Ms. Haifa: No, because jeans are not a formal dress code. Ms. Zainab M.: At the boy’s school can they wear shorts? Ms. Haifa: No, they aren't allowed to. Zainab M.: why can lower grades wear short skirts and not upper grades? Ms. Haifa: Because they’re little. Ms. Zainab: Can we wear 2 earrings? Ms. Haifa: yes, if they are small. DENIS’S ENGLISH CLASS Live my way Funny rainy day The big storm (A Haiku) Working…Working…. If I were a bird, Even just for a day, I’ll fly high and live my way. The land is rough, but dry The birds are sitting on the edge of the bay. They are calm, and I like their way The trees are scared The sky took off her blue coat The wind a madman All the time she is working Cooking, baking, and cleaning Never stops working, She’s my mom. If I were a bird, Even just for a day, I’ll spread happiness from July to May If I were a bird, Even just for a day, I’ll fly for peace and save the day. If I were a bird, Even just for a day, I’ll sing loudly saying what I should say. Poem by Zahra Al-Radhi Grade 7 We are playing, my sister and I. The clouds are full in the sky It started to rain, like tears from the sky. It sounds like a musical cry, And smells spicy, I don’t know why. The birds are afraid, and fly away. We play, and funny songs we say. The land is soft, but wet Like dough not cooked yet. Long day, I will not forget We had so much fun, and everything was done After dawn was gone Rains stopped, and again the sun shines. Poem by Juman Nouh Grade 7 Poem by Shahad Al Moshawer Grade 7 Waves Waves hit the rocks narrowly, Like the rays of the sun strikes. I’m standing on the bridge Where the fresh air is. Waves roll in, They crush the rocks. Bsh..Filling my heart with assurance Waves form, and sound, That is where my peaceful feeling is. Poem by Ghadeer Al Khalifa Grade 7 Teacher’s side: Compound Nouns and creative thinking. Grammar rule: A compound nouns is one noun made by joining two or more words. Compound nouns are written in three different ways: All the time he’s working Writing, calling, and sending Never stops working, He‘s my dad Poem by Zainab Al Mutawa Grade 7 The Snow! The snow fell today It’s more snow than yesterday I was walking in my way And my umbrella flew away. I ran to my house to make some fire I put more wood to make it higher I went outside when the storm went to sleep. Poem by Wojood Hassan Grade 7 Did you know ??? As single words, e.g. cross +bar = crossbar Week + end = weekend basket + ball = basketball Two or more separate words, e.g. baseball cap e.g. Chief Executive Officer As hyphenated words, e.g. by-product e.g. sister-in-law (Writing Coach, Grade 6, Chapter 13.1.5, page 300) The grade 7 Level 6 English class where very creative in naming the compound nouns as follows: The single word compound nouns they call “closed compound nouns”; The two or more separate word compound nouns they “open compound nouns” and Compound nouns formed with hyphens between the words are called “dash-compound nouns”. When we were checking the answers in the exercise, I was quite surprised and at first puzzled, with the responses of the students. I must have looked very strange to them. When it finally occurred to me that the above explanation is what they actually meant, I was really delighted to see that they had actually been very creative in naming something that could be quite difficult to remember. As a class we all agreed that from now on, when talking about compound nouns, they will be referred to as open -, closed – or dash- compound nouns. Well done grade 7s!!!! You have shown initiative, creative thinking and humor. Written by: Ms. Denise Louw (Grade 7 Level 6 English teacher) Did you know that anteaters live for only fourteen years? I picked a product called ( Crunchy Chocolate Muesli) and I had a bite. It’s a delicious mixture of rolled oats, wheat flakes, chocolate, coconut, and rice crispies. It tasted sweet and crunchy, similar to the taste of corn flakes. I brought some boiled milk and I mixed it with this organic product. Amazingly, it tasted like hot cereal. I think I would use this product again and I guarantee that chocolate lovers would recommend it. Crunchy Chocolate Muesli can be purchased for only 21.50 SR! I take a glass cup and filled it with a hot water, then I put the tea bag in the water about 10 minutes to be ready to drink it, then I put 1 and a half sugar spoon to be sweet. It taste good, like the normal tea but the normal tea is more sweet than the organic. Actually I will not use it again because I prefer the normal tea because it’s more sweet than the organic tea. The tea leaves may be opened and we put it in the water, or in a bag and we put the bag in the water, and it may be a red tea, green tea or a mint tea.
