Antique Appraisal Fair
The Community Center will be hosting an Antique Appraisal fair on Saturday April 11 from 10am to 2pm. This
event offers the opportunity to dust off your antiques and bring them in to have a cost estimate prepared for $10 per
item. Make a day of it, and enjoy musical entertainment with Tom Stroud and a hot dog and chili bar, for a cost of
$1.50 apiece. Proceeds from this event will benefit the senior nutrition program which provides seniors in Wilsonville
with five meals weekly at the Center, or delivered directly to home bound seniors.
Oregon Senior Zoo mobile
Sign up today for your opportunity to get up close and personal with some “touchable” animals straight from the
Oregon Zoo. There will be an educational slideshow and an opportunity for question and answer as a Zoo representative shares their experience with animals, and how regular contact with animals can have therapeutic benefits. Please
stop by the Center to sign up.
Spring into Zumba Gold
Our fun loving instructors Heidi and Jean are back for another session of Zumba Gold at the Center. Join them as you

themes, including: happy birthday, spring/Easter wishes, and Fourth of July greetings. The class takes place at the
Community Center on Tuesday, March 10 from 9am to noon, and the fee is $20. Please register as soon as possible so

WCSI Board Meeting
February, 11 2015
Chairman Wes called the meeting to order at 1pm, roll call, and approval of Jan. minutes and today’s
agenda were approved.
Wes introduced Mary Joyce VanWechel as our liaison to report on the I—5 Connection chorus activities.
John the Treasurer was absent and Wes advised the Board of his stepping down from the Treasurer position due to health reasons.
Patty Bresia reported the City Recreation brochure will return to a quarterly edition with the summer issue. Upcoming events of City’s public are Senior Zoomobile on March 24 at 10:30am to 11:30am, Antique

Budget study. The Recreation/Aquatic Budget plan will be on the November ballet.
Wes then lead the Board in a discussion on fund raising. Anna Dubas will be researching if local business
would like to advertise in the Gazette on a yearly basis at set rates. There is a ‘rumor’ that a gorgeous quilt
from a tropical state may be up for Raffling in the future.
Wes then asked for consensus of members to have a brainstorming/goal setting meeting to discuss new
ideas for WCSI to support the Centers activities for seniors.
Wes then reported that both John McDonald, treaurer and Debbie Dahlquist, I-5 Connection liaison, are
both stepping down from these positions.
Jean reported she is handing over her Bakery Donations pickup and distribution to Dave Lahr and his wife
Sally in April. Jean also announced it is time for her to start planning outdoor trips and all are welcome to
come up with suggestions.

Saint Patrick’s Day History
HOW HAS THE COMMUNITY CENTER
HELPED YOU??
Saint Patrick was a priest and former slave
and who is known converting the Irish to Christianity. St Patrick is the patron Saint of Ireland.
This is a new column we are going to add to the Gazette.
If you know of someone who has been helped by an activity,
Class, delivery of lunches, please inform us and we will print
it in the Gazette.
Saint Patrick’s Day Facts & Quotes:
This is the story of Helen Braganza
Editor/Publisher of the Gazette.
St. Patrick used the three –leaf shamrock to
explain the Trinity to non-Christians. The leaves
stood for the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
At the age of 16, St. Patrick was taken prisoner and made a slave by a group of Irish raiders
who were attacking his family’s estate. They
transported him to Ireland where he spent six
years in captivity.
Three days before my 65th birthday, I was diagnosed with
Aggressive Stage III Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Well,
you can imagine how devastated I was. The only good thing
is that since I was turning 65 I will have insurance, (have not
had insurance for 5 years). They rushed me to Dr’s for consultations on what kind of cancer I had and what was going to
happen. The first week of Dr’s appointments almost 200
miles was put on Barbara Ricker’s car. (who was there for
every Dr. appointment, emergency room visit, chemo treatment). The first chemo treatments went very well, I was told
that the second chemo would be easier, well, this round of
chemo put me down and out. No energy, slept a lot, could not
walk or breath. This put me in the emergency room 2 times, 1
blood transfusion, I also had to learn how to walk again.
7 chemo treatments, visits to the hospital, which included 5
full days where they could not figure why I could not breath.
They finally found out that my left side of my vocal cord had
frozen. 11 days in rehab, to learn to talk and walk, and also
my feet, and both hands went numb. Came home using a
walker, could not stand so I called the community center and
I had my lunches delivered every day for 5 weeks. This was
great, I at least got a good nutritional meal and the people
delivering meals made sure I was okay.
I had 32 radiation treatments and with physical therapy, my
legs are stronger, still working on my balance and working on
my stamina.
I was one who never thought I would use this service and I
was very happy it was available.
Saint Patrick’s Day Top Events and Things to
Do:
Wear green! In some parts of the world the
custom is to pinch people who are not wearing
the color of shamrocks.
Attend a St. Patrick’s Day parade. Major cities like Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas and Boston host marching bands
and floats.
Share a couple green beers with friends aat a
local Irish pub. The heart of any Irish neighborhood is its local pub.
Thank you for your Contribution
