Chaplain’s Message:
Several weeks ago, Diana handed me a piece of paper that had a
statement written on it. It said, “Nothing happens, nothing happens, and
then….. everything happens.” That statement has perfectly described
our life over the last seven weeks.
In last month’s newsletter, I wrote about Diana’s and my trip to Europe.
It was cold, but amazing, and we had a great time in spite of the
weather. What I did not share at that time, which I can now, is that we
had a life changing phone call during that trip. We had toured the Royal
Delft pottery factory that day, eaten dinner, and then gone back to our
hotel room. I turned on my phone in order to text our daughter. Before
texting her, we saw that I had a text to call my District Superintendent
or the Bishop immediately. The text even contained the Bishop’s
personal cell phone number. I instantly knew it was a serious matter,
but I did not know or comprehend that it would be a life changing phone
call. When I talked to the Bishop, he asked me to consider leaving First
United Methodist Church of Azle and becoming the senior pastor of
Trinity United Methodist Church in Arlington. We talked about this issue
for over an hour, and then he said to talk to Diana and pray about it. We
did talk and pray, and made a decision to accept the offer to move
because we believe that God is calling us to do this.
Leaving Azle after 14 years is not an easy thing to do, but sometimes
God challenges us to make difficult decisions. In fact, some of the
hardest decisions in life are not between a good and bad thing, but
between two good choices. This decision was one of those. Since that
call, our minds have been in turbo charge about the transition that will
take place next month. My last Sunday in Azle is June 16th, and the next
Sunday, June 23rd is my first Sunday at Trinity in Arlington. There are
so many things on our minds and on our agendas that it is difficult
commit time to anything else now or in the near future. It is for this
reason that I need to immediately step down as the club chaplain. For a
while it will be difficult to make the club meetings and maybe even the
monthly shows. Being a part of the Christian Classic Cruisers has been a
great part of my life over the last few years. I will miss you for a while,
but you will be on my mind every second Tuesday and third Saturday.
You are an AWESOME group of people and it is a privilege to be a part of
what we do.

President’s Message:
This has been a busy time for all of the club members. Our May car show
was a good show with 175 paid cars and the weather was GREAT!! It was
hot in the beginning however it cooled off to an enjoyable evening. We
had several of our members missing so I appreciate all of you that did
come.
This is our Father’s Day show coming up June 15th. I know a lot of
people will be on vacation and going to car shows out of town, so this
means we need all of you in town and helping with the set up, tear down
and judging. This month should be a good attended show providing we
have good weather. The show is from 5 to 9 pm.
Please keep your prayers going for the Muno family while Kelli is healing
and things going the right direction. She needs to continue to heal both
physically and emotionally. Larry Hunter is still recovering from his
treatments and needs your prayers for strength and healing. Sandy
Oldenkamp also needs your prayer for healing. Do not forget to pray for
their mates while they go through this difficult period. Also remember
Anita Hale who is going in for a hip replacement on June 3rd.
Please remember to call someone in the club who you have not seen or
heard from and check up on them. We care and need all members to
keep up with other members.

NSRA Mid-America Nationals Springfield
What a GREAT Trip...probably the best overall trip to Springfield in the
past twelve or thirteen years. It all started early on Thursday morning,
hitting the road before the sun came up. The group elected to go across
the Metroplex by going to Denton, then taking Hwy 380 across to
McKinney, then turned north on Hwy 75. This route was taken to avoid
the potential traffic issues in Moore, OK. Later learned from Mr. Dave
Forrester that this was an "excellent idea", as Dave traveled up Intestate
35 through Oklahoma City only to meet with torrential downpour and hail
in Norman and continued until out of Oklahoma City. Dave said that
thankfully, he did not see any damage on his vehicle. We encountered a
slight drizzling rain around McAlister, nothing bad, matter of fact only ran
the windshield wipers on intermittent for about 20-30 minutes. The
group enjoyed a good "chicken tenders and honey" lunch near the home
of Carrie Underwood. The remainder of the outgoing voyage was without
incident.
Arrived in Springfield about three o'clock. Went directly to the Host
Hotel to complete the registration process.
Visited with several
participants before going to our hotel. Paul and Patti Harrill had already
arrived in Springfield ahead of us (Patti and Liz had a booth in Women's
World). We got the whole group checked into the hotel without any
issues. Made plans to go to the Chrome Insurance Kickoff Dinner that
started at 6:00 p.m. at the ANPAC facilities. Enjoyed a time of fellowship
with friends and a really good BBQ dinner.
Friday brought high skies with great temperatures, slight breeze and tons
of registered participants. Possibly the most vehicles on a Friday that I
have seen on the Ozark Empire Fair Grounds in the fifteen years that we
have attended this event. Early registration on Thursday afternoon was
above 1,500, so the weekend was looking good. Vendor participation
was down somewhat, on the Boy's Toys side, but Women's World was
full. Lunch was at Culver's - a Butter Burger, fries, and Turtle Sunday.
Back to the Fair Grounds to fun, fellowship, and more. Dinner at Ruby
Tuesday, and then crown the day with a wonderful turtle sundae at
Andy's Frozen Custard.
Saturday was SPECTACULAR!! Bright Sunshine, Shiny Cars and Trucks,
and lots and lots of people!! Several applications of sun screen were
mandatory. Vehicles were everywhere, places that no one has needed to
park for several years. Final participant count was 2,067 registered. We
walked the Fair Grounds several times with a purpose, and I am talking
the whole place from the southwest gate to the Swap Meet area's
northeast gate. We had seen a car at the Host Hotel on Thursday that

neither of us exactly knew what it was. So the search was on...but to no
avail...looked for three days, never saw the car again (but we all agreed,
Carolyn was right)!! I had claimed victory, but failed to convince her
that it was a 1948 Oldsmobile. We actually believed it to be a late 40's
Cadillac. Dinner was shared with Paul, Patti, and Liz at Lamberts. With
only an hour and twenty minute wait, we did catch-up on all the news
concerning our respective families, jobs or lack thereof, hopes and
dreams. I did catch three "Thrown Rolls" and intercepted another one
just before it reached Paul's outstretched hands.
Sunday morning brought another beautiful day. What better way to start
the day than listening to the Pacesetters Quartet sing great "old" songs,
in great harmony. Knew the words to all of them!! The Reverend Jim
Rowlett preached a wonderful sermon, and God's Spirit fill the arena
(yes, I cried). Songs, Sermon, Fellowship, and Prayer with family and
friends and the sweet presence of our Heavenly Father - it was a wonder
day in church. The NSRA Awards were held in the stadium Sunday
afternoon. A great collection of vehicles received awards. Sad to report,
"No" Door Prizes were won by the group this year.
Departed the Fair Grounds around 4:30 p.m. after assisting Patti with the
teardown of her booth (Liz had an ill child and husband, so she needed to
leave). We detoured through Joplin to view the storm damaged area. It
was exactly two years ago that Carolyn and I were spared personal
disaster only by the grace of God and by only fifteen minutes. We were
driving through Joplin on Interstate 44, wrestled with the idea of
stopping to eat and elected to go on to Springfield. Our timeline was
exactly 15 minutes ahead of the tornado that destroyed the large portion
of Joplin. Some reconstruction has happened, mostly with national
commercial businesses and multi-family facilities. Many, many of the
small business owners have not rebuilt, just an empty slab where a
business once operated. There is grass and weeds where homes once
stood, only the driveway remains.
They are rebuilding the Mercy
Hospital that was so severely damaged. Our journey home took us back
through Oklahoma City and Moore. The devastation of the storms there
were reminiscent of the tragedy in Joplin. Seeing the ruins of Medical
Center of Moore was so eerily similar to the Mercy Hospital in Joplin. We
were happy to arrive back to a save and sound house around 2:30 a.m.
on Monday morning. Although we had enjoyed the weekend, we both
had a heavy heart, having seen first-hand the recent storm destruction in
Moore and the very slow recovery process in Joplin, and we are so
thankful for God's protection and mercy on us.
Yes, we will make plans to go next year to Springfield's NSRA MidAmerica Nationals; the dates will be 22-25 May 2014.

The Lone Star Corvette Classic Show
Saturday May 18th was a LONG Day, but what a BLAST!
The Lone Star Corvette Classic was held May 17 - 19, 2013, at Texas
Motor Speedway.
Lone Star had asked Bobby Stout if Christian Classic Cruisers would run
the audio for the meet. They said that our shows have the best music
and sound and that they said they would be happy to pay for us to setup and run the audio.
Bobby and Carolyn were going to do this by themselves. It seeded to me
it would be quite difficult for the two of them, so I told Bobby I would be
happy to help. He said to be at Texas Motor Speedway by 6 am on
Saturday the 18th. That was the same day as our CCC show.
The set-up went well. Everything worked fine.
Never have I seen that many Corvettes in one place. The Corvette
Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky was there and brought some rare

and specialty corvettes. General Motors, Corvette Division was there
with new Corvettes to test drive. The new head of design for the
Corvette Division as well as the previous head of design were there with
a Pre-production 2014 Corvette, which they parked directly in front of
our audio booth. Way Cool Car! This team built it from per-production
1st run parts off of production tooling. Neat car and it was a very nice
green metallic color.
Many people stopped to thank us for such a good job with the music and
announcements.
WOW WHAT A SHOW! And CCC was a part of it!
As the CCC show set-up was to be at 3:30-4:00 pm at Birdville Stadium,
we started to do teardown about 2:30 pm. Thanks to Stan Friesen
showing up to help, teardown went quickly.
WOW WHAT A SHOW! And CCC was a part of it! The money from this
fun time will help pay for our Christmas Party and dinner. My thanks to
Bobby, Carolyn and Stan Friesen for a JOB WELL DONE!

Bits and Pieces:
Recently Machinist Workshop Magazine did a test on penetrating oils.
Using nuts and bolts that they “scientifically rusted” to a uniform degree
by soaking in salt water, they then tested the break-out torque required
to loosen the nuts. They treated the nuts with a variety of penetrates
and measured the torque required to loosen them.
This is what they came up with:
Nothing: 516 lbs
WD-40: 328 lbs
PB Blaster: 214 lbs
Liquid Wrench: 106 lbs
(ATF)/Acetone mix (50/50): 50 lbs
This last “shop brew” of 50% automatic transmission fluid and 50%
acetone appears to beat out the commercially prepared products costing
far more.

Three weeks ago, my Troy-Bilt Lawn Tractor died while I was cutting my
lawn. Thank God I bought the Extended Warranty from Lowe's when I
bought the tractor. After having the tractor for only thirty two months it
died. So, rather than fix it, Lowe's decided to give me my money back.
The complete amount plus tax. So what you see is my new 46", 22 HP
Husqvarna and it boogies.
