KIPPS Investigation & Security is Acquired ALERT THE Keeping our team sharp inside the shield On September 27, Per Mar acquired the Security Officer contracts of KIPPS Investigation & Security out of Stillwater, MN. Please join me in welcoming these clients and Security Officers to the Per Mar family. Jesse Kipps took great care of his clients for many years, something we will continue to do for them. Welcome to the team! Eau Claire team poses for a quick picture The Eau Claire Team Support Local Law Enforcement and Special Olympics The Eau Claire Branch participated in a fundraiser “Run With The Cops, For Special Olympics.” The event was held on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. In their red Per Mar shirts, Per Mar employees performed as race guides for the kids and participated in the mile walk, which included conquering the famous university hill. Great job to all that participated in making this a success. Day one as part of the Per Mar family Per Mar Acquires Northern Safety and Security On October 1, 2015, Per Mar acquired Northern Safety and Security located in Bemidji, MN. There are over 2000 customers in this new territory for Per Mar and this is another example of our dedication to building and growing our business. We are excited to have the members of Northern Safety and Security as part of the Per Mar team and welcome them. If you get a chance, drop them a note and welcome them. With New Branch, Winter Comes in October? Brrrrrr! Bemidji Technician Bruce Armstrong told Brian Duffy in early October that they would have snow before Halloween. Nice job Bruce, by chance do you know the winning lottery numbers too? Frozen Pipe Concerns Create Opportunities As we head into the cold winter months we should be reminding customers that frozen pipes can be common in winter months. Last year, one report said that an average claim for frozen pipes cost about $55,000. The best solution is low temp devices, especially in cabins or the empty homes of the “snowbirds” that flock to the warm weather states. Ribbon Cutting with the Chamber in Bemidji Per Mar Joins Bemidji Chamber On November 11, 2015, members of the Bemidji Chamber of Commerce and our team cut the ribbon in the Bemidji office to celebrate us joining the Chamber. Branch Feature: Des Moines Members of the Des Moines office gather to celebrate over 40 years of success and growth in the Des Moines market. The Des Moines branch is a full-service office, offering Electronic Security and Security Officers. It is also the headquarters for Midwest Alarm, our high-end Fire Protection company. Congratulations to all of you on being part of such a great Per Mar tradition! Happy 40th! Guards in Mt. Vernon Show Exceptional Care I just wanted to give you a heads up about the quality of your staff. On Sunday, November 22, 2015 at about 0145 hrs, our department was dispatched to Smith Hall in reference to an intoxicated female that had been outside and was excessively cold. Upon arrival I met with Bill and David from Campus Safety. They directed me to a female sitting on the floor in the common hall just inside the back door to Smith Hall. She was shivering heavily and bleeding from a small cut to the right knee. I asked Bill and David to knock on doors and obtain some blankets that we could cover her with. They both checked several doors before successfully locating blankets. When LMVAS arrived on scene and began treating her, I was able to speak with Bill about the situation. He relayed the following; Bill advised they were checking parking lots and observed a female in the lot of Smith Hall. He advised that when she observed them, she promptly cut between some cars and disappeared. At this point, a guard could easily chalk it up to a drunk, looking to escape from the view of the “authorities” and continue their patrol. However, your guys, Bill and David, had the wherewithal to be more vigilant. They parked their patrol vehicle and began an on foot search for the female, due to extreme temperatures and slick conditions. In the time it took them to park and exit, the female had gone to the back side of Smith Hall out if sight and away from normal foot traffic. David could hear someone beating on the back door of Smith Hall and they quickly located the female. Bill and David observed she was covered in snow, her clothing was wet to the point of freezing her sleeves closed, she was shivering heavily as well as extremely intoxicated. Bill and David quickly keyed her in to Smith Hall in an attempt to get her out of the cold. I firmly believe the actions of your guards, saved this girl’s life. Upon our arrival, she was somewhat incoherent and had no idea where she had been or how she got to Smith Hall (she resides at Olin). 20 minutes after our arrival and she had been placed in the Ambulance, her body temperature was still significantly lower than normal. Had Bill and David not begun an active search for the girl, I truly believed she would have succumbed to the weather. Be proud of your guys, they did an exceptional job. I don’t know they fully understand the magnitude of their actions, they were pretty humble when I expressed my appreciation to them for what they did, but they really are life savers. Please, pass on my appreciation for their efforts, they deserve to be recognized. Daniel W. (Willie) Daubs #866 Mt. Vernon Police Department Duluth team member Larry LeBlanc presents to Shannon from Life House. Duluth Office Helps the Homeless Life House is a comfortable, consistent and homelike place where the Duluth homeless and street youth can discover their potential. The Duluth branch is using the Per Mar Charity fund donation to help purchase and construct new cabinets at their homeless shelter, which will provide expanded storage for the people in need that stay there. Slips and Falls Tis the season for slips and falls. Remember if you are a Security Officer that you are required to wear grippers that we provide you to protect yourself from slips and falls. The best way to enjoy time with the family is to not let yourself get hurt. Remember to be safe in these wintery conditions. Security Officer Nick Ehlen with his awards Security Officer of the Quarter: Nick Ehlen Nick is currently attending Carl Sandburg College to become a Police Officer. He demonstrates a passion for law enforcement and particularly the security field. Nick has become very comfortable in his position and in a short time he has become a valuable asset to Monmouth College and Per Mar. He has a keen eye, and routinely identifies deficiencies on campus. Nick’s exceptional communication skills have allowed him to connect with the students. This has proved beneficial when responding to incidents. On his own time Nick researches campus safety and security issues nationwide and passes on interesting articles and information to the rest of the staff. Nick prides himself on being a professional security guard and tries to resolve problems at the lowest level before elevating things to the security supervisor. If he isn’t sure of what to do he will research the established policies and procedures to find the answers. Nick is also very effective in gathering information and putting together a file to build a case. On September 22, Nick responded to a Hit and Run case on campus. Nick collected the information and wrote a detailed incident report. Typically we would file the report with the police and let the owners insurance work it out. Unsatisfied with that process, Nick took it upon himself to investigate the incident and because of his hard work he found a suspect. When Nick questioned the subject, he denied committing the hit and run. Through Nick’s persistence and superior interview techniques he was able to get the suspect to admit to the hit and run. Nick notified the police and the owner of the car that was struck by the hit and run driver. Nick showed true concern for the owner of the car that the hit and run driver struck. Nick’s performance reflects greatly upon himself, Monmouth College, and Per Mar. Congratulations Nick on leading by example.
