We just completed the second nine week benchmarks and I am happy to report our students have made significant gains. As we begin second semester, I would like to encourage all parents to take more of an active role on checking on their children’s homework and class activities. We are gearing up for the first Standards of Learning test which is the 08 Writing and Multiple Choice test in March. We want all our students to understand the importance of passing the SOL’s. Please have a conversation with your child everyday about academics. I would also like to invite all parents to our Black History program scheduled for February 27th at 6:00. Please come out for a fun filled educational program. As always, thank you for all the support you give us in educating your child and in molding them to be respectful, responsible, and ready to learn students. Que rápido paso el primer semestre. She is a quick learner and is always eager to learn. 7TH GRADE Sha’Reese Johnson Sherry’ is respectful, polite, cooperative, and a team player. Her goal is to become a doctor. 8TH GRADE Jessica Ramirez As a scholar since the 6th grade Jessica has demonstrated all the qualities of a model Boushall student. The eighth grade team is proud of Miss Ramirez. 8TH GRADE Samantha Tate Samantha’s very polite , cooperative respectful and always cheerful. She always treats you with a smile. She is a quick learner and is eager to learn new things. Students at Boushall are Respectful, Responsible & Ready to Learn and our teachers are Caring, Committed and Creative. PAGE 2 BOUSHALL CIVIC STUDENTS ATTEND PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION Estudiantes de la clase de cívica atendieron la inauguracion presidencial Three of our best 8th grade Eagles; Jessica Ramirez, Akiera Jones, Bryan Ruano traveled with Ms. Billet to Washington DC to experience first hand the second inauguration ceremony for our President Barrack Obama. Tres de nuestros mejores estudiantes de 8vo, Jessica Ramirez, Akeira Jones, Bryan Ruano viajaron a Washington, DC. At the train station, we met up with our superintendent Dr. Yvonne Brandon Look who we ran into on our way to Capitol Hill, Senator Tim Kaine and Anne Holton! Almost there, even the bitter cold couldn’t dampen our excitement, Could one of these Boushall students be the first African American female or Hispanic President? ¿Podrá uno de estos estudiante ser el el primer presidente hispano o presidenta hispana o de raza negra? We were interviewed by the Times Dispatch and mentioned in a news article about the event. At Capitol Hill we visited the office of Virginia Representative Eric Cantor and his warm staff. We will never forget this experience. Thank you Dr. Beatty, Ms. Billet and everybody else who made this memorable day possible. BOUSHALL MUSICIANS SELECTED TO THE RICHMOND ALL CITY MS BAND Musicians from all Richmond Middle Schools auditioned to play in the Richmond City Middle School band, We are proud to announced our Boushall representatives 8th grade Jessica Ramirez,1st chair flute Chablise Hammie, 6th chair flute Teniqua Davis, 1st chair clarinet Cherish Heckstall, 2nd chair clarinet Afi Messan 7th chair clarinet Miguel Hernandez, 9th chair trumpet 7th grade Laquandre Page, 7th chair clarinet 6th grade Chantel Hernandez, 8th chair flute Jose Ramirez 9th chair trumpet We all look forward to seeing them perform with the Richmond City Middle School band in April. DUPONT WRITING CONTEST WINNERS BOUSHALL CORE VALUES WISDOM Our students participated in DuPont’s MLK Day Essay Contest this year. Two of our students were selected as winners. Congratulations Jessica Ramirez and Akiera Jones!!! We look forward to having them share their essays with the Boushall family during our Black History Month Program later this month. COURAGE JUSTICE COMPASSION INTEGRITY Job Shadowing Day Eighth graders shadowed workers and professionals from the Department of Corrections. Estu- PAGE 3 CISR and the Guidance Department have launched the Eagle Ambassadors program to assist our 8th graders with educational endeavors and career exploration. We host a Lunch & Learn Speaker’s Bureau each month with community partners who will speak on their educational paths and career goals. It is an awesome way to share nuggets of wisdom with the students regarding the career choices and to help them broaden their horizons. Kudos to Ms. Harris-Lipford, Ms. Martin (both from the AG’s office), and Ms. Harris (from CIS) for helping us to have an awesome program launch!! RPS District History Fair Winners Congratulations to our many Richmond Public School District History Fair winners. Chadr Smith and Diego McFail, pictured below, from Mr. Bowser’s 7th grade history class, won first and second place respectively. From Ms. Billets 8th grade Civics class, Masake Fofana won 1st place. We are proud of the efforts and achievements of these students. Girls for a Change / Camp Diva Richmond Raiders are helping our boys with 100 Black Men of Greater Richmond Project IMPACT. Congratulations to Coach It has been a busy year and we are only half way Carter, Coach Lewis and Coach Hunter and the 2012/2013 done!! BOUSHALL SOCCER TEAM TRYOUTS Soccer tryouts are presently being held and dozens of students have already been selected. See Couch Roe and Couch Sederbaum for more information. Boushall Boys' Basketball Team! The Boushall family is very proud of the team's representation of our school. On February 12, 2013, the team won the Richmond City Middle School Basketball Championship at George Wythe High school against Martin Luther King Middle School, after working their way through an outstanding season. Sean Haskins was the tournament MVP. The Boushall Boys basketball players include Sean Haskins, Eyahlarmar Davis, Eugene Williams, Rahlee Perry and Qyan’te Parham the team starters and Cequan Francis, Eddie Davis, Tiquan Brown, Jarec Brown, Ja’Quis Sowell, Maurice Laster and Montrell Penn.
