The warm period during August completed the maturity of the grapes. Overall a good to excellent vintage. Drink now-2020. 1997: Cooler than ’96 but August turned out to be fine and warm. This is a wonderful Cabernet vintage. Very good wines with mid-term aging potential. 1998: Cool weather up to August then, very hot. Grapes were in perfect health and unaffected by rain in September. Estates lowered prices making this an excellent value vintage. Drink after the ‘97s but before the ‘96s. Ch. Pichon Lalande Comtesse ’85 Pauillac Ch. Pichon Lalande Comtesse ’89 Pauillac Ch.
