Butt the Starmaker 8 up against the ruler, remove the ruler, and cut along the Starmaker 8. Offset the strips by 2" to save fabric. 16 Kaye's Technique: Cut each strip into rows of diamonds, by placing the bottom of the Starmaker® 8 along the bottom of the strip set. Cut along the diagonal line. 1 1-800-248-5293 www.kayewood.com 3 Lone Star Chart 2 2 Kaye;s Technique: Make a chart showing the number of diamonds in each point of the star. The chart has a lot of the information you need, such as: a. The number of strips to cut from each fabric, eg. cut 4 strips from the #4 fabric, cut 2 strips from the #6 fabric. b. The way the strips are sewn together into strip sets, e.g. #1 through #4 are sewn into one strip set. c. The angle to cut the strip sets. 4 3 3 1 4 (This is one of the projects that you can choose if you take Kaye's Teacher Certification Class) 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 C L O V E R Line up the rows of diamonds, according to the chart. Kaye's Matching Techniques: Two different types of matching seamlines are used—a Diamond Match and a Needle Match. A Diamond Match is used on the seamlines between the diamonds. The seamline must match ¼" in from the righthand side of the segments (marked with an black dot). To match these seamlines, insert a pin from the wrong side of the top segment, directly in the seamline and ¼" in from the edge. needle Put the pin through match to the right side of the underneath segment and 1/4" from the edge. DO NOT TURN THE PIN NOW. Hold the pin straight up and down through both points. Hold the seam allowances together between your thumb and finger to keep the seamlines matched; then turn the pin and bring the point of the pin up through the fabric following the underneath seamline. Note: Pinning is more accurate when the pin goes along the straight of grain(along the seamline). A Needle Match is used for the V that forms at the top of the segments. Put the sewing machine needle down into the machine; it should be set to sew ¼" seam with a ¼" foot with seam guide. Place the bottom segment under the machine presser foot, with the fabric against the guide on the foot. Place the top segment under the machine presser foot. The two segments should overlap at the needle. If the needle is not in the spot where the two segments overlap, leave the needle down and adjust the segments. Lower the presser foot and start sewing. Kaye's Technique: Sew the star points together into groups of two; sew all the way from one edge to the next (do NOT leave the seams open ¼") The ¼" seam allowance must be accurate all the way to the center of the star. If the center of the star does not lay flat, it is usually because you narrow the seam allowance as you come into the center.
