Welcome
Where the locals are friendly . . .
If you’re looking for a holiday full of wonder with magnificent landscapes,
pristine beaches and nature in all its glory, both in the water and on dry land,
then look no further than Exmouth, Western Australia.
Ideally positioned, a holiday in Exmouth offers access to the rugged beauty of
the Cape Range National Park contrasted with the aquatic splendour of the worldrenowned Ningaloo Marine Park.
Where else in the world can you snorkel with the majestic giant of the deep – the
whale shark - then cruise up rugged gorges to spot native birds and animals as
you can at Yardie Creek.
At Exmouth you can simply don your mask and snorkel and swim out in shallow
waters to see the parade of coloured coral on the Ningaloo Reef. If you prefer not
to get wet, you can also view the Reef via Glass Bottom Boat or take a scenic
flight for a different perspective. Perhaps the lure of the big fish is your holiday
dream. Head offshore to net yourself a prized catch.
And it’s all served up at your doorstep in Exmouth amidst quality accommodation,
shopping, and eating outlets to ensure your holiday exceeds every expectation.

History
Exmouth
Dutch Captain Jacobz of the Mauritius is the first recorded landing in the area
in 1618. Australian Captain Phillip Parker King later visited in 1818 and named
the peninsula North West Cape, as well as the Exmouth Gulf after a British Royal
Naval Officer.
Renowned for being one of the worlds most treacherous coastlines, a decision
was forged after the Marine Board of Enquiry investigated into the Wreck of the
Mildura in 1907, to locate two lighthouses on the Ningaloo Reef.
The Vlamingh Head Lighthouse and the Points Cloates Lighthouse were built in
1911 and 1912 respectively.
In the subsequent years Pearl Luggers visited the area from Broome and
during World War II, the area became important for a military operation named
”Operation Potshot”.
During the 1950’s the area was also known for fishing, pastoral leases and oil
exploration.
In 1967 Australia and the US established a communications base in the area and
in the same year, the town of Exmouth was gazetted.
Two years later, with Tower Eleven providing the light for the seafearers warning,
the Vlamingh Head Lighthouse was retired
Coral Bay
The landing of the schooner ”Maud” in 1884 is the earliest recorded European
activity in the Coral Bay area. Slightly north of the Coral Bay township, it is
now known as Maud’s Landing. In 1896 a town site reserve was gazetted but
it wasn’t until 1915 that Maud’s Landing was officially proclaimed a town.
An area known as Bill’s Bay 3km to the south was becoming very popular
with locals and adventurous travellers. In 1968 formal settlement began with
the establishment of a hotel, caravan park and service station.
The hotel was named the Coral Bay Hotel in reference to the beautiful coral reef
in the bay area. Subsequently the settlement became known as Coral Bay.
Naval Base
The Naval Communication Station was built following an agreement between
Australia and the United States in 1963. Opening in 1967, the station was
officially renamed in 1968 as the U.S. Naval Communication Station Harold E.
Holt, in honour of the late Australian Prime Minister. The primary mission of the
facility was that of a radio relay station, passing messages between Australian
and US command centres and their respective submarines and surface ships in
the Indian Ocean and the Western Pacific.
Today, as the Australian Naval Communication Station it continues to play a
vital role in the secure operation of the Australian submarine fleet. The US Navy
also maintain an involvement, continuing use of the VLF communications, and
contributing to operating costs and upgrades.
Tropical Cyclone Vance caused about $12 million damage to the Base,
destroying many older, unused buildings.
Located at Area A–VLF, is the worlds largest very low frequency transmitter. The
central tower, known as Tower Zero, stands majestically overlooking the North
West Cape. It stands at the centre of the base, surrounded by 12 others, all of
which can be seen from a great distance and is the 2nd tallest structure in the
southern hemisphere, standing 387.6 metres high. Its weighs 800 tonnes and
can withstand winds up to 500km per hour.

(And the occasional Kangaroo)
These friendly natives are our very own welcoming
committee to the area. They are WILD, so please
show them respect , give them the right of way
and DO NOT feed them!
Coral Spawning
March & April
Coral spawning is when coral releases eggs
and sperm into the surrounding ocean - a
remarkable sight for divers and snorkellers.
This occurs approximately 10 to 12 days after
the full moon in both March and April.
Fishing all year round
If the girls at the Exmouth Visitor Centre can
catch a fish ANYONE CAN! We are not telling
fishermen’s tales, see page 33 for proof!
Whale Sharks
April to July
Exmouth and Coral Bay provides an opportunity
of a lifetime – to swim with the majestic
Whaleshark. Whalesharks generally arrive just
after the second coral spawning until the end
of June or beginning of July. They congregate
to the Ningaloo Reef to feed on microscopic
creatures known as zooplankton, offering this
unique opportunity to snorkel with the world’s
biggest fish. Don’t miss the Whaleshark

Beaches
Life’s a beach
If it’s pristine beaches you’re after you have come to the right place! The
Exmouth coastline offers visitors an endless array of stunning, unspoilt, deserted
beaches which cater to everyone’s needs: swimming, snorkelling, sunbathing,
water sports and fishing.
TOWN BEACH
Just 1km from the Exmouth town site, you’ll find Town Beach. Ideal for morning
walks and beachcombing, Town Beach is tidal so swimming on high tide is
recommended. Town Beach also provides 4WD access northbound along the
beach.
BUNDEGI BEACH
Located 12 km north of Exmouth, Bundegi Beach marks the start of the Ningaloo
Marine Park and is a great place for swimming, snorkelling and fishing. A coral
viewing boat departs from here, you’ll find a kiosk adjacent to the jetty as well
as a boat launching facility at the southern end of the beach. A fish cleaning
station is also provided for your convenience. Beach wheelchair and rubber mat
provides access to the Beach.
SURFERS BEACH (otherwise known as Dunes Beach)
On the tip of the northwest Cape, 17kms north of Exmouth youll find a reef break
which is popular amongst local surfers. Surfing experience is recommended. To
get there take Yardie Ck Road West then turn onto Mildura Wreck Rd.
Did you know?. . .
We need your help to maintain our pristine environment.
Please take only photographs and memories and leave
only footprints
16
LIGHTHOUSE BAY
Access tracks along the Mildura Wreck Road into Lighthouse Bay provide
entrance to a variety of beaches suitable for fishing, surfing, swimming or simply
just relaxing. At the end of the road discover the wreck of the SS Mildura, a cattle
ship destroyed when it clipped the reef during a cyclone in 1907. Timbers and
irons were salvaged and used in renovations for Yardie Homestead. The hull sat
on the reef undisturbed until World War II when allied planes used it for bombing
practice! These days it provides an ideal sanctuary for baby Sharks.
JURABI COASTAL RESERVE
The access tracks along the Yardie Creek Road offer a variety of beaches to
choose from. Take a closer look on a low tide as the rock pools hold many hidden
delights such as sea urchins, anemones, starfish and octopus.
Visit the Jurabi turtle Centre, a joint project with Shire of Exmouth and DEC,
a unique timber-decked structure covered by shade sails that is designed to
resemble a turtle. The centre houses a creative range of interpretive materials
that inform visitors of turtle biology, threats, conservation measures and the
correct way to observe nesting turtles without disturbing them.
TURTLE ROOKERIES
During summer, the best beaches to view sea turtles laying and hatching are
from Hunters Access down to Wobiri Access. Pick up a “code of conduct”
from DEC or the Visitor Centre. The Department of Enviroment conduct turtle
activities during the laying and hatching season - ask the friendly staff at the
Visitor centre about these night activities.
MAURITIUS
After an all over tan? Mauritius Beach was declared a “clothing optional beach”
in 1999 and is located just past the Vlamingh Head Lighthouse.
TANTABIDDI
36km from Exmouth, Tantabiddi Beach provides the main boat launching area on
the west side of the Cape. A coral viewing boat operates from here year round.
A fish cleaning station is also provided for your convenience.
Cape Range National Park
South of Tantabiddi, beaches in the Cape Range National Park form the coastline
of the Ningaloo Marine Park. With some of the best beaches in WA, here you can
relax by the sea or enjoy a swim or snorkel in turquoise waters. The road through
to Yardie Creek is sealed and suitable for 2 wheel drive although the creek
crossing and access further south is 4 wheel drive only. There are numerous
unsealed beach access tracks throughout the National Park. All offer a deserted
pristine beach some of which are listed below. For a comprehensive Map, call
into the Exmouth Visitor Centre or DEC.
TURQUOISE BAY
The highlight of the Cape Range National Park beaches, Turquoise Bay is aptly
named. 60km from Exmouth, this crystal clear lagoon offers white sandy
beaches and easy access to great snorkelling. A shaded picnic area allows you
to enjoy it in comfort.
SANDY BAY
Great for families, the shallow clear waters of the bay, along with its wide
beaches and shaded tables, provides a perfect picnic spot. Sandy Bay is ideal
for swimming, landbased fishing or kite surfing.

Blooming marvellous
On first appearances the landscape of the North West region appears to be dry
and harsh. However on closer inspection the land provides an amazing palate of
colours, most of these colours appearing in the form of native plants. The semi
arid, calcium rich soils of the North West Cape nurture an unusually large variety
of flora. More than 630 species have been recorded to this date.
The unmistakable colour of pindan in the ranges is the perfect backdrop for
flowers such as the Sturt Desert Pea and the fascinating Green Bird Flower. The
native flora is not hard to spot however it always helps if you know where to look.
Generally the wildflower season in the area is from June – October. Proliferation
of wildflowers in the area however is dependant on rainfall received. The Cape
Range Trail begins at Minilya and proceeds to the tip of the North West Cape
before heading down the coastline to Yardie Creek.
Below is a general guide but please visit the Exmouth Visitor Centre to obtain
more information.
1 Minilya
Located on the North West Coastal Highway.
Common sights include: Featherflowers, Starflowers, Grevilleas and Hakeas on
the dunes, Banksias and Wattles on the ridges.
2 Coral Bay
Located off Minilya – Exmouth Road
The flat plains area between Minilya and Lyndon River is good for spotting
the shiny dark leaves and white trumpet flowers of the Minilya Lily. Other
common sights include: Spinifex, Kurara, Cape Range Grevillea, Thrytomene
and Melaleuca.
3 Exmouth Gulf
Located on the eastern side of the peninsula
Bright red Yulbah flowers are visible in summer and in winter the golden
blossoms of the Wattle are often interlaced with the purple blooms of the Mulla
Mulla. Common sights may include the Arid Wattle, native tomatoes, Hibbertia,
hairy Pepperflowers, native Foxgloves and the Sturt Desert Pea.
18
Bush Tomato
Sturts Desert Pea
4 Charles Knife Canyon
Located approximately 21km south of Exmouth opposite the Kailis Factory
The unsealed road into the canyons can be accessed by 2 wheel drive. While
travelling through and wondering at awe at the view, take some time to look
for the Cape Range Grevillea, Cape Range Kurrajongs and several species of
Verticordia.
5 Shothole Canyon Road
Located approximately 14km south of Exmouth
This unsealed road accessible by 2 wheel drive will take you through the
bottom of the canyon. If you can tear your eyes away from the spectacular rock
formations take a look for the creamy white flowers of the Eucalypt.
6 Exmouth’s North
Located about 5km north of Exmouth just before the Harold E Holt Naval Base
You can drive here or take the scenic 4.7km walk and cycle track. The Rattlebush,
Green Bird Flower and small clumps of Toucan flowers may be seen along the
way.
7 Vlamingh Head Lighthouse
Located 19km away from Exmouth
Apart from the spectacular views of the reef and sunsets from the lighthouse you
may also see Featherflowers, Starflowers, Broombushes, Pituri , silky Pimelea
and the Bird Flower.
8 Cape Range National Park
Located approximately 40km from Exmouth and extends for another 60km
The Milyering Visitor Centre within the Cape Range National Park have a flora
walk that can be undertaken. While traveling through the park keep your eyes
peeled for Sturt’s Desert Pea, Dampiera, Ashburton Peas, hairy Pepperflowers,
Stackhousia, Indigo, Yardie Creek Morning Glory, Bloodwoods, Wild Cotton and
Flannel Bush and Rock Ficus. After rains you may even spot a white Minilya Lily
in the Pilgramunna area.
Ningaloo Marine Park
Jump into nature’s aquarium
It’s the natural wonders of the Ningaloo Marine Park that attracts people from
throughout the world to Exmouth. The Park protects one of Australia’s most
important tracts of reef - the Ningaloo Reef. Stretching for 260km from Bundegi
Beach near Exmouth to Amherst Point south of Coral Bay, Ningaloo Reef is rich
in marine life.
What makes it even more special is its close proximity to the coast - in many
areas it is only 5-10m offshore. What’s more, the reef protects a lagoon that is
on average only 2-4 m deep and brimming with fish and coral. In fact, some 250
species of coral and 500 species of fish have been recorded in the Park.
SNORKELLING SITES
There are limitless snorkelling sites along the Ningaloo coastline and a variety
of ways to access them. You can experience the Ningaloo Reef from a dive
boat, catamaran, coral viewing boat, sea kayak or by simply snorkelling from
the beach.
LAKESIDE
A great snorkel spot for swimmers of average fitness and capability. From the
carpark walk 400m south along the beach to the marked entry point. Snorkel
out in a northerly direction for 150m before returning to your original entry
point.
Did you know?. . .
Ningaloo Reef is one of the few reef systems in the world
that have formed on the western side of a continent.
TURQUOISE BAY
This stunning bay offers rewarding and easy snorkelling- a perfect spot for
beginners to practice their skills! Enter from the beach and snorkel out over
coral and marine life.
TURQUOISE BAY DRIFT SNORKEL
Considered to be one of the best snorkel sites in the area, this drift snorkel
is definitely worth a go! From the ‘Drift Loop Car Park’, walk south along the
beach approximately 100m to enter the water. Swim straight out and let the
current carry you north over colourful coral bombies before exiting near the
sandbar.
Be aware that this area can possess strong currents with large
waves and high tides contributing to the strength of the current.
Inexperienced swimmers should not swim or snorkel in strong
currents, rather seek the services of licensed tour operators.
OYSTER STACKS
This site is great for fish life and is best accessed on a high or incoming tide.
Take care entering the water as the shoreline is rocky with some sharp oyster
shelled areas. Enter the water at the end of the walking track and snorkel either
north or south. At all places, please never touch coral or marine life - you may
damage it or it may damage you!
These sites can be reached by conventional vehicle but for the more adventurous,
there are sites that can only be reached by 4WD. Many places in Exmouth and
Coral Bay hire snorkel gear.
For information on this and a variety of tours on offer contact the Exmouth Visitor
Centre on 1800 287 328.

Exploring the deep
Enter the world of the giants
Ningaloo Reef is one of the world’s largest coral fringing reefs, teeming with
marine life for you to discover. The various diving and snorkelling tours that
depart from Exmouth and Coral Bay will take you on the experience of a
lifetime.
WHALE SHARKS
Every year from April to July, following the mass spawning of coral, the world’s
biggest species of fish congregate in the Ningaloo Marine Park - whale sharks!
These massive filter feeders can grow up to 8m long. Ningaloo Reef is one of
the only places they appear regularly in large numbers.
The chance to snorkel with these gentle giants is the opportunity of a lifetime,
attracting visitors from all over the world. Day tours (open to confident swimmers
of all ages) to snorkel with whale sharks depart daily during the season from both
Exmouth and Coral Bay.
MARINE LIFE
But it’s not just whale sharks. Humpback whales visit between June and
November and many of the females give birth in the deeper offshore waters.
Manta rays are in the area year round but in more prolific numbers between
May and October. Marine turtles, including Green, Loggerhead and Hawksbills,
inhabit Ningaloo all year and begin their nesting season around November.
Add to this the 250 species of coral and over 500 species of fish and the
Ningaloo Reef is an impressive diving destination year round!
DIVE SITES
Muiron Islands
The tranquil environment of these two uninhabited islands, just 9.8 nautical
miles off the tip of the North West Cape, is teeming with marine life. In waters
of depths 3-20m just off the shoreline, you’ll discover coral gardens made up
of both hard and soft corals.
There are a variety of dive sites off the Muirons that provide an unforgettable
experience. Mating turtles are a common sight from November to February and
Giant Potato Cod are best seen here during the spring and summer months.
Note: Camping on the islands requires permission from the Shire of Exmouth and
the DEC. Overnight trips with tour operators are available.
Did you know?. . .
Of the seven species of turtle worldwide, six can be found
in Australia, three of these can be found at Ningaloo
27
Lighthouse Bay
There are a number of excellent dive sites in the Lighthouse Bay area, including
Blizzard Reef, The Labyrinth and Helga’s Tunnels.
Depths at both Blizzard and Labyrinth range from 12-18m while Helga’s has a
maximum depth of 30m.
There are pristine coral formations and an array of beautiful tropical fish along
with reef sharks and schools of pelagic fish. Turtles are seen almost daily.
West Side
Diving off the West Side of Exmouth Cape offers an amazing range of sites
covered in large and small creatures on reef structures that are quite different to
the sites further north.
West Side diving usually ranges from just north of the Tantabiddi boat ramp
south to the Mandu Wall area. Huge Potato and Rankin Cod, Turtles, Sharks and
schooling Pelagics patrol the blue waters while Parrotfish, Damsels, Butterfly and
Angelfish of all colours decorate the outstanding hard coral reef structures.
Ledges, small caves and plentiful hidey holes provide housing for moray eels,
shrimps, pipefish and many other animals.
Did you know?. . .
The name Ningaloo comes from the local Aboriginal
people meaning promontory or point of high land jutting
into the sea
28
Manta rays cruise this area from mid May and Humpback Whales start showing
up in July to November.
Special tours are offered to see these creatures and many add the opportunity to
dive or snorkel the reef, too!
Combine diving on the West Side with the closer dives (usually termed “local
reef” by operators) to truly get a feel for the incredible diversity Exmouth can
offer.
Dive sites range from 6m - 30m with many sites being suitable for all level of
divers; this area is only accessible during certain months of the year (Mar Aug).
Navy Pier
The Navy Pier is the perfect compliment to your Ningaloo Reef diving holiday,
consistently ranking among the Top Ten shore dives in Australia. Home to an
outstanding variety of marine life from schooling trevally, snapper and barracuda
to giant Queensland gropers, you’ll also discover colourful reef fishes including
angelfish, butterfly fish, Moorish idols and bannerfish. As the Pier remains a
working Defence facility, diving there is available only through a licensed dive
centre. This site has a maximum depth of 15m and is suitable for a wide range
of divers. For more information contact the Exmouth Visitor Centre on 1800 287
328.

A fishing paradise
Hook, Line and Sinker
With the continental shelf only kilometres offshore, fishing and the Ningaloo
Reef go hand in hand. There are many opportunities for beach, reef and game
fishing in the diverse environment of Ningaloo. While there are some sanctuary
zones where fishing is strictly prohibited, there are many other areas in the
Marine Park where the fishing is superb.
Beach fishing can produce surprising reef species, Whiting, Flathead,
Queenfish, Bream and Mangrove Jack just to name a few, while fishing in
Exmouth Gulf turns up a variety of estuarine species. Mud-crabbing and squidfishing are also popular activities and along with 5 different species of Lobster
there is something for everyone.
Professional charter boats depart Exmouth daily. They offer a range of tours
including half and full day fishing trips, as well as being available for private
charter. Ningaloo is also recognised as the premier game-fishing destination in
Western Australia. In March each year, Exmouth hosts the Gamex Tournament
which always produces some fantastic - often record-breaking - catches (a
“Tag and Release” policy is adhered to).
There are over 30 different Game Fish species Black & Blue Marlin, Swordfish,
Mahi Mahi, Broadbill and Sailfish. A variety of succulent Reef Fish including
North West Snapper, Blue Bone, Coral Trout, Red Emperor, Spanish Mackerel
is on offer.
Enquire locally about what’s on the bite!
BOAT LAUNCHING FACILITIES
Exmouth has three boat launching areas. The Exmouth Boat Harbour is located
3km south of the Exmouth townsite, offering concreted boat ramps within the
sheltered wall of the marina. Other boat ramps are located 13km north of town
at Bundegi Beach, and 36km from town (just north of the Cape Range National
Park boundary) at Tantabiddi.

Cape Range National Park
Meet the locals
Cape Range National Park is a spectacular place of rugged limestone ranges,
breathtaking deep canyons and 50km of pristine beaches. The park, managed
by the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC), covers some
50,581 hectares, with its northern boundary just 40km from Exmouth.
Wildlife is abundant with a variety of birds, emus, euros and red kangaroos
commonly sighted. In ancient times the range was isolated as rising sea levels
inundated lower lying areas.
As a result, some species of plants and animals are endemic to the area,
including the Sturt Desert Pea.
Surveys have recorded over 630 species of flowering plants on the peninsula.
No better time is there to see this splendour than in late winter when the
wildflowers bloom.
Various National Park Passes are available from DEC and the Visitor Centre.
Did you know?. . .
Yardie Creek is home to the rare black footed rock wallaby
CAMPING
There are in excess of 90 camping bays in the Cape Range National Park,
most of which are accessible by conventional vehicle. These sites offer easy
access to the coast for swimming, snorkelling, fishing and more. Caravans
are welcome, however there are few facilities - no power, showers or cooking
facilities. Many of the sites have toilets and picnic tables but you must be fully
self-sufficient. No wood fires or pets are permitted in the National Park and due
to the arid nature of the country, it is essential to bring your own water. Sorry,
but bookings are not accepted.
WEST SIDE
MANGROVE BAY
This sanctuary zone includes a bird hide which overlooks a lagoon area. A
variety of birds roost in the lagoon at high tide and many feed on small fish and
other marine life in the shallow waters. Closer inspection may reveal an Osprey
or Brahminy Kite perched above, surveying the coastline.
MILYERING VISITOR CENTRE
The National Park Visitor Centre is 52km from Exmouth. Interpretive displays,
audio-visual facilities and a library containing a wealth of information on the
National and Marine Parks are on hand to help visitors appreciate the natural
environment. National Park rangers are also on site to assist with enquiries. A
Beach Wheel Chair is available with prior arrangement from the Centre.
MANDU MANDU GORGE
A 3km walking trail allows access into this dry gorge. The trail starts from the
end of the Mandu Mandu track and follows the northern ridge of the gorge,
offering stunning panoramic views. The trail leads down into the creek bed from
where you follow the base of the gorge back to the car park.

YARDIE CREEK
The sealed road through Cape Range National Park ends at Yardie Creek – a
spectacular multi-coloured gorge, with permanent water fed from the ocean.
Hidden within the safety of the sheer gorge walls is a colony of Black-footed
Rock Wallabies. With its mangrove areas, Yardie also provides roosting sites for
many bird species, while the sheltered waters are a sanctuary for many marine
animals. There is a relatively easy walking trail along the top of the northern
wall of the gorge or join a boat cruise to fully discover its beauty.
EAST SIDE
There are two unsealed but fully formed roads that run from the Minilya
Exmouth Road into the Cape Range National Park. These provide spectacular
scenic drives with bush-walking opportunities.
SHOTHOLE CANYON ROAD
The access road to Shothole Canyon turns off the Minilya Exmouth Road, 14km
south of the town.
The canyon was named after the shot holes left by seismographic explosions
during oil searches in the 1950’s.
The gravel road meanders over dry creek beds along the gorge floor and offers
close examination of the colourful rock layers of the sheer canyon walls. At the
end of the 12km road there is a picnic area and a short walking trail.
38
CHARLES KNIFE CANYON
This scenic drive turns west off the Minilya Exmouth Road, 21km south of town.
The mostly gravel 11km road follows the razor-backed ridges of the range and
provides breathtaking downward views into the stark multicoloured gorges.
There are several lookout points that provide fantastic photo opportunities and
a marked walking trail from Thomas Carter Lookout. Contact DEC for a walk trail
guide for the Cape Range National Park.
Caution should be taken when bushwalking in the canyon areas as
walls are steep and can be dangerous due to loose surfaces. Don’t
go on your own and always let someone know where you’re going
and when you’ll be back. Cave areas are unsafe due to oxygen
deficiency - for your own safety please remain on existing walking
trails. Avoid walking in the middle of the day and always carry
plenty of water

Coral Bay
Perfect, pristine and protected
Located between Exmouth and Carnarvon on the shores of the Ningaloo Marine
Park, Coral Bay is a perfect destination for people of all ages seeking relaxation,
adventure or simply something refreshingly different. Coral Bay has much to
offer all sorts of people. It’s ideal for the independent traveller searching for
excitement, families looking for an enjoyable, safe environment, scuba divers,
fisher persons, snorkellers and those who simply want to relax, unwind and see
nature at its very best.
FISH
Small schools of Fusiliers and other Reef Fish can be seen darting back and
forth in the shallows. Glass bottom boats and semi-submersible offer tours
from Bills Bay allowing you to view these fish and their habitat.
FISHING
Coral Bay is a fishing paradise. Deep sea bottom fishing, beach fishing and
game fishing are all available.
BEACHES
Coral Bay is all about hitting the beach. A Beach Wheel Chair is available with
prior arrangement from DEC. Head to these locations in and around Coral Bay:
Bill’s Bay
At the end of Coral Bay Road, the sheltered waters of Bill’s Bay make for an
ideal family swimming location. This is a sanctuary zone so no fishing is
permitted but snorkeling is just amazing.
Purdy Point
Purdy Point is 500m south of Bill’s Bay. The red rock known as Fletcher’s Hill
marks the end of the fish sanctuary. This safe swimming beach is also ideal
for snorkeling. Please stay away from the offshore channel as there is often a
lot of boating activity.
40
Paradise Beach
Further south of Purdy Point, just before the easily identifiable “Monks Head”
outcrop, Paradise Beach is appropriately named with its brilliant white sands
and crystal clear waters.
Skeleton Bay
Head north from Bill’s Bay past the boat mooring area to the sheltered
Skeleton Bay. Its large area of waist deep water is perfect for a relaxing swim
– watch out for the steep drop off further out.
From October to March, watch as up to 200 reef sharks frolic in the shallow
waters.
Point Maud
The northernmost point of the sanctuary zone that encompasses Bill’s Bay, the
beach area around Point Maud offers fantastic fishing.
4WD Access
A 4WD track approximately 10km from Coral Bay allows for further coastal
access. The track eventually leads to Ningaloo Station at the southern end of
the Cape Range National Park. About 15km from Coral Bay, check out Oyster
Bridge and The Lagoon.
