Integral Stabilisers (STB)
BHA PRODUCTS Integral Stabilisers (STB) The Integral Stabiliser is designed with a 3 blade configuration, which minimises downhole torque and reduces the damage to the borehole and enables maximum circulation via the junk slots between the blades. The Integral Stabiliser is designed to perform in nearly every type of formation ranging from wet sticky formations to the hard and abrasive formations. The hard facing which is used consists of HF3000 and HF5000 depending on the application. Diamond Impregnated inserts is also used in conjunction with HF3000 inserts on the leading and trailing edges of the blades. By incorporating these inserts this will enhance the longevity of the gauge in hard abrasive formations. Applications Benefits Sticky to hard and abrasive formations. Stabiliser in the size range of 8” and above will have a 15° chamfer included into the leading and trailing edges of the blades. This 15° chamfer of the first 2” of the crown length of the leading and trailing edges allows for borehole irregularities and takes into account the maximum flex that drill collars experience in directional drilling operations. This more effectively distributes the side loading applied to the stabiliser hard facing during operation. Thus reducing wear and extending the life, minimising the need to redress the stabiliser. BHA PRODUCTS Integral Stabilisers (STB) Design Features Standard design for sizes up to < 8”, 15° Leading edge design for sizes 8” >, Watermelon design Watermelon design In the circumstance where the Stabiliser is being used in a high loading situation the Stabiliser can be manufactured as a Watermelon design by increasing the angle of the leading edges of the crown length. These are designed and manufactured at the client’s request. This will give a greater depth of carbide coverage – ideal for high deviation drilling in abrasive formations and also geothermal formations. HF3000 for sizes 8”- 26” Tungsten carbide inserts set in a powder spray deposit ideal for abrasive formations. 97% bonding guaranteed. Recommended for non-magnetic stabilisers. HF2000 for sizes <8” HF5000 for sizes 26” - 36” This oxy-acetylene process applies tough molten carbide particles of varying sizes held in a nickel-chrome matrix which provides excellent bonding properties and greater surface wear characteristics are achieved. Surface hardness levels over 40 H.R.C. Ideal for GEOTHERMAL applications over 350°c. HF6000 - Diamond Insert Techology The Diamond Impregnated material which Paradigm supplies are single sourced from the leading European manufacturer. Other lower cost inserts have been empirically proved to have low diamond content, high levels of graphitisation from poor heat control in manufacture and overall much lower resistance to wear than the Paradigm inserts. HF3000 for sizes 8”- 26” Paradigm’s supplier is using premium quality diamond, meaning crystalline material (cubo-octahedral shape) with low level of impurities leading to high thermal stability characterised by high friability resistance. The manufacturers of the Paradigm inserts use 25 % by volume of diamond concentration based on long term experience in this field. HF5000 for sizes 26” - 36” The diamonds are individually pelletised; therefore they are evenly distributed in the insert, meaning the wear is shared equally stone by stone ensuring even wear. The manufacturing process of the inserts is under a controlled atmosphere with the inserts sealed in molten glass then compressed in the autoclave using argon gas as the compressive medium. The glass preventing the Argon from permeating the inserts ensuring maximum density and consistency. HF6000 - Diamond Insert Techology www.paradigm.eu ©2013 Paradigm Drilling Services Ltd. Synthetic diamond is a metastable product which reverts back to graphite state with increasing temperature and in the presence of Oxygen or catalyst agents such as Fe, Co or Ni. The sintering process is made by using an iso-static press reaching a fully compacted condition (zero porosity) material without any permanent stress, due to the three dimensional shrinkage methods. This means maximum retention of the diamonds in the insert when exposed to abrasive conditions in the field. Last but not least the Paradigm inserts use a hard binder matrix, based mainly on tungsten carbide, which maintains a final hardness level 85 HRA as a minimum. N.B.
