begin construction this

is a great addition to the
community and especially to this location," said

site for Mt. Juliet," Peterson said. The Fourteen Foods representative continued, "We're
excited to get the project under construction
and to serve ice-cream.

Former softball coach
and teacher of Wilson
Central High School, Michael Shepard, gave a
plea of being not guilty
through his newly appointed attorney to accused charges in Wilson
County Criminal Court
on Friday, July 22nd.
Shepard hired attorney, Adam Parrish, to assist in the case as Shepard's defense attorney.
The former coach &
teacher is charged with
two counts of statutory
rape by an authority figure, according to authorities after a prolonged investigation.
Shepard
posted
a
$25,000 bail after being
arrested at his home,
prior to hiring his newly
appointed attorney.
His next date in Criminal Court at the Wilson
County Courthouse will
be on Sept. 12.
As the brand new
school year quickly approached, Wilson Central High School administration had limited
time to find a qualified
candidate to appoint as
interim softball coach for
the 2016-2017 school
year.
Principal, Travis Mayfield, discussed options
and reviewed candidates
with staff to come to a
conclusion of a qualified,
non-facility parent who
volunteered to step up
and fill the position for
the season.
Shawn Smith will be
the temporary coach in
Spring of 2017 when
softball swings into season.
Smith told Wilson
Central Principal, Travis
Mayfield, that he only
wanted to fill this position for one year.

employees
found the following items
inside of the discovered
bag: Dog-tag, driver's license, and family photos.
On the dog-tag was
inscribed, Sgt. Asbury
Freddie Hawn, the name
of a local fallen soldier of
who was killed in Iraq by
a roadside bomb in 2005.
A memorial was dedicated to Sgt. Hawn, on
State Route 840, where
many Tennessean's recognize the part of the
highway that his name is
honored with.
The items left at
Goodwill were in his wallet the day he died.

The search led Hubanks to social media

It was on Facebook

a family had to split and he was not allowed to go to either new
home. The next home Forrest was happy until he had to share
his toys then he realized he liked to be the only one who got
attention. Forrest would be a wonderful dog for a family looking
for that Teddy Bear and loyal partner for life. He is neutered,
vaccinated and ready to lay his head in someone’s lap forever!!
His adoption fee is $75.00, call (615-773-5533), email (beadlestanya@gmail.com) or Facebook us to meet Forrest.

REFLECTIONS FROM AN OLD FRIEND
Kenny Martin
City Manager
Mt. Juliet
Every minute of every
day our precious world
and community loses
another precious person.
These are the precious
people that have passed
away and went on to a
better place. The precious memories we’ll carry and cherish forever.
The friendships, laughs,
smiling faces, personal
belongings and even the
scent of the person will
live forever in our hearts
and minds.
Our community loses a precious someone
everyday. Its part of life,
but it should also remind us of the importance of living each and
every day to the very fullest and to the very best
of our ability. Tomorrow
is not promised to anyone. That’s why we must
take time to smell the
roses, enjoy fellowshipping with our family and
friends, call on a relative
or visit a loved one and
to always be kind to one
another. There are thousands of human beings
going through tough
times this very moment.
Lives and families are
being changed every
minute of everyday.
It breaks my heart every time I see a family
FAITH & MESSAGE
The Miracle of Restoration
Four miracles.
Four horrific conditions.
Four stories of restoration.
Every one a most unlikely recipient of God’s
grace.
Consider. The leper.
The most dreaded disease of the 1st Century.
Stigma. Condescending
stares. Alone-ness. Completely outcast from society. Incurable. Untouchable. But Jesus touched
him. And in an instant…
no longer a leper! Restored. (Matthew 8:2¬-3)
Consider. The centurion’s servant. A Roman!
And a soldier at that. A
powerful symbol of oppression. But he cared
about his servant, who
was at home, paralyzed.
Tormented. A Jew would
not be likely to extend
help to a Roman authority figure. But Jesus did.
Because the centurion
had a level of faith to believe that Jesus could,
Jesus did. He spoke the
ing the service. Honorary Pallbearers: Wilson
County Sheriff’s Department and the Mt. Juliet
Police Dept. In lieu of
flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place,
Memphis TN 38105).
Caleb is survived by
his parents Kinnie and
Mike Long, siblings Kelly,
Devin, and Austin Long,
grandmothers Barbara
Hart and Bonnie Baynes,
extended family and
friends, and the Wilson
County Sheriff’s Department and the Mt. Juliet
Police Department. He
is preceded in death by
grandfathers
Richard
Hart and Jessie Baynes.

Gone too Soon
going through the tragic
loss of a family member
or friend. Seeing these
tragic losses reminds me
of the true fragileness of
life. It also encourages
me and reminds me to
not take life for granted. We have the best of
citizens and I personally
consider the residents of
Mt. Juliet one big family. As you say your next
prayer, please pray for
the families that are going through tough times
after losing a loved one
or friend.
As we all know, life is
much too short to waste
one single minute of it.
Make sure you tell your
family and friends how
much you love them
each and every day.
The Miracle of Restoration
word. And in an instant…
no longer paralyzed! Restored. (Matthew 8:5-13)
Consider.
Peter’s
mother-in-law. A woman!
In a culture and time that
did not hold women in
high regard. She was confined to bed with a high
fever. Jesus touched her.
And in an instant…98.6!
Feeling well enough to
prepare dinner for her
guests. Restored. (Matthew 8:14-15)
Consider. Two men
possessed by demons.
Fierce. Out of control.
Dangerous. Scary stuff!
So scary that neighbors
who walked near the
graveyard where the men
lived always made an
abrupt detour to avoid
them. Another word from
Jesus. And in an instant…demons flee. Men
delivered. Restored. (Matthew 8:28-33)
The common threads
in these four stories?
Four miracles. Four horrific conditions cured.
Four stories of restoration. And every one a
most unlikely recipient
of God’s grace. The outcasts. The unpopular.
The feared. But Jesus
loved and delivered. And
the response of the people? They rejected Jesus.
They asked Him to move
on down the road. (Matthew 8:34)
All these years later,
Jesus still loves and delivers the least likely…
you and me. How will we
respond? I want to respond the way the leper
responded. Even though
Jesus instructed him to
tell no one, he told ev-
eryone! He couldn’t help
himself. Restoration does
that! “I once was lost,
but now I’m found. Was
blind, but now I see.”

2016 around 10:00 a.m.,
Elliott was summoned to
Walmart, located at 300
Pleasant Grove Road, to
assist an elderly man
who was unresponsive in
the grocery.
Elliott arrived on the
scene within two minutes of dispatch, and he
noticed a store employee
attempting CPR on the
patient. Once the employee saw Elliott, the
employee stopped CPR.
Elliott then took over immediately and resumed
CPR on the man until
medics arrived. Personnel from Wilson County
Emergency Management
Agency (WEMA) and Mt.
rived on the scene and
relieved Elliott of his efforts to save the man’s
life. Eventually, the man
was revived by medics
and transported to a
hospital.
“Because of the quick
response by Officer Elliott, and the use of
training provided to our
officers, the man’s life
was saved,” stated Chief
James Hambrick. “This
is another example that
Mt. Juliet’s police officers are here to serve,
in whatever capacity,
to ensure the ultimate
well-being of our citizens
and visitors.”

EDUCATION-THE
RIGHT
OF
EVERY
CHILD Every child can
learn. Children with disabilities are--first and
foremost--children.
Therefore, they are entitled to the benefits and
rights the law gives children, and local government and school districts
in Tennessee will make
the same effort for children with disabilities
as for children without
disabilities. Tennessee’s
Individuals and Disability Education Act makes
certain special provisions
for children with disabilities. The State must provide free public education
each and every child age
3-21 who has disability.
All local public education
systems are to maintain
a program to locate and
identify at the earliest
possible age all children
who need services. Parents must be involved
in decisions concerning
their children. All Tennessee School systems
must evaluate the educational needs of students
with disabilities at least
once a year. School systems must design programs of public education services sufficient to
meet the needs of children with disabilities and
work with parents to determine the needs of their
children. Schools must
keep parents informed of
their children’s progress.
Education should be provided in as normal a setting as possible, as close
to home as possible. Public school systems shall
provide or secure the regular and special education needed for children
to benefit from a free public education appropriate
to their needs. They must
secure the informed consent of parents or guardians for all placement or
changes of placement
of children with disabilities. Due process for
children with disabilities
and their parents entitles
them to : the right to an
important hearing, and
the right to appeal decisions. The Wilson County Public School System
provides appropriate educational programs for
children with disabilities
in Wilson County. If you
have a child with a disability between the ages
of three and twenty-one
who needs a special program, contact the Special
Education Office, 351

of life-saving transplant procedure
Photo courtesy of Metro Creative Connection
Mt. Juliet resident,
Whitney Jackson, was
diagnosed with Cystic
Fibrosis when she was
born in 1993.
Whitney is the daughter of Sandi Camacho.
Sandi and family have
been struggling with how
to afford such an expensive procedure in a difficult time as this.
The doctors at Vanderbilt University, downtown Nashville, have recommended a life-saving
double lung transplant.
Mt. Juliet citizens
are raising funds for
The Children's Organ
Transplant Association
(COTA), a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds
for
transplant-related
expenses, in honor of
transplant patients like
Whitney.
An estimated $50,000
is being raised by the Mt.
Juliet community.
With the cost of transplants often exceeding
families budgets, many
are unable to afford such
a procedure.
Volunteers are needed
to assist with fundraising
activities that will help
with transplant-related
expenses.
Individuals
and groups interested
in more information can
