Greetings:
It is time to register for the St. James Center for Biblical Studies 2015 Fall Semester!
Classes will begin on Monday, September 21st and Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015. We
are so excited about how the Lord has blessed us to enter into our eighth year. This Fall
Semester, we will offer 18 classes (9 classes on Mondays, 1 class on Tuesdays, and 8
classes on Wednesdays). Two new classes have been added this semester: Study of the
Poetic Books of the Bible taught by Sis. Benetta Perry and THE INCARNATION: In The
Gospel according to Matthew, Mark, Luke, John taught by Sis. Malartha Bosier.
Rev. Dr. Leon McCowan taught the New Testament Class Part 2 in our “second” SJCBS
Summer Mini Session. After our Fall Semester, Rev. Dr. McCowan will be teaching the
New Testament Class Part 1 in our “second” Winter Mini Session. This class will be
offered on Saturdays in December. More information will be coming soon.
This SJCBS Booklet will include: Fall Semester Course Descriptions, Schedule,
Classroom locations, and Registration Form. Please note the tuition cost is $35.00 per

Mission Statement
The St. James Center for Biblical Studies is dedicated to providing biblically sound
training that leads one to discover Christ, to learn Christ, to grow in Christ, and to
manifest Christ. Our desire is to prepare one for the work of the ministry, to assist one
in fulfilling their calling, and to help one to live out the Gospel.
Basic Curriculum
30 Hours- Certificate of Completion
(All Core Classes required for Graduation)
*Certificate of Participation will be issued the end of each semester
All teachers are certified instructors for teaching the Word of God through Shaw Divinity
School, Raleigh, NC. Students enrolled in SJCBS will receive a Certificate of
Completion and participate in SJCBS Graduation Ceremony after successfully
completing all required core courses and electives from SJCBS.

I. Biblical Studies
Survey of the Old Testament - 101 (Tuesdays)
This course is designed to help the student to understand the Bible as a whole. The Bible is one
book telling the story of Redemption, and that redemption is only through the Blood of Jesus
Christ.

How the Bible Came to Be- Course #103 – (Mondays)
This course confirms that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. In this session the very Word of
God will indeed validate Itself. Exciting evidence uncovers the finds of some of history's most
fascinating discoveries, including the Dead Sea Scrolls. As we handle precious texts, examine
Books and unearth biblical facts, each student's comfort level will grow weekly. There is power
in the Word of God! This study will assure that we stand confidently on the authentic, inerrant
"God-breathed" Word of God. "

The student will enhance their knowledge of the New Testament. The student will also
participate in discussions, lectures and practical exercises in the form of article reviews.

Study of Systematic Theology Course # 405 (Mondays)
Systematic theology is a discipline of Christian theology that formulates an orderly, rational, and
coherent account of the Christian faith and beliefs.
Systematic theology draws on the foundational sacred texts of Christianity, while simultaneously
investigating the development of Christian doctrine over the course of history, particularly
through philosophy, science and ethics. Inherent to a system of theological thought is that a
method is developed, one which can be applied both broadly and particularly.

THE INCARNATION: In The Gospel according to Matthew, Mark, Luke, John
Course #802
(Mondays)
The truth affirmed in The Gospel that God, in essence, is identical to Jesus in The Incarnation will
guide us in this study. We will focus particularly on scripture within the books of Luke and John.
We will also profile, review, and discuss several works by Bishop Athanasius including, On the
Incarnation. Athanasius, born in Alexandria, Egypt at the end of the 3rd century AD, is regarded
as one of the four great Doctors of the Church.

Along with the Bible, the use of Digital Biblical material is encouraged for study and informed

Learning How to Eat to Live Biblically Course # 803 (Wednesdays)
This course creates opportunities for individuals to make healthy choices biblically. Students
obtain classroom instruction with homework assignments. By researching various scriptures,
students will identify, analyze and discuss the biblical context of foods to be consumed for
healthy living thereby increasing their quality of life.

Overcoming Fear By Faith Course #804 – (Wednesdays- Spring Semester 2015)
This course is designed to give students the tools to grow and develop in Christian Maturity.
This course will prepare the student to combat the tricks Satan uses to paralyze the mind
