Russian Children's Book Festival comes to England
3–10 March London/Cambridge
Next week London will host its very first Russian Children’s Book Festival. Introducing
some of Russia’s most exciting contemporary children’s authors and literature, the
programme features stimulating and informative discussions among authors,
publishers, translators and illustrators. In addition, there will be creative-writing and
translation workshops, with the authors meeting their young readers. The Festival is
aimed at children’s book publishers, translators, illustrators and professionals
interested in the mutual influences between Russian and British children's stories and
promoting Russian children’s literature in the UK.
A key event of the week is the presentation of the brand new English translation of
Serge Sedoff’s ​
Heracles' 12 Great Labours​
, recently published by St James’s Publishing.
Children and adults will have the opportunity throughout the week to meet the author
and discuss what prompted him to delve into Classical Greek Mythology. Other leading
lights of Russian children’s literature - Marina Boroditskaya (renowned author and
translator of English, American and French poetry), and Marina Moskvina, author of ​
My
Dog Likes Jazz ​
– will be meeting with school children at their schools – notably Fox
School and the Kensington Academy - young aspiring writers at the Chelsea Young
Writers Club - sharing their insights on creative writing and translation.
On Tuesday 3 March the prestigious House of Illustration will host British and Russian
experts to discuss the mutual influences between Russia and Britain children’s books,
in terms of both theme and illustration.
The Russian Children’s Book Festival is sponsored by the Institute of Translation in
Moscow and St James’s Publishing, London. The Festival organisers would also like to
