2014 Ranger Odyssey Guide Adventure is calling once again as the Ranger Odyssey 2014 will take place from 7th-19th September and will see 20 courageous contestants battle the tough African environment in North-Western Namibia. This is a user friendly summary of the 2014 Ranger Odyssey competition. Use this guide as an information pack to make sure that you are knowledgeable about the competition. Ford’s Ranger Odyssey Africa 2014 competition is a South West Africa challenge that’ll see the Ranger put to the test in Africa’s most extreme terrain. Heat, dust and thousands of kilometres in some of Africa’s most awe-inspiring but technically tough routes await the 20 participants that will be chosen from the public to take part in the adventure. The 20 participants will be divided into 10 groups of 2 where the 2 participants from the winning team will get to drive an Odyssey Ranger for a year. When is the Ranger Odyssey taking place? The Ranger Odyssey starts on 8 September and ends on 19 September. Questions & Answers Where is the Ranger Odyssey going? The 2014 Odyssey will take place in the Kaokoland in Namibia. Will the competition continue beyond the Africa trip? The Ranger Odyssey competition includes another phase where the public will have the chance to win fantastic prizes by staying engaged throughout the competition. For further details on this competition please check the Ranger Odyssey website: www.rangerodyssey.com. The website will be live in the middle of June. Questions & Answers What is the entry fee? There is no entry fee. The entry mechanism will be online and free of charge. Where can I obtain further information on the Ranger Odyssey? Entries will open from 01st July 2014 and entrants can visit www.rangerodyssey.com to enter. You can also follow us on Twitter (@FordSouthAfrica) using the #RangerOdyssey hashtag. We will also be updating Facebook regularly (www.facebook.com/FordSouthAfrica and www.facebook.com/FordRanger). If you have any further questions do not hesitate to post them on our Facebook site. Competition Mechanics PHASE 1- Call to Action (01 July-20 July) The process kicks off with a call to action on 01st July 2014 during which aspirant adventurers are invited to submit an online entry via the Ranger Odyssey website (www.rangerodyssey.com). The campaign is supported by national adverts on radio and television, as well is in print and social media. Entries close on 20 July. PHASE 2- Visit your Dealer (01 August- 10 August) Once the entry has been registered on the website, the applicants will be asked to visit their local Ford Dealership and take a ‘selfie’ photograph with the Odyssey-edition Ford Ranger and post it on the Odyssey website. Applicants will also need to motivate in a short paragraph why they deserve to be on the 2014 Ranger Odyssey. Phase 2 ends on the 10 August when all valid applicants who have completed phase 1 and 2 will now be screened by a panel of judges who then select a final 40 contestants for Phase 3. Competition Mechanics PHASE 3 - Boot camp (22 August – 24 August) The top 40 finalists will attend a gruelling Boot camp training and assessment session which takes place at De Rust Outdoor near Hartbeespoort Dam, home to Ford’s official Off-Road Driving Academy. Here the contestants will be given 4x4 theory and practical training and put through their paces for 3 days in Off-road Driving, Teamwork, Brand awareness, Endurance/Obstacle Courses, and ultimately judged to select the final 20. PHASE 4- Main event (7 September- 19 September) Only the 20 finalists will make their way to Kaokoland from 7 to 19 September. The roughly 2 500 km route encompasses some of Namibia’s most spectacular and arduous terrain, including the notorious Van Zyl’s Pass and the famous Purros Loop renowned for its desert elephants. Unlike last year where the contestants competed on an individual basis, for the 2014 Ranger Odyssey they will be paired up in teams of two. The 10 teams will be evaluated and scored throughout the trip by the judges. Support Material An Odyssey dealer display toolkit is being developed to support you as you take part in the Odyssey action. The plan is that all dealers send the EDM to their database. WEBSITE BANNERS These banners can be placed on Dealer websites. PULL UP BANNERS Pull up banner creative has been developed and those who want to print banners for the showroom are welcome to do so. Participating Dealers Registered competition entrants across the country will be asked to visit their local Ford Dealership and take a ‘selfie’ photograph with the Odyssey-edition Ford Ranger and post it on the Odyssey website. VEHICLE BRANDING • The vehicles will be branded along the bonnet and sides before delivery to your dealership takes place. PLEASE NOTE: The decals applied on the vehicle have a 3 year warranty. • It is advisable for dealers to add dealership contact details to the vehicles. The items will also be available for you to sell going forward. Odyssey Merchandise Media Investment We anticipate to at least equal, if not exceed, media coverage obtained last year. Ford has committed to backing the campaign with additional advertising including a national television campaign in July for the call to entry phase of the competition, print and digital exposure.
