Yes, a better salesman and a sleek approach can help, but the battle is not won in the seat of Wentworth, there is Blacktown and beyond… there is Victoria, South Australia and Queensland, not to forget the great deal of conservative supporters, who do not believe in political coups. Then there is the time factor, taking the Christmas/Holiday period into account, which leaves at best 7 months, not much time to do what is really needed - a big picture and a bold plan for the future and the guts to challenge and/or win over the opposition with plan not even they can say not to, because the public is for it! Shorten might fall seemingly short now in the eyes of the Australian electorate, but the great helping hand of the unions cannot be underestimated, besides the possibility that he and his party (helped by the Greens) might come up with some appealing long term plans how our society could live, work and play? You got your work cut out, mate Malcolm, and we wish you well on your journey to think 24/7 what is best for all of us. The Eastern Suburbs Spectator/Times/Leader/Chronicle 18/9/15 New tenants to move into Bronte House Waverley Council has chosen local Waverley residents Wes and Anna van der Gardner and family as the new tenants of Bronte House for a five year lease period. “Waverley is so privileged to own this extraordinary 1845 property with beautiful heritage gardens...it needs a very special tenant and we’re delighted to be welcoming the van der Gardner family to this special place.” Mayor of Waverley, Cr Sally Betts said. Wes and Anna van der Gardner have two young children and bring experience and expertise in restoring heritage buildings, landscape design and interior design. There may be someone you need to be a little clearer and a little more direct with, try to use tact, but also, make it completely understood that your time is valuable and they should not be wasting it. Try not to let them have it too hard, but, perhaps it's time to think about cutting that tie. TAURUS Take extra special precaution with everything, how you say things, how you do things, how you are thinking. How you think tends to become how you act: so, stifle those ah, less than pure thoughts about someone before you decide to act on a very fun, but bad idea. Flirtation is intense with some, but may be misconstrued. On the work front, you might find yourself needing to outline things more clearly. GEMINI Be incredibly careful, Gemini. Mercury in Retrograde is just cramming your feet into your mouth from Thursday on. Unfortunately, these verbal mishaps won't be seen as admirably brutally honest, they won't be seen as insightful or bold: they'll be seen as mean and hurtful. Take great care to mind your words, and you will find they make the changes you want to see, rather than some you don't want. CANCER You may just feel a little bit annoyed at others this week and questioning what the heck they're doing in your life, Cancer. Mood wise, you're going to be a bit on the darker, perky side. You're going to be feeling a little less tolerant of annoyances- and a whole lot more witty. Be careful what you say, this week and to who you say it. LEO Have you been noticing that the littlest tech issues have been popping up and just making things a royal pain? The Universe is in fact, tapping you on the shoulder, trying to let you know: there are places where you can trim the fat, but, when you go with the cheaper option, purely because it is: you're going to have to put out so many fires that it's no longer really that inexpensive. VIRGO If you have been considering making big changes, wait. Take time to plan, now, Virgo. This for you guys, has been a year of endings- sometimes explosive and new beginnings as a result. As you go through this week, you might get caught up in a little daydreaming, a little nostalgia. It may catch you off guard, make you cry, make you think, and even make you smile. Give yourself permission to cry, to grieve and mourn your losses- but also, take the time to consider those victories, both large and small. You've already overcome so much. LIBRA If you're starting to notice that others around you seem a bit more grouchy, Libra, it may be time to consider some of what they say. Dig a little deeper, and go a bit introspective to explore the challenges lobbed at your feet. If you are feeling unhappy with certain aspects of your life, or somewhat insecure: do not attempt to solve the problems of others this week. SCORPIO If you're feeling just a bit more driven, and maybe even a little darker than usual this year so far, Scorpio, it's understandable. Use Pluto's powerful influence to transform those things in your life you don't like and aren't working for you. SAGITTARIUS Twists, turns and surprises may be bubbling up this week for you, Sagittarius. Don't worry, this putting out fires phase of things will soon be over and a much smoother, much more beneficial energy will begin to flow as creative minds come up with some awesome things. Collaborate and really, give it all you've got. You are on the way to something so much bigger than you know, just yet. CAPRICORN It's time to take charge and get everyone on the same page, and to do so as tactfully as possible. Look at the areas in your life where you are strongest, and encourage that. Where improvements can be made, make them- but in those areas that are lost causes: let them fall by the wayside without pushing. AQUARIUS You may have a small list of things to work on now that the introspection of your moods has taken you some unexpected places, Aquarius. Think of this last week of the retrograde like your own personal End of the Year- only, instead of resolutions, you'll be making revolutions when it finally goes direct! It'll be go time, then. Plan to go big or go home. PISCES Rather than struggle against your moods, why not take this week to look into where they're stemming from. Don't be the person who ends something meaningful over a small thing, dig deep to determine what big thing makes it seem worse. On all fronts- think on this deeply but do not act on anything. Just keep thinking: you're good at it, and now is certainly a good time to ruminate. 9371 9412 TRIVIA MAGIC & CURRY NIGHT WEDNESDAY NIGHTS 7PM starts 2nd September Have you thought about where to have your Wedding, Christening, Corporate, Xmas party, Birthday party, reunion …. More Ships Down Under Australians’ passion for cruising has fuelled the nation’s biggest ever summer cruise season, with a record flotilla of cruise ships sailing Down Under over the coming months – including many newcomers to our shores. According to peak cruise industry body Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Australasia, 38 ships from its member cruise lines will sail in Australian waters this summer, with an unprecedented eight ships making their maiden visits to Australia. Over the 201415 summer cruise period, 36 CLIA member cruise ships visited Australia, including three ships making their inaugural visit. CLIA Australasia Commercial Director Brett Jardine said the growth in maiden ship visits was another clear indicator of the surging popularity of cruising. “Cruise lines around the world are looking for new destinations and new homeports for their ships – and Australia is hot property right now,” Mr Jardine said. “Not only do we have fantastic ports to visit and great weather, we also have a population that can’t wait to cruise, and that’s encouraging more cruise lines to send more ships our way.” Aston Hotels & Resorts, Hawaii China Glass Bridge Oz to Arctic Circle Holidaymakers will be able to escape winter and head to the Land of the Midnight Sun in 2017, when Princess Cruises’ Sea Princess embarks on the first ever cruise from Australia to visit the Arctic Circle. The decision effectively saves High Cross Park and creates a light rail stop closer to the Sydney Children’s Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital. “This is an excellent decision by the NSW Government and they are to be commended,” Mayor Seng said. “Well done to the Minister and the light rail team – they have listened to the community, undertaken a methodical assessment of the pros and cons and shown a considered and best-practice approach by modifying the plans to deliver a better customer experience for commuters, residents and shoppers. “Responsive, considered and progressive is what I’d call it.” The amendment to the NSW Government’s $2.1b CBD and South East Light Rail project will protect High Cross Park and its 90-yearold war memorial, save trees, reduce parking loss and reduce construction costs. “Importantly the change provides an opportunity to create a new public transport and pedestrian plaza at the intersection of High, Avoca and Belmore integrated with the Randwick town centre,” Mayor Seng said. “I also want to acknowledge the outstanding work of our local MP Bruce Notley-Smith who championed this issue on behalf of the community.” Woollahra Honours Christina Stead (1902-1983) - Renowned Australian novelist Last Thursday Council honoured the renowned Australian novelist Christina Stead by unveiling a plaque outside her former home at 14 Pacific Street Watsons Bay. The household dynamics at her home in Watson’s Bay played a critical role in shaping her character, life and writing. Council is currently calling for nominations for its community plaque scheme that acknowledges and honours famous people, places and events that have made a significant impact on the development of Australia as a nation and its culture. Woollahra has a proud history and it is important that we celebrate the achievements of prominent citizens that have lived amongst us. People interested in submitting suggestions for new plaque locations can do so via theLocal History page of Council’s website – www.woollahra.nsw.gov.au. The 0 to 2 year old section is already booked out. Goodstart Early Learning is holding an open day this Saturday 19th September from 10am2pm. Families and local residents are invited to peruse the facilities and to chat to staff about what the centre can offer your children. On 16th September 2015, the NSW Premier Mike Baird and the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull signed the Bilateral Agreement outlining how and when the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will roll out in NSW over a two year period from 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2018. This is wonderful news on so many levels for everyone in my electorate. For people with disability, their families and carers, but also for teachers, to local bus drivers, local area health workers and our many service providers throughout the South Eastern Sydney region. The NDIS delivers confidence to people with disability, their families and carers so they can look forward to the future. A future where they can identify their goals and exercise choice and control over the supports they need to meet them. A future where they will no longer have to worry about losing supports based on annual budgets, or only getting supports because they have reached crisis point. From 1 July 2016, people living in Hunter New England, Southern NSW, Central Coast, Northern Sydney, South Western Sydney, Western Sydney and Nepean Blue Mountains will be able to access the NDIS. From 1 July 2017, the NDIS will be in place across the rest of NSW, and people living in Northern NSW, Mid North Coast, Sydney, South Eastern Sydney, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Murrumbidgee, Western NSW and Far West NSW will be able to access the NDIS. With so many people coming into the scheme in such a short time it is important that there is a planned approach to how they access the NDIS. The majority of people receiving specialist disability supports will be able to access the NDIS in the first six months of each of the two year rollout periods, using a simplified access process. This includes people who might be living in supported accommodation, accessing a community access service such as a day program or case management service. People who access specialist disability supports from time-to-time, or for a short amount of time each week, will be able to access the NDIS throughout each of the two year rollout periods. People receiving respite services will go through a simplified access process. People receiving community care services will be supported to apply for access to the NDIS. Supporting people who are in immediate need of assistance, and do not currently have support, is important during the rollout. There is some capacity during rollout for people who have not previously received supports to access the scheme when it starts in their local area. NSW launches NDIS website The NSW Government has launched a new website www. ndis.nsw.gov.au <http://www.ndis.nsw.gov.au> with a range of information and resources about the rollout of the NDIS in NSW. We continue to work closely with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), which is the Commonwealth agency responsible for operating the NDIS. Its website can be visited at www.ndis.gov.au. When the NDIS is fully operational, an estimated 140,000 people in NSW will be able to access supports – this is an increase of approximately 50,000 Supply & InStall, Sand & polISh hardwood, BamBoo, lamInateS etc Call Tony on 0431 800 352 For a Free QuoTe st-flooring@live.com • www.sydtimberflooring.com.au CELEBRATE YOUR BIRTHDAY PARTY OR GROUP FUNCTION WITH US! The Eastern Suburbs Spectator/Times/Leader/Chronicle 18/9/15 Historic artwork finds home at Woollahra Woollahra Council Chambers is currently playing host to the historic artwork ‘Double Bay 1883’. Painted by celebrated artist and Archibald Prize winner Arthur Murch, the historic artwork is owned by the Double Bay Bowling Club and was commissioned in 1954 from an old photograph taken in the late 1880s. Until recently, the oil painting has hung proudly over the mantelpiece in the clubhouse; however, with the upgrading of the club’s facilities the artwork needed a new temporary home. The sheer size of the artwork (160cm x 227cm), made it difficult to find a space that could accommodate it. Rather than consigning the work to public auction, Double Bay Bowling Club approached Woollahra Council about housing the artwork at the Council Chambers. In a demonstration of community spirit and recognition of local history, the artwork now hangs at the top of the Chamber staircase alongside other historical works. Mayor Cr. Toni Zeltzer said, “It is an honour for our council to be the temporary custodians of Spring Clean Sale Now On at Sydney City Toyota Demonstrator and Used Cars - Choose From Over 100! Swimming at the beach is dangerous, so always swim between the red and yellow flags, avoid swimming alone and swim at patrolled beaches during patrolled hours," Mayor Seng said.
