Born and raised on a farm west of Brookhaven, Mississippi, Emmitt progressed from a rural depression-era childhood into the ranks of the leading American realists. Represented through the years by galleries in Chicago, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Jackson, Mississippi, and West Point, Mississippi, Emmitt’s watercolors, egg temperas, gouaches, and oils have found homes in all 50 states. His achievements include three one-man museum exhibitions and he has won many awards. His artwork hangs in museums, government, corporate, private and university collections. The University of Mississippi has purchased Mr. Thames’ work, as have Senators Thad Cochran and Trent Lott.
