Arlington Square renovation receives beautification award!
Our $6.5 million dollar renovation and
expansion is complete
Award

NewMark Merrill Companies
announced the completion of the
$6.5 million dollar renovation and
expansion of Arlington Square
Shopping Center in Riverside. A
few prime spaces are still available at the 98,742
square foot center, which is 95% leased.
★
The 8 month renovation transformed the 40-year-old
center into a contemporary shopping destination
with a new fountain courtyard, new clock tower
and a complete facelift. A long vacant, corner bank
building was also replaced with two 4,500 sq.ft.
pad buildings.
The architectural firm of McKentley-Malak
Architecture designed the buildings and Primus
Construction oversaw both the remodel and new
construction. Andrew Dewar, Director of Development
and Construction for NewMark Merrill, oversaw
the redevelopment and Brad Pearl, Vice President
of Leasing and Acquisitions, oversaw the implementation of the entire redevelopment plan and
its entitlements with the City of Riverside. This is
the Company’s second project in the City of
Riverside and it’s second Fresh & Easy market.

Hampton Inn & Suites opens it’s doors!
Newmark Merrill’s Thousand Oaks Marketplace continues the
companies expansion with the completion of the first phase of the
155,000 square foot property which started in August of 2008. Formerly occupied by Home Depot, the site now
houses a Hampton Inn & Suite and 13,000 square foot Walgreens Pharmacy. The opening of the 125-room
Hampton Inn & Suites completed phase one development of Thousand Oaks Marketplace. Plans to develop a second
phase will add 74,466 square feet of retail space.

contracts in California totaling 425,950 square feet
NewMark Merrill Companies is proud to announce the addition of five new Property
Management contracts totaling 425,950 square feet, as an addition to its expanding list
of clients. The shopping center contracts include:
• Del Amo Plaza is located at 11877 Del Amo Blvd. in Cerritos. Anchored by
Starbucks and Bally’s Total Fitness, this 58,126 square foot shopping center is located
in a market we know well.
• Paraiso Town Center in Dos Vientos Ranch, Newbury Park. This 72,031 square
foot shopping center is home to Mama Rita’s Mexican Food, Paraiso Family Dental
and Orthodontics, Fitness Together, Red Coral Sushi Restaurant and more.
NewMark Merrill Companies announces the
first Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market has
opened in Whittier. The store held an official
ribbon cutting ceremony on February 24th to launch the Grand
Opening celebration where more than 100 excited shoppers
lined up.
The 14,500 square foot store
continues NewMark Merrill
Companies impressive retail
growth. The new store is coanchored by Big Lots in the
company’s Whittier shopping center, located on Whittier Boulevard, west of Painter
Avenue. Fresh & Easy continued its grand opening tradition
with a $1,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Whittier.

NewMark Merrill Companies continues its impressive retail growth by
signing a lease with Fresh & Easy
Neighborhood Market for a 15,000
square foot store at El Cajon Town &
Country Shopping Center. The new
Fresh & Easy grocery store is the catalyst for a $3 million renovation of
the property which is located on a
4.5-acre site on the southwest corner
of North 2nd Street and Madison
Avenue in El Cajon, California.

ideally-located along the going-home
side of a very busy retail corridor,

remodel is vitally important for El
Cajon Town & Country Shopping
Center to be competitive for firstclass tenants interested in this great
East County market.”
The renovated center will feature the
new Fresh & Easy and the existing
Rite Aid as anchor tenants. Other
pad and in-line tenants will occupy
the balance of the space which is
now approximately 93% leased.
The shopping center was built in the
early 1960’s. NewMark Merrill
Companies purchased the 53,000
square foot El Cajon Town &
Country Center in early 2008.
Several existing tenants have
extended their current leases and
negotiations are pending with several other new merchants. Sandy
