded on the
Mesmerize, while 70,000 more applications
and games are available for download
through Android Market™. Your preloaded
widget icons and applications are displayed
on the applications screen.
To Add Widgets to the Home Screen:
1. Navigate to the desired Home screen, then touch
and hold on the screen to display the Add to Home
screen menu.
2. Touch Samsung Widgets or Android Widgets,
then touch a selection to add it to the Home screen.
To Remove Widgets from the Home Screen:
1. Touch and hold the widget until the Trashcan
appears, then drag the widget to the Trashcan.
To Access All Applications:
1. From the Home screen, touch Applications.
2. Sweep your finger right or left to scroll through the
Applications screens.
3. Touch an application’s icon to launch it.
Tip: The first time you turn your phone on, the Setup Wizard will prompt
you to personalize your phone.
Swipe down on the top line of the Home
screen to control the connectivity for
Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth®, GPS and Airplane Mode.
To Access Applications:
1. From the Home screen, touch Messaging
New message.
2. Tap the To field to enter recipients:
• Enter contacts by name
• Enter phone numbers
• Enter email addresses
In addition to the limitless customization
options offered by the Android platform,
you can make the Mesmerize your own by
adding custom tones for specific contacts,
setting multiple alarms and selecting
unique wallpaper.

To Capture Videos:
1. From the Home screen, touch Applications then
Camera. Touch the Camera icon in the upper right
hand corner to switch to the Camcorder mode.
2. Using the display as a viewfinder, compose your
shot by aiming the lens at the subject. Press the
Volume key to zoom in or out.
3. To start recording, touch Record.
4. To stop recording, touch Stop.
5. After recording, touch Image Viewer to view the
video. While viewing the video, you have the
following options:
• Double-tap on the video to zoom all the way in
or out.
• Touch Share to send the video via AllShare™,
Bluetooth®, Gmail™, YouTube™, messaging
or email.
• Touch Play to
review the video.
• Touch Delete to
erase the video.
• Touch Back to
return to the
Camera to take
more videos.
Using the Advanced Web Browser
To access the full HTML web browser from
the Home screen, select Browser.
Tips for Navigating the Web:
• Touch and drag your finger on the screen to navigate
pages, and to reposition pages within the screen.
• Touch a text field to display the virtual QWERTY
keyboard to enter text.
• Use gestures and menus to navigate links on pages:
– Touch an item or hyperlink to select it.
– Touch and hold on a hyperlink for these options:
- Open: Goes to the linked page.
- Open in new window: Opens a new window
to display the linked page.
- Bookmark link: Adds a bookmark to linked
page (without loading it).
- Save link: Saves the linked page to
download history.
- Share link: Sends the link via Bluetooth®,
Gmail™, email or message.
- Copy link URL: Saves the link’s URL to the
clipboard.
Your Virtual QWERTY Keyboard
You can also place shortcuts to applications on the
Home screen for even faster access.
Your phone uses a virtual QWERTY
keyboard for text entry. Access the
keyboard by touching any Text Entry
field.
To Add Application Icons to the Home Screen:
1. From the Home screen touch Menu then Add.
2. Touch Shortcuts then Applications.
3. Touch the application you want to add to a Home
screen.
Your Phone Offers Three Text Input Methods:
• Swype™
• Android keyboard
• Samsung keypad
Note: The Home screen must have space available for a new icon. If no
space is available the Add soft key will not be active.
Downloading Applications:
From the Menu screen, press the Android Market™
icon. You will be instructed to log in, then you can
browse thousands of games and applications to
download and customize your Mesmerize.
Note: To change the input method, touch and hold your finger on a
text input field, then select an input method:
Setting Daylight Saving Time on
the AccuWeather® Clock Widget.
1. From the Home screen, select Accuweather Clock
widget, then select Menu.
2. Select DST on.
Access a Website by Entering the Address in the URL Field:
1. From the Home screen, select Browser.
2. Touch the URL field at the top of the screen, then
enter the URL using the virtual QWERTY keyboard.
As you enter characters, potential matches display.
3. Touch a match to complete the URL or continue
entering characters.
4. Touch Go to load the page.
Making Calls
Use Up to Eight Browser Windows at One Time:
1. From the Home screen, select Browser.
2. To open a new window, touch Menu
New
window.
3. To switch to another open window, touch Menu
Windows. Touch a window to display it.
4. To close a window, touch Menu
Windows. Touch
Close beside a window to close it.
To Answer Calls:
To answer an incoming call, touch and drag the
phone icon to the right.
Bookmark a Site to Access It Quickly in the Future:
1. When on the desired website, touch Bookmarks next
to the URL field.
2. The new website is displayed as a thumbnail with the
command Add. Touch the bookmark to add it.
3. At the Add bookmark prompt, confirm the name and
location for the bookmark, then touch OK to save the
bookmark.

Tips on Entering Text Using Swype:
• Spacing is automatic: When you finish a word, just
lift your finger and start the next word.
• Double letters: Just make a scribble motion on the
letter to double it.
• Capitalization: Swype recognizes and capitalizes the
first word of sentences. If you want to capitalize a word
that isn’t at the beginning of a sentence, just glide above
the keyboard before gliding over the next letter.
• Contractions: Swype recognizes most words that
include an apostrophe.
• Punctuation: Tap and hold a key to view the
punctuation menu and make a selection.
• Accented characters: Just glide through the letters
of the word. Swype usually recognizes the word
and correctly accents the letters.
• Error correction: If you make a mistake,
double-tap the word you want to change.
Your phone offers multiple ways to make calls:
• Use the touch screen Phone Dialer to enter the
phone number or speed dial number.
• Call a contact from Contacts.
• Call a contact from Favorites.
• Return a call, or call a recent caller, from Call log.
• Voice dial using Voice Commands.
To End a Call:
To end a call, touch the End Call icon.
To Answer Call Waiting:
• Touch Answer to answer the incoming call. The
original call is placed on hold, and remains on hold
until you end the second call, or swap calls back to
the original call.
• Touch Swap to place a call on hold and return to
the original call.
