July 2 We’re getting wheels! The Dattco Bus Company is generously providing us with the use of a Mon. July 4 bus and a driver for the summer. Library staff will be making visits to the Mt. Pleasant Independence Day neighborhood on Mondays, 1 pm - 2:30 pm and Oval Grove on Tuesdays, 10 am -11:30 am starting July 11. Outreach is a big part of what we do; be it visiting schools, making presentations to groups, or delivering to the homebound. Libraries connect with the community taking the opportunity to spread the library word. On a less positive note, the CT State Library has notified us there will be changes to their library delivery system, DeliverIT CT, because of budget cuts and high volume. This is how we get books from other libraries in response to user’s requests. As of July 1, DeliverIT will no longer transport library items which are new (items owned 6 months or less). Library users cannot place more than 5 simultaneous holds on titles not owned by their library. Libraries are all about sharing and in our consortium, Library Connection, we agreed to share our collections with each other. By doing so we were able to fill our users’ needs faster and stretch our budgets further. At this time, we need to comply with these standards or we will be removed from the delivery system. You can still checkout items at another library, return them here and DeliverIT will return it to the owning library. Pat Rutkowski, Director A d u l t P r o g r a m s Yoga With Rosemary Rorrio Wed. Page 4 NBPL News F r i e n d s o f N B P L Summer at the library began with the annual Summer Reading Bash on the front lawn and the Friends were there giving out free books to kids who signed up for the Summer Reading Program. We love this event. It is so much fun watching the kids pick out a book of their own and we were delighted to give away 70 beautiful children's books. Summer is the time when the Friends begin to plan for the year ahead. Upcoming events are the annual textbook sale held August 22 through September 10 and our big fall book sale October 12 through October 15. More details about these events will be in the August newsletter. At the Every Day Book Sale, featured categories for July are Books for the Beach and Travel. The author of the month is Tom Clancy.
