British Virgin Islands: June 1-10, 2012 - Fly with us to the British Virgin Islands, then sail aboard our large catamarans for a week of island hopping and fun! Explore San Diego Daysail - Join us for a fun day exploring San Diego Bay on the water. The Bay has much to offer the adventurous boater; on this day sail we will sail under the Coronado Bridge, explore the seldom seen South Bay, sail past the fabulous Lowe’s Resort, locate guest slips, overnight anchorages and moorings, plus learn about the navigation hazards in the area. 9am-5pm, $75. San Diego: Apr 7, May 6, June 10. Catalina Island Spring Flotilla, May 19-20 - Join this fun weekend flotilla to Two Harbors, including a BBQ beach party on Saturday night. We shove off from all harbors Saturday at 10am. Saturday evening mingle with other Marina Sailing members at the beach party!! Bring your own meat to BBQ, side dishes and Mai Tai’s complementary! Sunday morning head over to the famous brunch on the Harbor Reef‘s deck. Join the flotilla by reserving a boat from your local harbor. We are offering several crewing position options: Just for the fun of it boat, for the more competitive sailor we offer crewing positions on the race boats, and for those of you that want multi hull we are offering an ASA 104 & 114 Catamaran certification class. Channel Islands Adventure Sail to Santa Cruz Island - If you haven’t had the chance to visit Santa Cruz Island, this is a terrific opportunity to experience this gorgeous island. Santa Cruz’s rugged coastline and dramatic cliffs are lined with hundreds of unique and unspoiled anchorages. On this three day adventure, we will anchor in Pelican Bay and Smuggler’s Cove and explore the natural beauty of these anchorages. In the galley is a refrigerator/freezer, microwave/ convection oven, stove and wine cellar. She has two private cabins and sleeps 6 down below. ASA 104: Bareboat Chartering ASA Certifications and Special Classes These two and three day classes cover advanced boating skills essential to overnight cruising, and qualifies you to charter boats at great sailing locations worldwide. Topics include boat systems, navigation, anchoring, mooring, cruising techniques, and more. All two-day courses start Friday at 7pm, and return home Sunday at 5pm, $395. Three-day courses are $495 and start at 9am. Ensenada four-day is $895 (Must bring Passport). Provisions and ASA test fees are included. Marina del Rey: Apr 14; Channel Islands: May13; Redondo Beach: June 10 ASA 118 Docking Endorsement - To dock competently is a skill learned through an understanding of the forces that act on a boat and how to control them. This one day course teaches basic theory and hands-on techniques - with a lot of docking practice. 10am-4pm, $125.00. Marina del Rey: May 6, June 23 Powerboat Lesson in Long Beach - Class will be held on the Sea Ray 39 Express aft cockpit yacht. You will learn how to maneuver with twin engines, put the boat on a plane using trim tabs, dock, and pull up to a mooring ball. We’ll also go over reading the GPS chart plotter at high speed, and learn about the mechanical and electrical systems, $125. 10am to 4pm. Long Beach: May 20 page 2 Private Powerboat Lessons - We offer private powerboat lessons in our Marina del Rey, Long Beach, Redondo Beach, and Newport Beach fleets. Contact us to set up private instruction. ASA 104 & 114: Bareboat &Catamaran In addition to the ASA 104 material, this course includes the ASA Cruising Catamaran Certification. Students will sail aboard the Mahe 36 twin engine catamaran from Long Beach to Catalina. Prerequisites include ASA 101 and 103. $475 per person for a 2-day class, $575 for 3-day class. Long Beach: April 6-8 (3-day Easter flotilla), April 27-29 (Spring Flotilla), May 18-20, June 15-17 ASA 114: One Day Multi-hull Class - Learn the ins and outs of sailing and handling these unique sailboats. We’ll cover powering, docking, setting and trimming sail, and all the particulars of catamaran sailing. This one day course is taught onboard our Gemini104M catamaran in Long Beach, and the super fast Corsair31 trimaran in San Diego. Prerequisites include ASA 101,103 and 104. Course includes testing materials, $195 per person. Long Beach: April 1, June 9; San Diego: May 12, June 16 GPS/Radar/Marine Electronics Class - Modern electronics are great as long as you know how to use them. The trend is to overlay radar images on top of electronic charts and combine everything into one unit with full color graphics, which can sometimes be confusing. This handson course covers step-by-step procedures to learn to plot GPS waypoints, compute various courses, set anchor watches, tune and read radar, and more. 1pm-4pm, $65. Channel Islands: Apr 22; Redondo: May 6; Marina del Rey: June 16; Long Beach: June 24; San Diego: May 27 ASA 107: Celestial Navigation - Your iPad’s battery just died and your GPS was doused by a rogue wave. Now what? With celestial navigation you will always know where you are in any part of the ocean and any season. This fun 4-night course includes all navigation techniques using the sun, moon, stars, planets, and will prepare you for the ASA107 exam. The fourth night includes a sail. Larry Mumford, instructor. The course material is available for order through any office, $125 Emergency Procedures at Sea - In this class we offer in depth information about plumbing, engine, galley, and head functions, as well as emergency procedures, emergency tiller operation, how to sail without a rudder using only sails, and more, 1pm to 5pm $75. Marina del Rey: Apr 29; Redondo Beach: May 19; Channel Islands: Jun 10 Basic Diesel Class - In this beginning class you will learn how a diesel engine operates and how to properly maintain a marine engine. We will cover troubleshooting, belts, filters, coolant, electrical components, and oil and filter change. 1pm-5pm, $65. Redondo Beach: April 21; Channel Islands: May 6; Long Beach: June 3; San Diego: June 17 Free Marlinspike Class - Learn to tie a variety of useful knots, splice lines, and make decorative turk’s head braids. Class is offered free to all members, 2-5pm. Redondo Beach: April 28; Long Beach: May 5; San Diego: May 26; Marina del Rey: June 3 BBQ Daysail in Long Beach Harbor Join us for fun and informative daysail with an experienced sailor. We’ll sail around Long Beach Harbor and learn general navigation tips and local knowledge of the harbor. Then enjoy a sail along the beautiful coastline, spot a whale, watch dolphin swim in the bow wake, and finally head back for a great BBQ onboard at anchor. BBQ hamburgers and hotdogs included. Long Beach: Apr 21, May 27, June 30 Catalina Island Day Sail Prep for ASA 104 - Join Captain Al for a fun hands on daysail to prepare you for the ASA 104 Bareboat Chartering Certification and trips to Catalina Island. Practice anchoring, use of VHF, valuable weather and tide information, sailing courtesies and customs, Catalina coves, and things to see. 10am – 4pm, $75 per person. Newport Beach: June 2 Mother’s Day Daysail on the Prout 50 Show your appreciation to Mom with a unique Mother’s Day daysail on our magnificent Prout 50 Catamaran. This is the largest event in Long Beach with attendance exceeding 200k, and is the longest running “street race” in North America. It is particularly noted for its hairpin turn followed by a long front straightaway running the length of Shoreline Drive - right past our docks at Shoreline Village! Also featured are great concerts and celebrity races. Saturday, racers practice and the celebrity race begins at 11:40 am. On Sunday, the Grand Prix race begins at 1pm. Enjoy the beautiful harbor and experience great hiking, kayaking and the festivities on shore. Join our party Saturday on the host boat with free Mai Tais. Sunday enjoy a scrumptious Easter brunch at the Harbor Reef Restaurant. The flotilla shoves off from all harbors at 10am on Friday. Get a crew together for your own team or join an existing one. We have races once or twice a month at each harbor or Marina Sailing location. Also, the schedule includes an exciting two-day race to Catalina Island and back. Start a team or join as crew by contacting any Marina Sailing office. The 2012 Marina Cup - The races are off to another fast start, and once again, there has been some very exciting contests. Both races in the Catalina weekend series saw final differences of about 90 seconds after over 4 hours of racing! During the Redondo Beach race we had three boats cross the finish line Marina cup race schedule within 85 seconds of each other. Ensenada Yacht Race - April 27 to April 30 For 63 years seasoned pros and first-timers have joined together for a fun-filled weekend of partying, racing, and more partying. This is one of those races you just don’t want to miss! This 125 mile overnight race provides a perfect mix of fun and adventure. Whether you are a first-time racer or an experienced pro, you will be competing with hundreds of boats for one of 50 race category trophies. This is also a fun way to earn your ASA 104/106 certification! The ASA class is $895.00 for four days. Testing fees and provisions are included. Call the Long Beach office to sign up. Sail Trim Seminar - Sail trim is an acquired art that is simple to learn when it is presented in a concise and logical manner. This all-day seminar takes the guess work out of trimming, and includes both the Sail Trim User’s Guide and a laminated quick-reference chart; 3-hours in the classroom, break for lunch, then 3 hours on the water. 9am - 5pm, $150. Newport Beach: May 27 Opening Day Celebration in Two Harbors, June 29 & 30th - Charter a boat and enjoy the festivities onshore to help kick off the summer sailing season! There will be a happy hour with free hors d’oeuvres, music, booths from the boating community, a raffle drawing, and an opportunity to mingle with other boaters. You will also get to experience the beauty of Two Harbors, its quaint town, and fun outdoor activities. Do not miss this fun filled weekend! Racing Clinic - Join us for the Marina Cup racing series aboard one of our race boats. A team of seasoned racers will guide you through the positions and race tactics as you experience the excitement of sailboat racing. You will split the cost of the charter among the crew. Marina del Rey: April 14 ; Newport Beach: May 5; Long Beach: May 19-20; Marina del Rey: June 9; Channel Islands: June 23 Spinnaker Class - Experience flying a full-size spinnaker on the Green Dragon 2 in Marina del Rey. You will learn how to properly set up, hoist, adjust the spinnaker pole, trim the sheets, and douse the spinnaker. Or just go along for the thrill of the ride! 11am- 4pm, $125. Marina del Rey: June 30 Fourth of July Fireworks - Catch the best view of the fireworks in your local harbor or on Catalina Island and celebrate the 4th close to the action. Enjoy a BBQ onboard, then watch the show with friends and family! Fireworks start at 9pm, reserve your favorite boat! Channel Islands Harbor: Drinks at sundown to celebrate the fireworks with a Pot Luck Party at the office at 7pm. Long Beach: See the amazing show from the Queen Mary and festivities around the harbor. Redondo Beach: Patriotic music playing on the pier to the fireworks show. Marina del Rey: See the show from the harbor, or view it from Burton Chase Park. San Diego: Lots of festivities around the harbor.
