Bordeaux prices may have peaked in
1997 but ‘class distinction’ still
remains the priority. While some
estates suffered from rain in 1997,
recent tastings of the 1998 wines
prove that it is one of the best value

PASSPORT TO BORDEAUX
Recent vintage notes.
1996: Perfect weather and cool summer gave well-balanced grapes. The warm period during August completed the maturity of the grapes.
Overall a good to excellent vintage. Drink now-2020.
1997: Cooler than ’96 but August turned out to be fine and warm. This is a wonderful Cabernet vintage. Very good wines with mid-term aging
potential.
1998: Cool weather up to August then, very hot. Grapes were in perfect health and unaffected by rain in September. Estates lowered prices
making this an excellent value vintage. Drink after the ‘97s but before the ‘96s.
