The Eastern Shore is the Place for Business in Alabama!
The Eastern Shore is the Place for Business in Alabama! Fairhope rated #1 and Daphne rated number #4 FAIRHOPE, Alabama -- Among Alabama’s 50 largest cities, Fairhope has earned the title of being the most business-friendly, according to a new report released by the Alabama Policy Institute. Pitted against the likes of Montgomery (8th), Hoover (33rd), Mountain Brook (35th), Mobile (40th) and Birmingham (47th) through research of each city’s tax policy, costs of living, crime rates, population and job growth, Fairhope rose to the top. John Hill, Ph.D, senior policy analyst for the independent nonprofit research and education organization, compiled data that led to ranking the cities in four categories, “based on criteria that both ensure business success and protect the entrepreneurial spirit”: Economic Vitality, Business Tax Burden, Community Allure and Transportation Infrastructure. Alabama is the second most business-friendly state in the country, according to a new survey. Only Utah is ranked higher, according to the survey, which was produced by thumbtack.com, an online service that connects customers to small businesses, and the Kauffman Foundation, which supports entrepreneurship through grants. The findings were announced Friday and the full report gave the nod to Fairhope as its overall scores were the best. The survey asked more than 7,700 small business owners around the country a series of questions about the business environment. “Fairhope is Alabama’s Most Business-Friendly City,” the report revealed. “Located in Baldwin County, this city finished first in Economic Vitality, eighth in the Business Tax Burden category, 27th in Community Allure and fifth in the less-weighted category of Transportation Infrastructure, for a composite score of 73.85 out of 100 possible points, edging out Millbrook (70.95) and Athens (70.55).” States were ranked according to 11 aspects of business friendliness, including overall business friendliness and more specific measures like the friendliness of the licensing code, tax code, environmental regulations and the quality of local training networks. Another Baldwin city cracked that top five as Daphne earned a 69.37 score to take fourth. Excerpts of article by Robert McClendon, al.com, 4/16/2013 press-register. Excerpts of article by Marc D. Anderson, al.com, 4/9/2013 press-register. Alabama ranked at or near the top in all categories, including overall business friendliness.
