The Supreme Building Authority represents all state interests in building in Bavaria at a ministerial
level. It is an organisational unit within the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior. The department
″Roads and Bridges″ is one of six departments of the Supreme Building Authority, Building and Transport.

Tasks and Responsibilities
The Bavarian Road Administration plans, improves, operates and maintains
the motorways and major roads in Bavaria. It is responsible for a road
network with a total length of 25,500 km, about 14,500 bridges and 61
tunnels and more than 6,000 km of bicycle path. The annual building investments in Federal motorways, Federal roads and State roads amount to
more than 1,2 billion Euros. In addition municipal road projects are funded
by the Bavarian Government with about 200 million Euros every year.
The wide range of responsibilities of the
Bavarian Road Administration comprises:
• Programmes for the expansion of the motorways and major road network
• Traffic surveys and planning
• Environmental impact assessment and special spatial planning procedures
• Development and construction of roads, bridges and tunnels
• Maintenance of roads and bridges
• Routine maintenance and operation services, including winter service
• Noise mitigation
• Traffic and tunnel safety
