SPONSORED BY: ARTS WALK Sierra LaPoint SPOKEN MUSIC: THE POETIC PULSE Rhyming and Timing in the Modern World with Sierra LaPoint Thursday, June 7 at 6:30 p.m. Downtown Riverside Public Library 3581 Mission Inn Avenue 6:30 - 7:00 Meet and Greet 7:00 - 7:30 Sierra Sings and Plays 7:30 - 8:00 Audience Sings and Plays Along Sierra LaPoint is a local performance poet for whom the sounds of selected syllables spoken together are almost as significant as the words and statements themselves. Emphasizing mood and moments of raw emotion, LaPoint’s work seeks to encapsulate the range of sensations evoked by a given experience. In a ‘slam’ style deriving from theater, spoken word and underground hip-hop, LaPoint’s performances use rolling rhythm, rhyme, and personal cadence to portray the innately human attempt to understand one’s self and one’s surroundings. LaPoint was awarded Third Place at a national poetry slam in 2010. She has performed regularly in Southern California and appeared alongside Def Jam Poets at the opening of the Culver Center for the Arts in downtown Riverside. Most recently, LaPoint was featured at the opening of Studio Ping Pong in Brighton, England.
