December 3rd, Ryan Dillman and Forrest Wigington competed in the District 8 4-H Food Show Contest and both placed first in their categories. In the District 8 4-H Food Challenge Contest, Elizabeth Bailey, Taylor Bailey and Isaiah Flores placed first in their category as well! These 5 seniors all advance to the Texas 4-H Roundup held in College Station at Texas A&M University in June. Other 4-H members who participated in the District 8 4-H Food Challenge Contest were: Emily Stovall, Parker Jackson, Kelly Williams, Melissa Pinchback, Tessa Butler, Lisa Whiteside, Caroline Mousner, Rachel Hacker, Madison DePugh, Hope Llewellyn, Ally Bates, Logan Stallings and Jennifer Kornegay. Jan 21st– County Council Mtg, 6:30pm, Grand Jury Room. Jan 23rd– NCYE and HLSR Poultry Orders Arrive. Feb 8th– CDM Contest and Nutrition Quiz Bowl Registration due to the Extension Office. Feb 9th– CDM Contest, Location TBA. Feb 12th– Rabbit Clinic, Chatfield Community Center, 6:30pm. Feb 17th– Shooting Sports, 2pm, Sheriff’s Dept Shooting Range. Feb 21st– NCYE Meat Pen Validation, 6-8pm in Small Vernon Room at the Expo Center. Feb 21st– All NCYE Rabbit Entries, Food and Creative Arts entries due to CEA or Extension Office. MAJOR STOCK SHOW & NCYE INFORMATION: Page 2 FYI: 2013 NCYE– March 18th– 24th Please visit http://www.navarroexpocenter.com/default.aspx?ID=6424 for the NCYE validation forms. Please fill out the validation form before you get to the Expo. This will make things a lot easier on you. ENTRIES: The County Extension Agent will be at every validation to take early entries. It is HIGHLY suggested that you go ahead and fill out an entry form and pay the same day as validation. This way you do not have to take extra time out of your schedule to go up to the courthouse to turn in entries. Entry forms can be found online at: http://www.navarroexpocenter.com/default.aspx? Food Challenge Contest and Judging Contest Information: If you are planning on participating in any of the judging contest or Food Challenge @ the NCYE then your team must sign up with Emily by Feb 28th. You will not receive an excused absences from school if you have not entered these contest. 2013 Major Stock Show Update: Attention all parents and exhibitors: Academic Eligibility will be verified one week before the animal is due to arrive at the stock show. Those exhibitors that are not passing by UIL standards will not be permitted to show! No exceptions! This is not the CEA’s problem, you must take it up with the school and/or principal. Page 4 4-H RABBIT CLINIC Come out to the Chatfield Community Center for a Rabbit Clinic put on by 4-H Livestock Mentors and senior 4-H members. Bring your meat pens and breeding rabbits so you can get your tattoos put in before rabbit validation. February 12th at 6:30pm. Texas 4-H State Photography Contest http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/photography_contest Follow this link to the state photography contest for rules and information! Deadline to enter online is: April 15th! County Roundup! This year County Roundup will be on March 1st at 6pm. Location is TBA soon!!! Roundup Events include the following: - Educational Presentations & Public Speaking: (use to be called Illustrated Talks) —> Can be in any project area: (Agronomy, Beef, Clothing & Textiles, Companion Animals, Computer Technology, Food & Nutrition, Health, Horse, Horticulture, Meat Science, Promote 4-H, Sheep and/or Goats, and a few more!) - Share the Fun —> Categories include the following: Poetry & Prose, Vocal, Musical, Solo/Band Performance, Choreographed Routines, and Celebrate 4-H. Clothing & Textiles Contest: This year at District Competition there will be Fabric and Fashion Design Competition, Fashion Show Stage, Design Competition, Fashion Show Narrator Contest. The Clothing & Textiles Educational Presentations will be held at District Roundup. FASION STORYBOARD: The purpose of the Fashion Storyboard contest is to give 4-H members who are a part of the Clothing and Textiles project area an opportunity for the individual to apply, synthesize, and evaluate the knowledge of fabrics and the elements and principles of design. It also provides the individual an opportunity to develop knowledge of the career responsibilities of a designer and a fashion illustrator, enhance personal presentation, and verbal and non-verbal and non-verbal communication skills, resulting in a successful presentation board. 4-H members must submit a storyboard on the day of the contest that provides a solution to the design brief. Page 5 Senior 4-H Scholarships Make sure to look on the Navarro County Expo Website to find the Navarro County Go Texas Scholarship Application and instructions. Also, the Texas 4-H Scholarships are due to the Extension Office on February 1st. They will be sent in on February 5th to the District Specialist.
