It is a fairytale B & B situated just down the creek from Monet's water lily pond. Gerard and Stephanie are the proprietors. It is very Normandy and very French. You will feel like you are living in an impressionist painting. After lunch and a brief orientation we will do a walk through of Monet's Gardens and water lily pond with the famous Japanese bridge. Day 2 A day in Giverny. After morning coffee we go paint in Monet's Gardens! Then it's off to the Ancien Hotel Baudy (say bow-di). It is a must stop for anyone making a pilgrimage to visit Monet's life. It is where many famous impressionist painters stayed when visiting Monet. We will be painting in the gardens behind the Baudy just like impressionist painters have been doing for a hundred years. Day 3 A day in Les Andelys. We will be traveling north up the Seine river valley to a little medieval village called Les Andelys. It was a favorite village of the impressionists to paint and still is today. The white chalk cliffs and the imposing King Richard's Castle looming above the town make it one of the most picturesque villages in Normandy. Day 4 Monet's bateau. The day will be spent painting on a replica of Monet's floating studio. Captain Bertrand Vautibault built the bateau (boat) for artists to paint in just like Monet did. He and his wife Danielle will be our hosts. They will serve tea for a meet and greet at their house where Monet's bateau is moored. It is also the house where Pierre Bonnard (a famous impressionist painter) lived. Day 5 Vernon and La Roche Guyon. We go to a real Normandy outdoor market in Vernon. It's like going back in time. There are two markets every week where everybody goes to get their groceries. In the afternoon we head to La Roche Guyon. This was another favorite of the impressionists. There is a massive chateau tucked into the cliffs of the Seine river bank. Rommel made his headquarters in this chateau during WW II. Day 6 Auvers-sur-Oise. We go to what Leoma lovingly refers to as Van Gogh-ville. Here Van Gogh spent the last seventy days of his life. We will visit the Auberge Ravoux Inn where he stayed. During this time Van Gogh painted eighty of his masterpieces. The village has set up replicas of his paintings where he actually painted them. We will visit the sites of some of his more well known paintings. Day 7 Lavacourt. In the morning we will head to Lavacourt, another picturesque village on the banks of the Seine. And another favorite of the impressionists. Monet lived here for a short time before he moved to Giverny. OPTIONAL DAYS…. Art by Leoma Lovegrove / Giverny Collection Trip insurance is highly recommended and health insurance is mandatory Day 8 Saturday, May 23 Paris day trip. Get up for early morning train to Paris to visit impressionist museums. We go to the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. This is the museum dedicated to French impressionism. It has the largest collection of impressionist paintings in the world including originals from all the major impressionist painters. Then we walk to Musee de l'Orangerie which houses eight huge water lily panels on canvas that Monet donated to France before he died. Then a special treat. We go to the Parisian apartment of one of Leoma's fans for a Champagne send off. We return to Giverny late evening. Day 9 Sunday, May 24 Sadly, depart for home.
