WHY
WE’RE HERE
The Y offers more than programs and services, we
ensure that every individual has access to the
essentials needed to learn, grow, and thrive.
Our Mission
To put Christian principles into practice through
programs that build healthy spirit, mind,
and body for all.
Our Four Core Values
Caring – Honesty – Respect – Responsibility
Areas of Focus
Youth Development
Healthy Living
Social Responsibility
Our fitness classes not only improve someone’s
physical health; they help unleash a new outlook on life.
Our family activities not only bring families together,
they help families stay together.
Our youth programs not only teach children to dribble
or how to swim, they provide kids lifelong lessons like
confidence and teamwork.
The Y, always here for you.
FOR
YOUTH
DEVELOPMENT
Nurturing the potential of every child and teen
We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are
and what they can achieve. That’s why, through the YMCA, millions of
youth today are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to
positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement.
FOR
HEALTHY
LIVING
Improving our community’s health and well-being
In neighborhoods across Grays Harbor, the YMCA is a leading voice on
health and well-being. The Y brings families closer together, encourages
good health and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and
shared interests. As a result, over 7000 youth, adults and families are
receiving the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater
health and well-being for their spirit, mind and body in Grays Harbor.
Giving back and providing support to our neighbors
The YMCA has been listening and responding to Grays Harbor’s most
critical social needs for over 110 years. Whether developing skills or
emotional well-being through education and training, welcoming and
connecting diverse demographic populations through global services, or
preventing chronic disease and building healthier communities through
collaborations with policymakers, the Y fosters the care and respect all
people need and deserve.

Code of Conduct
The Board of Directors of the YMCA of Grays Harbor
recognizes the right for all YMCA members to enjoy
participation in programs and facilities without fear for
personal safety or verbal abuse. The YMCA Staff is
empowered to suspend membership privileges for anyone who
acts in a manner which negatively affects other members.
Accidents
The YMCA does not carry public health or accident insurance.
All individuals participate at their own risk.
Supervision of Children
For everyone’s safety, no child under the age of 9 should be
left unattended in any area of the YMCA. Children 2nd grade
or under must be in a supervised area (Busytown, Impact
Center, Goldberg Family Discover Center, or Rec. Swim) or
have direct supervision of a parent/guardian or responsible
member 13 years or older. This does not pertain to youth
participating in a supervised specific program.
It is the YMCA’s policy to notify police when any minor
(17 and under) is left unattended at closing.
Cancelling of a Membership
Cancelling of your membership must be presented in writing
to the YMCA 30 days in advance to your bank draft.
Refunds
The joining and membership fees are non-refundable. Unused
fees may be considered donations to the YMCA.
Weapons
The YMCA and its property are a drug, alcohol, weapons and
tobacco free zone.
EVERYONE
IS WELCOME
We’re proud to ensure that the Y is accessible to everyone, and we never want anyone to be turned away for an
inability to pay. Don’t hesitate to ask about financial assistance for programs or membership.
We’re happy to help.
For All Program
The YMCA of Grays Harbor is for everyone. If you need
financial assistance to participate in the YMCA, please
contact the front desk and ask about our For All Program.
The YMCA of Grays Harbor strives to provide services for
any youth, adult or senior who desires to participate in
membership or programs. The YMCA of Grays Harbor
believes a strong sense of ownership and pride is developed
if recipients contribute to the cost of YMCA involvement.
Those not able to pay the membership or program fee may
be awarded a scholarship based on the YMCA’s ability to
fund the membership or program through the Annual
Campaign, Endowment Support and other funding sources
secured by the YMCA. This is done by a sliding fee system
and special circumstance requests.
“The Y has helped me to lose 35lbs. I started
coming to the Y because they offer low-income
assistance and this has helped me to provide
swimming for my son and exercise for me. This
has really made a difference to me for the stress
relief and spiritual enlightenment it has brought to
me and my son’s life without the Y actually caring
and offering low-income assistance, I never would
have been able to feel more physically and
mentally fit.”

A.W.A.Y. Program
A.W.A.Y. means “Always Welcome at YMCAs”. The A.W.A.Y.
program is based on the philosophy that when a person
enrolls in a YMCA, he or she becomes a member of a
nationwide association of people that help build strong kids,
strong families, and strong communities. Therefore, when
away from home, members on business or vacation will be
warmly welcomed by all other participating YMCAs in the
United States. YMCA members temporarily visiting from out
of town may use our YMCA for 10 visits in a calendar year.
YMCA A.W.A.Y. guests must present a valid membership card
from their home YMCA and a driver’s license.
“Coming to the YMCA has
impacted my family’s
lifestyle in a positive way.
We participate in
Taekwon-Do and swim
lessons. The Y has brought

100 Mile Swim Club
Looking for a way to stay motivated in your swim workout? Join
the 100 mile swim club. Simply keep track of the laps you swim
during each workout at the Y and record your yardage/mileage.
When you reach 100 miles, you will receive a 100 mile club tshirt and recognition certificate.
How many laps is a mile?
Length= One end of the pool to the other (25 yards)
Lap = Down and back (50 yards)
1 mile = 1,650 yards
Approximately 66 lengths or 33 laps equal one mile
Goal: 100 miles (165,000 yards or 3,300 laps!)
How can you get to 100 miles? It’s as easy as:
2 miles a week equals 100 miles in about 50 weeks.
3 miles a week equals 100 miles in about 33 weeks.
1 mile a day, 5 days a week, equals 100 miles in 20 weeks.

enough to eat and drink before exercising to prevent
dizziness or light-headedness. If you are experiencing
dizziness, pain or unusual discomfort at any time, stop
the exercise and ask staff for help.
5. Help us keep the Y clean. Wipe off equipment
after each use. Return all equipment when finished with
it. Take your personal items with you. Remove the
plates from lifting bars when you’re done.
6. Give others a turn. The equipment is here for
everyone to use. Please respect the 30-minute time
limit on cardio equipment if others are waiting.
7. Storing your stuff. Please lock your valuables up
in a locker or check them in at the front desk.

BUILD OUR
COMMUNITY
Would you like to volunteer at the Y?
Youth & Teen Activities
“Everyone can be great because anyone can serve. You don't
have to have a college degree to serve. You don't even have to
make your subject and your verb agree to serve... You only
need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love...”
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Harbor After School
The YMCA of Grays Harbor is always looking for volunteers.
We have opportunities in afterschool programming, youth
sports, swim team, strong kids campaign, facility projects,
Camp Bishop projects, Board of Directors, special events, and
many more…
If you are interested in volunteering contact Franzine Potts at
537-9622 x108.
Childcare
We are looking for volunteers to listen to students read and
help with any difficulties a student may have with decoding
words. This is a great opportunity to help a child improve their
reading skills, gain volunteer experience or earn community
volunteer hours for Young Scholars. Please contact the Child
Care Dept. for more information, 537-9622 x133.
Front Desk
This is a great hands on volunteer opportunity to work with
and engage youth in physical play activities or educational
activities. Sign up to volunteer coach in one of our youth
sports programs or as a hiking trip chaperone. For more
information contact April Heikkila at 537-9622 x106.
This is a great opportunity to mentor youth across Grays
Harbor County. Volunteers are needed for tutoring in
English, math, and science. For more information contact
April Heikkila at 537-9622 x106.
Y-Corps
Y-Corps is a fun new program beginning this January and
provides families with the opportunity to volunteer and work
together. Each month the YMCA will choose a service project
to do as a group out in our community, a way for all of us to
give back and be socially responsible. Y-Corps is also a
great opportunity for students to complete volunteer as well
as World Class Scholars hours. Volunteers will receive a
special Y-Corps shirt for their service. Please email Melissa
at mminato@ghymca.net for further details or to make
suggestions for various projects.
Are you interested in meeting new people? The Front Desk is
looking for volunteers to greet and check in our members. For
