when you create a

In addition to a vast amount of information, Britannica
2005 provides tools for following the basic steps in
creating a research report.
You can add your
own .jpg or .gif
pictures to a Research
Organiser report.
Open the File menu,
select New Note Card
and Image. Select
your picture.
The Encyclopædia Britannica Ultimate Reference Suite
2005 provides three complete Libraries of information
tailored to your family’s needs. Any member of your
family – whatever their age – can use this powerful tool to
search or browse for knowledge in a variety of sources.
Encyclopædia
Britannica Library:
Advanced level, more
information and more
articles.
After choosing a Library, use the Search box, any of
the Browse modes or the feature buttons to activate
the appropriate tool in the Workspace or the Control
Panel. All searching and browsing happens in the
Library you select.
Encyclopedia: Find

Get started:
• Install the program. See the Installation Instructions in
the program disc case. Be sure to register Britannica
2005 to receive updates and benefits.

1. Select a Library using the tabs above the Workspace.

Browse through alphabetical titles:
1. After choosing a Library from the tabs located
above the Workspace, click the Browse button
above the Workspace to see the Browse options.
2. Click the A-Z
button in the
Control Panel to
display an
alphabetical list
of article titles.
Type the first few letters of a word to jump to that
section of the list.

Dictionary/Thesaurus:
Use singular words
and known phrases.
3. Media displays an alphabetical list of audio and
video clips. Classics lists notable pieces from three
centuries of Britannica articles. Year in Review features articles from
Britannica’s Book of the Year series.

Browse through history:
1. After choosing a Library from the tabs located
above the Workspace, open a Timeline by clicking
the Timelines button.
2. To select a topic for the Timeline, click a label, such
as Exploration, at the bottom of the Timeline. (In
the Elementary Library, all topics are in one
Timeline.)
To see more topics, click the arrows at either end
of the topic list.
The Event nearest to the date selected on the Time
Scale appears in the centre of the Timeline
window.

Each Library has its
own Atlas and
Timelines.
1. After choosing a Library from the tabs located above the Workspace, click
the Atlas button. The World Atlas is different in each Library and the maps
link to different articles.

2. Click a “hot” label on the map to open either an article from the current
Library or another map. Additional maps or articles related to the map
you’re viewing can be accessed via the Links tab at the right of the Atlas.

Britannica 2005 provides a wide range of
information in its articles, maps, images and videos.
An article can be as brief as a paragraph or as long
as a book, with many sections.
Table of Contents: List
of all sections of an
in-depth article.
Learn from Britannica articles:
• To open an article, conduct a Search and click a
link in the Search Results or use any of the Browse
options. They all link to articles. Articles open in
the Workspace, on the right side of the screen.
• To navigate through previously viewed content in
an article, use the forward and back arrows on
the toolbar inside the article window.
4. Click a centered topic that displays the article icon
to open the article in the Workspace. (See the Help
file within the program for more information.)
4. To read a related article, click Learn more in the
Event box. An article opens in a separate window.

1. Choose the Encyclopædia Britannica Library tab
above the Workspace.

the Previous Event or Next Event boxes.

icon at its left in order to
