Helix has contracted with Clean Gulf Associates (CGA), a
nonprofit association, to allow the HFRS to be named in the
permit applications of CGA producer members as a spill
response resource, in exchange for a retainer fee paid by
CGA to Helix. CGA in turn collects fees from its members who
are using the HFRS in their permit applications.
Helix enters into separate utilization agreements with these
CGA member companies which specify the asset day rates,
should the HFRS system be deployed.

A Pre-Staged Response to Deepwater Oil and Gas Spills,
Based on Proven Assets At Work in the Gulf of Mexico
Non-DP Storage Tanker
At full production capacity,
the Helix HFRS can capture and process
up to 55,000 BOPD, 70,000 BLPD and 95 MMSCFD
at 10,000 psi, in water depths to 8,000 feet.

Helix Energy Solutions played a key role in the Macondo
hydrocarbon spill response, providing assets and offshore
teams to assist in the completion of containment efforts.
Helix's Q4000 multipurpose semisubmersible vessel and
the Helix Producer I floating production unit each played
prominent roles in the effort.

Benefits of the Helix HFRS include:
Vessels and crews currently operating in the Gulf.
The Helix Producer I and Q4000 operate in the Gulf of
Mexico full time, with experienced crews. Calling off
working vessels is operationally preferable to a
modular system that would take longer to deploy and
go untested for extended periods.
Subsea components built and staged in advance.
Key subsea systems to transport hydrocarbons to the
surface for capture and disposal are kept in inventory
at Helix's Gulf of Mexico spoolbase, where they are
maintained and available for deployment at a
moment's notice.

Wellhead or Tree
Based on the lessons learned and technologies developed
for the Macondo spill response, Helix has developed its
Fast Response Containment System (HFRS) for future
spills. The system uses proven methodologies to provide
spill response capacity.
