Sexton all-state football standout Micajah Reynolds will take his considerable talents to Spartan Stadium this fall, and he got a head start on game conditioning and advanced blocking techniques. But it is the opportunity to make new friends and get to know young players from across the nation and around the world that seems to have impressed him the most. Reynolds and fellow incoming Spartan, Chris Norman, were members of the gold medal winning United States team in the inaugural International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Junior World Championship tournament held in Canton, Ohio. Team USA easily handled Former Spartan ends NFL career Ravens' senior vice president of public relations, Kevin Byrne. “After 12 years, I have done it all,” Mason is said to have told jocklife.com. “Right now , I am content with the decision I am making. All good things must come to an end, and I am ready to see what else life has to offer.” Mason, 35, started all 16 games for the Ravens last season, leading the team with 80 receptions and yards receiving with 1,037. He had 12 catches for 190 yards and a touchdown to lead Baltimore to the AFC championship round. Mason spent eight years with the Tennessee Titans and is the 31st NFL player to reach 10,000 career yards. Former Michigan State University wide receiver, Derrick Mason has stated his intention to retire after 12 seasons in the National Football League. The Associated Press reported that the Baltimore Ravens standout indicated that he would not return for the 2009 campaign. The Ravens who would be left with just two proven receivers, are hesitant to confirm the decision since Mason has yet to file the required letter of retirement with the NFL team. “For any player to retire, he must send a letter to the NFL stating this,” said the top-seeded Canada, 41-3 before a crowd of 15,473. “I absolutely loved this entire experience, Reynolds said after the final contest. “It wound up being an even greater experience than I had imagined. I loved the camaraderie with my teammates. I have made so many new friends that I intend to keep in touch with for years to come. After the championship game a player from New Zealand gave him a T-shirt and thanked him for hanging out with him and being a friend during the three weeks the teams were encamped during the tournament. There was plenty of football, however, as a top flight crew of high school coaches from around the nation put them through two-a-day practices on their way to a nine day stretch during which they played three games. Team USA advanced to the finals with a pair of shutout victories, beating France 78-0 in the opener, then toppled Mexico, 55-0. Canada whipped New Zealand, 55-0 and edged Japan, 38-35, to reach the championship game. tournament will give me a good head start,” Reynolds said going into tournament preparation. “I'll certainly be better prepared both mentally and physically for preseason camp.” Micajah Reynolds Reynolds, a 6-5 310-pound guard, played both guard positions for Team USA, which required him to learn the playbook for two positions and practice techniques for both sides of the offensive line. The experience should pay off as he seeks to break into the MSU playing group. He said that he tried to get a little better at each meeting and each practice in an effort to contribute to the team's success in the tournament and to use the experience as a means of preparing for the MSU fall camp. “I've heard that nothing can truly prepare me for Michigan State's preseason camp, but I do believe this Norman, was outstanding in the tournament. A 6-2 225pound All-American linebacker from Detroit Renaissance High School, Norman earned a spot on the IFAF Junior World Championship AllTournament team. He had eight tackles, two for losses during the tournament. “It was a great honor to lead the team out onto the field Serena Williams wins We m b l e d o n , Williams sisters win doubles title Following the foot steps of big sisterVenus, Serena Williams won a pair of Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon recently, just like Venus did in 2008. He echoed Reynolds feelings about the experience. “The experience was more than I had hoped for,” he said. “I met some great guys and built some friendships that will last a lifetime.
