COME TO TERMS
RESILIENCE
This property is one of the outstanding features of
rubber. It shows the ability of a rubber vulcanizate to
return the energy used to deform it. Low resilience
values correspond to a higher internal friction and to
a larger heat build-up on repetition.
The simplest form of resilience test involves the
dropping of a steel ball into a rubber specimen and
noting the height of rebound. Various rebound
pendulums such as the Schob, Lupke, Dunlop and
Goodyear-Healey are in use.
Our Project Team successfully installed a 9 km pipe
conveyor at the Vallur Thermal Power Station, Chennai,
The team was lead by Mr G.T.M. Jeyadurai - Head
Projects Engineering Team. This is the world's largest
steel cord pipe conveyor in terms of diameter, which is
2400 mm wide and has a capacity to carry 4000 TPH.
The Healey pendulum springs from a
predetermined height and rebounds to a height
determined by the resilience of the rubber specimen.
The Dunlop tripsometer takes the form of an out of
balance metal disc revolving on virtually frictionless
bearing and which acts as a slow moving pendulum.
The test piece is placed against a rigid support so
that it receives a blow at its centre. A circular scale is
provided for measuring the angle of displacement.
The measured quantity is the angle to which the disk
rebounds after the hammer strikes the specimen.
Resilience is lower when rubber is over or under
vulcanized and is also reduced by such fillers as
carbon black. The higher the reinforcing properties
of the black, the lower resilience. Resilience is
influenced by the state of cure and can, therefore, be
used as a test for degree of vulcanization.

JANUARY - SEPTEMBER 2012
Our anniversary is a time to look back at the good times and a time to look ahead to live our dreams together.
“Quitters Never Climb Up”
Success or failure of an organization
depends upon the type of people
who form part of it. We come across
organizations who grow very fast
and make success as a habit.
Innovative and committed people
and programmes are found to be
integral with them. We also see
companies starting with great enthusiasm but
ending up with disastrous results very soon. There
are yet others who neither make progress nor
perish though their death is imminent but slow.
Sanjeev was topper in the interview and he had
impressed quite well to be a successful marketing
engineer though he had justifying explanations to
change his job a third time during 2 years. When he
took up his first sales assignment that too for a
substantially modified product he looked very
promising and enthusiastic. But it was a shock when
he put up his papers immediately after the client
visit. References of some past failures of the product
had put him down totally and he wanted to quit.
Sanjeev type persons can be called "Crab" type.
Crabs on the beaches present very interesting
sights. They come out of their hide outs, rise on
their legs and watch the surroundings well before
they advance forward very fast. But any slight
interruption or a loud noise will make them retreat
faster to the hideouts and will not make their
appearance again for long. They are “ quitters” and
this type in any organization can never be reliable
and dependable. Their initial enthusiasm and
smartness will die down on the sight of even a small
obstacle or challenge. They tend to be
overconfident, egoistic and difficult to get convinced
of their weaknesses. Their interpersonal relations
also may not be healthy. The best thing to do with
this category is to get rid of them.
Sadanand was a production supervisor since long
and had been very regular in reporting as well as
leaving the works quite conscious about the Clock.
Never had been there a complaint on his behavior
patterns. His vision seemed to be limited or rather
restricted as far as growth was concerned. He was
quite happy in continuing what he was doing while
most of his peers had gone up in the ladder. He
by K.J. Joseph - Chairman
could never assume a builder's role with a sense of
belonging to the company. He was of the feeling
that any developmental activity is someone else's
responsibility.
Sadanand can be called " Snail " type and he would
prefer to be a “ camper “. Unless they are put under
effective guidance and monitoring, nothing
substantial can be expected from them. However if
this type can be developed to perform better with
suitable training and attitudinal correction it will be
advisable. In many cases it is found that
environmental contributions are responsible for
such lethargy and casualness as found in their
nature.
Surya Prakash has been a live wire in the H.R.D
dept. where he joined as a trainee after graduation
and duly got elevated to number two position in a
short period. The management found that Surya
Prakash was always a part of the organization and
that he was quite proactive in matters needing
careful attention. His sense of belonging was quite
admirable. His capacity to visualize things far
ahead, department wise, and act in such a way as to
avoid eventual setbacks, helped the company quite
admirably.
Surya Prakash can be called " Ant type " and is
known as “ climbers ”. They will be the nucleus of
any successful organization. As you find the ants
marching ahead, communicating with each other,
in battalions or singles, unmindful of any obstacles fire or water, and capable of regrouping even after
eventual interruptions, this type goes forward
overcoming all hurdles.
This ant type of employees are the ones who will
contribute towards mutual growth and bring laurels
to any organization by their commitment and
sacrifices required in fulfillment of their meticulously
planned operations. They need to be encouraged,
supported and decorated so that the flag of the
organization will be made to fly high always.
To establish efficiency and progress in an
organization the quitters should be dumped, the
campers should be developed and the climbers
should be decorated.

"Always allow the bosses to speak
first"
A Junior Manager, Sr Manager and their Boss
are on the way for a meeting. On their way through
a park, they came across a wonder lamp. They
rubbed the lamp and a ghost appeared. The Ghost
said, "Normally, one is granted three wishes but as
you are three, I will allow one wish each”
So the eager senior manager shouted, I want the first
wish. “ I want to be in Bahamas, on a fast boat and
have no worries” ...Pfuffffff “, and he went away..
Now the Jr manager could not keep quiet and
shouted " I want to be in Florida with beautiful girls,
plenty of food and cocktails." Pfufff, and he also
disappeared.
The boss calmly said " I want these two idiots back
in office after lunch at 1.30 pm "
"Always allow the bosses to speak first"

A successful woman is one who can find such a man.
HEALTH IS WEALTH
HOME MADE CURES
CURE FOR ACIDITY
Acidity, is one of the most common problems
people encounter in their daily life. The home
remedy for acidity is raw grains of rice.
The Process:
1.Take 8 - 10 grains of raw uncooked rice.
2. Swallow it with water before having your
breakfast or eating anything in the morning.
3. Do this for 21 days to see effective results and
continue for 3 months to eliminate acidity from
the body.
The Cure: Reduces acid levels in the body and
makes you feel better by the day.
CURE FOR CHOLESTEROL
Cholesterol problem accompanies with
Hypertension and Heart Problems. This is also one
of the common problems in people who have High
Blood Pressure and Diabetes. The home remedy to
reduce Cholesterol is raw Supari or Betel Nuts.
The Process:
1. Take Raw Supari (Betel Nut that is not flavoured)
and slice them or make pieces of the same.
2. Chew it for about 20 - 40 minutes after
every meal.
3. Spit it out.
The Cure: When you chew Supari, the saliva and
the juice that is generated acts like a Blood Thinner.
Once your blood becomes free flowing, it brings
down the pressure in the blood flow, thereby
reducing Blood Pressure too.
CURE FOR BLOOD PRESSURE
One of the simple home remedy cure for Blood
Pressure is Methi Seeds or Fenugreek Seeds.
The Process:
1. Take a pinch of
raw Fenugreek Seeds,
about 8 - 10 seeds.
2. Swallow it with water before taking your
breakfast, every morning.
The Cure:The seeds of Fenugreek are considered
good to reduce the blood pressure.
CURE FOR DIABETES
There are 2 home remedies for Diabetes. One is
Black Tea and the other is Ladies Fingers or Okra.
BLACK TEA: Due to high medication, the organ
that is worst affected is the Kidney. It has been
observed that Black Tea (tea without milk, sugar or
lemon) is good for the Kidney. Hence, a cup of black
tea every morning is highly advisable.
The Process:
1. Boil water along with the tea leaves (any tea
leaves will do).
2. Drink the concoction without adding milk,
sugar or lemon.
The Cure:
Black Tea will help in enhancing the function of
the kidney, thereby not affecting it more.
LADIES FINGER or OKRA is considered to be a
good home medicine for diabetes.
The Process:
1. Slit the ladies finger into 2 halves vertically and
soak it in water overnight.
2. The next morning, remove the ladies fingers
and drink the water, before eating your breakfast.
The Cure:
After the ladies fingers are soaked overnight in the
water, you can observe that the water becomes
sticky in the morning. This sticky water is
considered to be good for people who suffer from
Diabetes.
BRAIN DAMAGING HABITS
1.People who do not take breakfast are going to
have a lower blood sugar level. This leads to an
insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing
brain degeneration.
2 . Overeating causes hardening of the brain
arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.
3. Smoking causes multiple brain shrinkage and
may lead to Alzheimer disease.
4.Consumption of too much sugar will interrupt the
absorption of proteins and nutrients causing
malnutrition and may interfere with brain
development.
5.The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our
body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of
oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in
brain efficiency.
6. Sleep allows our brain to rest. Long term
deprivation of sleep will accelerate the death of brain
cells.

JULY - DECEMBER 2011
Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes.

Family Additions
7. Sleeping with the head covered increases the
concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease
concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain
damaging effects.
8. Working your brain during illness or studying with
sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of
the brain as well as damage the brain.
9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts. Thinking is the
best way to train our brain, lacking in brain
stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.
