Potentate’s Message
Elected Divan By Ill. Sir Ken Harrelson
My Fellow Nobles,
Well I am down to my last article. It has been an interesting
year with a wide range of things going on. As we look forward
to the years ahead and what we can do, the sky is the limit. Just sit back for a minute
and think of the amount of Friends that you have made here and what you have done
to help some of them, the fun you have had with them and what has been done for
the Children in our Hospitals. Wow, it’s awesome to be a Shriner. People are asking,
what are you going to do with your time now? Well, all I can say is I will put a lot of
time on those cruise ships and finish wearing out my motorcycle, and my Grandkids,
oh wow, going to really enjoy them.
Ill Sir Ken Harrelson Potentate
I really want to express how thankful I am to all of you that stepped up and took part
in Bahia this year. You are what makes Bahia, not the Potentate, he is your leader
but he has to have all of you to make it go. You were all awesome, thank you. To
have been able to work with and for all of you again was awesome and again, I can’t
thank all of you enough for all you did this year.
We are so fortunate to have FSA here in May and Imperial in July in Tampa then in
2017 and 2018 right here in our front yard, (Daytona). If you have not been to FSA
or to an Imperial session you are missing a wonderful time. You meet a lot of people
from the other Temples, attend competition, eat well and just have a whole lot of
fun. It’s a good vacation.

Dinner Meeting - 2nd Monday - 6 pm
Business Meeting - Last Monday - 7 pm
My Fellow Nobles,
First, I want to wish you all a Happy, Healthy and
Prosperous New Year.
All Nobles and Ladies are Welcome to Join US!
That being said, I want to thank all the Nobles who have supported
me during my time as Editor.
I have been asked to stay on as Editor for the 2016-2017 year but I
honestly just don’t have the time necessary with all of my other
Personal, Business and Masonic obligations to keep doing the
magazine.
I have let our incoming Potentate know that the February-March Issue
will be my last as Editor. This doesn’t mean that I won’t be involved
with the Shrine. I was the Vice President of the Ritual Unit this year
and will be for 2016 and serve as High Priest and Prophet at the
Ceremonials here at Bahia.
With all the Personal, Business and Masonic obligations I have over
the next couple of years I still am able to even get a couple of hours of
sleep a night. Not that I am expect much sleep after June because in
June, Debbie and I will become Grandparents for the 1st time. But
with my plate as full as it is, I needed to let something go. This had to
be it. If someone wishes to take my place, please contact Potentate
Elect, Jon Thomas Gumina. I will be happy to assist you with all the
templates and graphics I have compiled.
On a different note, check out Page 20. If your name is not listed, you
really need to call Stephanie in the office or Fill out the form on page
15 to renew or become a Booster for the Caravan.

My Fellow Nobles,
My Fellow Nobles,
I sincerely thank the nobility for electing me to the highest office of
Bahia. I will do my best to represent OUR Shrine with the dignity
and prestige Bahia deserves. We have never in Bahia history been
more challenged. We, your divan, are up to making the challenges
we face work, not only this year, but for years to follow. Again
thank you for all your kind words; but now is the time we need
people who are ready to roll up their sleeves and get the job done. It
took us years to get in the position we are in currently, and it’s going
to take some time for us to put things back together. I look forward
to your suggestions and involvement. Speaking of involvement,
committees have been working on the sale of the building. We are
meeting every two weeks to review options and offers. If you
would like to attend, the meetings are open to the nobility as an
observer. You can call the office for information regarding the next
date and location of the meeting.
**** YOUR 2016 DUES ARE DUE; PLEASE SEND YOUR
CHECK ****
Our Circus is underway. We have secured Hanniford who has
always given us a first class circus. John Stewart will be getting
information out to the nobility after the holidays. The Circus will be
at Silver Spurs once again. Dates are already set and tickets are
printed. Tickets will be mailed out shortly. Last year we received
only a little over 300 Circus Dad checks. We hope to do a lot better
this year. PLEASE send in your check for the Circus Dad tickets.
These tickets can be used by a child or an adult.
Our 2016 clothing (shirts, ties, name badges, etc.) will distributed on
January 3 at the Pancake Breakfast. Should you be unable to pick
up your order on January 3, you will be able to do so in the front
office for the remainder of the week. We will begin wearing our
2016 clothing following my installation as Potentate.
Yours in service,
Jon Thomas Gumina
I want to thank all of the Nobles for their trust, confidence and
support allowing me to be your Chief Rabban for 2016. I could not
have made it this far without you. My lady Stephanie and I look
forward to serving you and representing the Temple. Special thanks
to all the nobles that came out to the YOUTH SHRINE FOOBALL
GAME. It was held December 5th at Oveido High School. We had a
great showing. The Keystone Kops gave the kids a special treat
before the game with a private ride around the track. The Directors
Staff, Iron Horses and Motorcycle Unit filled the rest of the track
during the parade at half-time.
I hope everyone had a safe holiday season. I would like to remind
everyone to attend the installation for 2016 on Jan 10th. I have heard
J.T. and Kathy have some added things to the Parade of Units so
come out and see something special. Please visit your blue lodges as
they have installations of officers as well. I will be attending a few
and I hope to see you there.
Now we must get back to work and start spreading the word about
what Shriners do for the community. Our first big public event is the
East West Shrine Game. It is less than 2 hours from our Temple and
is always a great event. We get a lot of publicity from this game and I
hope each and everyone can attend. Tickets are still available. Go to
www.shrinegame.com and you can see a detailed list of all of the
events. The tailgate party for Shriners and guests is always a great
way to start the pregame festivities. Food and beverages are
available for donations from 11:30am-3pm. If you can’t make it plan
to watch the game with a few friends at home or at our temple in the
Red Fez. The game is held on Jan. 23rd at 4pm.
The building committee and the Divan are working hard to make
sure we put Bahia on track for the future. Please attend the meetings
so you can stay informed. Sometimes people are given incorrect
information and we would like to make sure you receive the correct
information. Only way to get it is at the meetings.
Congratulations to all Divan, Officers and appointed members on
your position for 2016.

Happy New Year Brothers.
Happy New Year Everyone!
I first want to start off by thanking everyone for trusting me to be
your Assistant Rabban for 2016. It is a great honor and privilege to
be part of such an amazing team. Ill. Sir. Kenny and his Lady Sam
did an amazing job in 2015 and we need to keep up the hard work.
They have set the bar very high for us in the Divan. It goes without
saying that they put their lives on hold a second time to see us
through some tough times. Thank you again for all your hard work
and dedication.
I want to thank the nobility for electing me as your High Priest
and Prophet for 2016. I am looking forward to serving as best
I can. I want to help move the temple forward in a positive
direction. We are in for some work as we sell this building and
move into one more suited for our size and needs. I know if
we come together as nobles we can make this an easy
transition.
I was just reminded by our Caravan Editor how important
communication amongst the Nobility is especially now and I could
not agree more. This year will bring changes. Many of us will
possibly move, take the vacation of a lifetime or begin retirement.
Communication comes in many forms and I was raised with the
values of open and honest discussion. I encourage you to visit a
Divan meeting or a Trustees meeting if you ever have any questions
or ideas that can help make a positive change to our Fraternity. We
want to be as transparent to our membership as possible when it
comes to our future goals and actions. This Fraternity is built on our
Masonic beliefs and understanding that every member has an equal
vote. We need to start the year off on a positive note and understand
that Bahia is, and will always be here to stay.
I want to thank everyone that worked the Pancake Breakfast
last year. We had lots of fun and served lots of pancakes. We
also made some money for the general fund.
As we look towards the future, I want to continue to ensure all of
you that many hard working people are putting their best foot
forward to make 2016 a success. I would like to congratulate all the
newly elected offers from Bahia BSC’s and Units as well as all of
our appendant bodies. We plan on working hard to visit as many
Blue Lodges in 2016 as possible to help support the 16th, 17th and
18th Districts. Being a Shrine Mason it is more important now than
ever to help spread the good work we do for our Hospitals.
It is very difficult in these times we live to be an “active” member of
20 groups. For those of you who are skilled enough to do that, I
hope that somewhere along the line you bring up SHRINE
MEMBERSHIP in your organizations. Membership is the key to our
success. Not only Bahia, but every organization struggles with this
issue. I long for the day when Master Masons are beating down our
doors for a petition. Will this happen soon, probably not. But we
have so many new and exciting things planned ahead of us in the
next four years. A possible new location, Imperial in 2017 and 2018,
and a group of dedicated men willing to step up and continue on the
tradition of excellence that Bahia has exemplified for more than 50
years.
Brothers, I wish to you and your family a bright and prosperous
New Year. I ask that FUN, FRATERNITY, MEMBERSHIP and
HELPING CHILDREN be on your minds and in your hearts.
Yours in the Faith,
Ian Ielfield, Lady Deana and Princess Riley
See you soon,
Noble Trey Rapp

NOBLE TRUCKERS
The Villages Shrine Club
By Mr. Goodegg
By Noble Bob Moynihan
Here it is another year coming up and I am not sure if we are done
with 2015 yet. Hey! I want everyone to know the Noble Truckers
are now 20 years old. Way back on June 20, 1995, we received our
Charter. It has been a wonderful 20 years and I am sure all the
present members think the same?
2016 is nearly here! With that comes a new set of officers to be
installed for The Villages Shrine Club. The new 2016 officers are:
Our first Christmas Parade was at Winter Garden in 1995. That
parade was held in the mid-morning. Our second parade was held in
Deland the same day at 5:00 PM. Our first Imperial Parade was in
“New Orleans”, and our second Imperial was at Celebration, right
here in Florida.
Yours truly is the only charter member left out of the original
twelve that started. We have 14 members at the present time. Things
have changed over the 20 years. There are no “T” Model trucks left
in the unit. Yours truly was the last one to sell. Most of the Trucks
are still in Parades, except now they are known as “Tin Lizzie's.” I
know the Truckers have been pretty busy so far in 2015. We have
been getting out collecting for the Hospitals and Burn Centers every
Wednesday and quite a few weekend gigs also. The weather has
cooperated all year, so we didn't get interrupted much at all. I am
sure we will hit $ 35,000.00 this year.
One thing we did not do this year was work the “Volusia County
Fair and Youth Show” at the Fairgrounds, in November. There are
just so many hours we can work and it takes over 110 hours to work
the Fair. This is the first time we have not worked the Fair in 20
years. I know I really missed it, and I am sure the rest did also. The
last three years there has been a performer, by the name of “Dennis
Lee', who was an asset to the Truckers and the Shrine Hospitals, as
he would invite me up and introduce me to his audience, as a
Shriner, and tells them to get their wallets & purses out and I would
go out among them and collect the funds, for the Hospitals. In the
15 minutes or so I would collect over $200.00. The people would
actually chase me down to give me money. I was able to do this for
at least one of his two shows, a night, most of the nights. We, the
Truckers made him an honorary member of the “Noble Truckers.”
He apologized to me for not being able to attend any of our
meetings. I got a chance to go over to the Fairgrounds one night,
this year, and collected for the Hospitals, He saw me and had me up
to introduce me and got them to donate to me. I in about 8 minutes I
collected over $165.00
It seems like the Truckers are getting older every year? I guess it is
better than the alternative? Three or four of them are still driving the
kids to Tampa Hospital. If you go over to the Tampa Hospital, be
sure and check out the “Donor Wall,” in the lobby, you will find our
donor plaque, right up there with the big donors. Also check out the
“Drivers resting area.” You will find the large TV that we donated
to the Drivers room located there.
The Truckers have changed their meeting day to the second
Thursday of the month, at 9:00 AM. We meet at various restaurants,
in and around DeLand and Orange City. If you would like to join us,
just call the President, Danny Gainin. His number is in the Calendar
book handed out each year to all BAHIA members. We would be
proud to have you visit us at any time.

Installation will be at 7:00 pm, 12 January 2016 in the Orchid Room
of the Hibiscus Recreation Center, The Villages, FL. The Potentate
of Bahia and members of the Divan have been invited to attend, so
mark your calendar and plan on being there. The Club’s regular
meetings are on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Orchid Room
of the Hibiscus Recreation Center, The Villages, Florida. Happy
hour and food start at 6:00 pm and the meeting starts at 7:00 pm.
Attire is always casual, with Fez. All Shriners and their Ladies and
guests are welcome.
A few words from the incoming President, Noble Brother Bob
Collins:
We have a great leadership team in place for 2016 and The Villages
Shrine Club will continue its tradition of strong support to Bahia
Shrine Center and the Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa,
while enjoying our Fraternal fellowship locally. Much of the success
of 2015 is due to the hard work of our Al Kora Shrine Ladies, and
Noble Brother Gerry Vannienwenhove, 2015 President. Lady Judy
Chaffin served as president of Al Kora, who meet at the Cottage Inn
Restaurant, RT 27/441, Fruitland Park, FL on the 4th Tuesday of each
month at 10:30 am (except December), guiding the ladies to
successful fundraisers that included a garage sale, White House
Christmas Ornament sale, money and lottery tree raffles, bus trip to
Tampa Hospital, luncheons at local restaurants, a Melon Patch
Theatre production and cookie sale, the results of which raised
$8,000.00 for the Shriners Hospital for Children Transportation Fund
and was presented to Illustrious Sir Ken Harrelson at the November
2015 meeting of the Villages Shrine Club. Noble Gerry led the club
in numerous, successful fundraisers such as the paper drive and the
annual golf tournament raising, in combination with Al Kora Ladies,
a total of $59,000.00. A very special thank you to Plaza Cadillac and
all the other sponsors who made the golf tournament a complete
success. I am always available at BobCollins45@mac.com or 352391-7081.

Director’s Staff
Provost Guard
By Noble Robert Kouba, President
By L.P. Brown
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and New Year’s.
This will be my last Caravan letter as President of the Directors Staff, and I
have definitely enjoyed my year; it has gone by faster than I wanted but it was
a very gratifying year. It was an honor being able to work with the nobles as
we supported the Shrine. The respect that I received from all was not
expected but well accepted. I would like to let the new President, Frank Kroll,
know that the staff and officers will support him and the shrine throughout the
year as they did me. I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of
this year’s events for those who may have missed a few.
The Provost Guard was instituted in 1955. The Provost
Guard was for assisting the Potentate to assure the safety
and welfare of Bahia’s Nobility. Performing police
duties at stated meetings, Rentals, Ceremonials, parades,
conventions and other Shrine functions
I want to first thank Ill Sir Ken Harrelson and his Lady Sam for a fantastic
2015; both of them started their year with a goal in mind and as their game
plan is coming to an end, I am confident that the transition with the ball will
be handed off towards the goal without being fumbled. We were fortunate to
have seasoned veterans guide us through the many disappointing and heart
breaking decisions these two had to make. I came into the Shrine during Ill
Sir Ken Harrelson 2012 year and it was a pleasure being elected President of
the Director’s staff during his 2015 year.
The Unfashion Fashion show was a blast. I believe the models went above
and beyond, you could smell the pheromones in the air or maybe the Fez door
was propped open, not really sure? These hairy legged models so gracefully
attempted a two tiered platform stage in heels which added another form of
amusement to the already entertaining show. What’s that phrase “going up is
fun but coming down is better”. If you attend another one of these in the
future you will want to sit away from the stage, distance is your friend, if you
know what I mean. The spaghetti this year was prepared by Tom Lucas and
was a big hit, I believe seconds were had by all.
The Provost Guards are looking for a few good men to
assist in the Shrine functions to help secure our fine
building and property, if your interested please contact.

Meetings on the 4th Monday
of each month in Unit Room
A.
The Crash-O-Rama was a great time, if you get a chance, make it a point to
thank Shawn and Christine and their huge support staff for their hard work,
they earned it. When it was our turn to enter the oval track to parade, it was
exciting as we pulled in and started the left turn, we took up half the track
once we were all on the oval, then we looked up and saw 40,000 spectators
cheering. We settled down after a couple of laps to the center of the track
alongside the Drum and Burgle Corp who did a great job with the National
Anthem. After the anthem was finished the crowd started cheering, but the
big surprise was when Taps was performed. WOW! Everybody froze and it
they crowd was dead silent. Great job!!
The December stated meeting was well attended, the vote went as planned, all
of the Divan had moved up, except for Jim Batenchuk and his Lady Lee who
had decided to remove themselves from the appointed Divian position for
personal reasons. You will be missed in the Divine line, but Jim and Lady
Lee will still be a big part of the Shrine. We are looking for our newly elected
Potentate Ill Sir Gumina and his Lady Kathy to take over in January. I believe
they will be very democratic in making sure that they listen to all and decide
on the best path for this Shrine. I will have to say that Trey Rapp could have
done a better job following the suit case during the Stated Meeting, I heard
the cost went up from $500.00 to $700.00 to locate this suit case? Good Luck.
3rd Thursday Monthly
6:30 PM Steak Dinner / 7:30 PM Meeting
Unit Room “B”
The EW Youth Bowl started with all the teams and families enjoying
breakfast at the Shrine, FYI the grits did not need a thing they were perfect.
The game was great a lot of action but low scoring. The half time parade went
off without a hitch with Mitch Lokken at the helm supervising us like a
skilled conductor. The paddy wagon was giving rides to the families and it
looked like they were having a good time; he kept the children in the back
locked up and the mothers rode up front.
The Director’s Staff Christmas party was a big success and the turnout was
great. Lynn did a great job with the table and room decorations, Thelma was
the bar keep and made sure all were well hydrated. The food and desserts
were enjoyed by all. Our after dinner Chinese gift exchange was a hit. The
MC for the gift exchange was JT Gumina and as always his little helper was
PP Sid Massy who offered kind and helpful suggestions to the nervous gift
selectors.

Past patient gives back by
spreading holiday cheer
Dustin Muirhead is no stranger to the Shriners Hospitals for Children
mission of bringing Love to the rescue. As a child, he was a patient at
Shriners Hospitals for Children — Erie after being involved in a lawn
mower accident. The Erie Shriners Hospital provided Muirhead with
prosthetic and rehabilitation care that has brought him to where he is
today – a deputy with the Charlotte County Sherriff's Office.
With the holidays around the corner, Muirhead knew he wanted to do
something special to make an impact in the community. Being a
Shriners kid himself, he set his sights on Shriners Hospitals for
Children — Tampa.
An que Cars BSC President ‐ Dr. Ken Vehec 407‐760‐6869 Dr.ken@a .net On Dec. 5, Santa’s elves arrived not by sleigh, but by motorcycle and
sporting leather attire. These elves were comprised of current and past
law enforcement officials from Charlotte and Hillsborough Counties.
The Motorcycle Toy Run was definitely a highlight of the holiday
season for our patients and families. It was also a rewarding
experience for the motorcyclists, hospital staff and volunteers who
saw the children’s faces light up as the motorcycles cruised through
the front parking lot with presents strapped on back.
Thank you to Muirhead and all of our community supporters who rode
in the toy run for our kids. What a wonderful way to send your Love
to the rescue and spread holiday cheer!

Legion of Honor
By Noble Tracy Coughlin, Past Commander
7th Lt Commander, IALOH
During the October meeting the unit voted on the 2016 Line Officers for Bahia LOH. Congratulations to the following elected officers:
Commander Jim “Cookie” Judovitz, 1st Lt Commander Tracy “Zoomer” Coughlin, Finance Officer Karl “Short Round” Stimson, and
Adjutant Bob “Short Straw” Miller. Good luck to all because we’re going to need it with these “oafficers”! And congratulations to now
Junior Past Commander Jerry “Boss Hog” Strickland for a great year of leadership and fun, except for that time you un-expectantly fell out
of ranks…
The December Stated Meeting dinner was served by the LOH and we had great support from Nobles, Ladies and Widows. It’s great to see
our widows participating and we always welcome them to our events. Cookie and Lady Sandi “Fry Baby” did an outstanding job preparing a
delicious stroganoff meal and the rest of the skirts had some awesome desserts. Boss Hog passes along his sincerest thanks to all for a job
well done.
We had a great time at the Introduction and Installation of the new officers during the December unit meeting. I’m afraid it’s going to be a
long year with this cast of characters. And anything you can do to support or prop up these officers will be appreciated. The C-rations were
a little tough to choke down but based on the tight fit of everyone’s uniform, they had no problem eating. Remember, we still have
vacancies for the 2nd & 3rd Lt. Commander slots and volunteers are needed. Please give it some consideration before you get drafted.
Our next unit meetings will be on January 15th and February 19th beginning with a social hour at 1800 hours followed by dinner and then the
usual boring meeting by the command staff. Don’t forget that the February meeting is our Ladies Night, so fella’s, get yourself a haircut,
shave, put on a clean uniform and take your lady out for a night on the town! More info to follow once Commander Cookie figures out what
he’s doing.
Lastly, I’m still looking for activity ideas we can do during our unit meetings. If you rely on me coming up with them, you might regret it.
I’m currently thinking about a spud peeling contest and a GI party for the unit room, neither of which you’ll want to participate in if we can
find something better.
And remember, “IT’S AN HONOR TO BELONG TO THE LEGION OF HONOR”
Riding with the Motorcycle Unit
By Kevin Clarke, Motorcycle Unit Scribe
Hello Nobles!
I want to first thank all the Nobles, their Ladies and Guests for
attending the 13th Annual Lo-Boil. It was a Great Success and I
hope everyone had a great time.
My gratitude goes out to the Unit for making me a Lifetime Member.
It's an honor to be recognized by such a wonderful group of Nobles.
At the writing of this article, it's been learned of the passing of Noble
Roger Price. Roger was a longtime and valued member of the
Motorcycle Unit. He will be sorely missed. Our prayers go out to
Lady Carolyn and family.
The Motorcycle Unit always meets on the 3rd Thursday of every
month in Unit B. We serve a prime rib dinner at 6:30 and meet at
7:30 .All Nobles are welcome to come.
Finally, I hope everyone has a Healthy and Happy New Year!!!

Athaliah Temple No. 114
Daughters of the Nile
By Lillian Rodgers, Past Queen
October was a memorable month for Athaliah Temple. At our Stated Session we held a ceremonial and welcomed a brand new Princess.
Our ceremonials are always very special to all of us and this one was done beautifully by Queen Barbara and her officers. On October 22nd
we held our annual White Rose Tea honoring the Past Queens of our order. Princess Royal, Jacque Muladore did a wonderful job with the
Tea and made all the Past Queens feel very special indeed.
In November we celebrated Daughters of the Nile Founders Day and Queen Barbara read the Proclamation dated October 30, 1913 to all of
us during our Stated Session. This is a very special day for us as we celebrate over 100 years of history of Daughters of the Nile.
Preparations have been ongoing for our visit from our Supreme Queen, Sharon St. John on January 8. There will be a luncheon prior to our
ceremonial at Eola Masonic Lodge. We expect a very large class of new members being brought into Athaliah at the ceremonial and we are
very excited by that. Our banquet that evening will be held at Bahia Shrine Center. It should be a very good day for all of us and we are
eagerly awaiting our visit by SQ Sharon.
Princess Tirzah, Linda Fennell is planning a Country Fried Steak Dinner to take place at Eola Masonic Lodge in early March. There will be a
flyer in the near future with all information but please feel free to contact Linda for information at 407-423-1288 or email her at
linfennell@gmail.com. This event is a fund raising event and is open to everyone so you need not be a member to attend. Come on out and
join us for a wonderful afternoon and a great dinner made with love by PQ Peggy Rouse.
If you would like to become a Daughter of the Nile and share in the fun, camaraderie and the rewards of this worthwhile organization, please
feel free to call Pr. Priscilla Dill our Membership Chairman at 352-483-0634, our Princess Recorder PQ Peggy Rouse at 407-892-4412, or
contact any member for information. We would love to meet you and have you join in on all the fun we have.
Athaliah Temple meets every third Thursday (except June, July and August) at Eola Masonic Lodge, 3200 East Grant Street, Orlando,
Florida 32806. We have a luncheon provided by our clubs, units and various groups beginning at 11:30 AM followed by our Stated Session
at 12:30 PM.

Report on Crash A Rama
By Noble Shawn and Lady Christine White
After months and months of preparation, marketing and promotion, Black Friday was once again upon us. We started out the day by
meeting up in the Bahia parking lot, loading up our cars, trailers and trucks with every imaginable tool, bolt and screw we could
gather. Off we drove in a caravan of trailers, pickups and excited crew and as we made our way on I-4 through downtown we met
with many stares, honks and thumbs up. We almost felt like we were already parading! A wonderful start to the day to remind us of
the reason we all volunteer our time, talents and efforts.
This was a year of many firsts for us. The first time we sold advance tickets, first time we sold team shirts and the first time we had
special reserved seating among other fantastic firsts to follow. Upon arriving at the track, the crew immediately started getting to
work to finish prepping the cars including welding, painting, stickering, removing glass and testing the cars. As our nobility started to
arrive it became apparent that all of our efforts had paid off! The parade staging area was overflowing with participants. Dave and
Jenny Taylor brought their RV for tailgating and provided a huge spread of goodies to enjoy while we waited to parade. Kevin and
Annette Fender also brought their RV and welcomed all to come sit, eat and share good times. Special thanks goes out to both of
these families for going above and beyond to make it comfortable for everyone.
At 7pm, we lined up to enter the track and we then truly realized how fantastic our presence was. We had Director’s Staff, Iron
Horses, Fun & Frolic, Motorcycle Unit, Racing Saints, the Crash Team vehicles, Tin Lizzes, LOS Kismet Court as well as members
of the Drum & Bugle Corp with the assistance of members of Impact Orlando! Drum & Bugle Corps. People in the stands cheered
and children giggled at the “little cars.” As usual, the Sphinx car was a fan favorite! As we paraded around the track twice, our
musicians made their way towards the grandstand. We were treated to the National Anthem played in a way that Crasharama has not
heard before. Following a moment of silence, the lone trumpeter played TAPS to the crowd. I looked up into the stands and found
several servicemen towards the press box, standing and saluting. That’s when I knew that we had absolutely connected to this crowd.
The pit crew came alive and rushed to do last minute preps to the cars before entry to the first race: checking oil, tire pressure, adding
coolant…but we forgot to add some gas to Shawn’s car! On the second lap, Shawn’s car puttered to a stop. The mini-van kept going
and did really well! We rescued Shawn and filled him with gas to get ready for the next race. Throughout the night, we raced and the
crowd went wild with screams and laughter. Once again, the school bus figure-8 race was the most anticipated and had so many close
calls. The giant Fez on the back of the car, tassel flying in the wind, has become one of our mascots. Our other Mascot, Mabelline,
made her traditional appearance in the trailer race. She was strapped inside a port-a-potty with wheels when she went flying into a
wall. She was a good mascot until she met her end. Or did she?
During the events, we sold 50/50 tickets and the Director’s Staff raffled off a Booze Wagon. In a lucky turn of events, the man who
won the Booze Wagon donated it back to us so that we might be able to raise more money at our next event. We have been very
lucky over the years to have people donate prizes and cash back to us and this year turned out to be no different. Special thanks to
Steve Brick and Lady Brandie, Mark and Terri Zikefoose, Mitch & Steph Lokken for help with the ticket sales.
As the night ended, the discussion shifted. While we did not win any of the races, we realized that Bahia won something far more
important. We introduced more of the public to what we do as an organization. We brought nobles, ladies, families and friends
together to have fun and work towards the common goal. We had the largest parade Bahia has done at Crasharama! We introduced
the public to more of our units and clubs, showing how diverse our membership is. We answered questions on what it means to be a
Mason, a Shriner, and a Lady. We met families of former patients who wanted nothing more than to say thank you. We’ve
accomplished so much this year and believe that we can continue to grow. In the coming months, we hope to hear that our efforts
paid off with referrals of new patients as it has in past years.
There are dozens and dozens of people to which we owe a huge THANK YOU! Early planning stages for the 2016 Crasharama are
underway and some new ideas and surprises are already in the works. We would love to have you with us on the journey and wish
you the very best for 2016!

The ladies were especially nervous deciding on the gift because they had to open it on our Santa’s lap who
seemed pretty active in the chair. Thanks again to all for a great time.
December was parade month and we committed to several parades throughout central Florida, Apopka,
Sanford, Debary, Paisley Toy Run & the Florida Citrus Bowl Parade.
The Fall Ceremonial was a small class but the masons were well recommended, when we would bring out
the masons for a brief introduction we would ask them a few questions, and the one question was asked to
all was “who is your top line signer” and 90% of them would say Willie B “WOW”. It seems that we need
to keep Willie B on as one of the new candidate’s chairmen; this noble is a player. Our Director Eddie
Perez did his thing guiding, supporting, and instructing our new nobles through the many unforeseen
challenges set in place for them to meet. Eddie set the goals high and the new nobles met those challenges.
We even had one new noble ask if he could do the challenge again, after completing the challenge the
second time he was given an application to the Director’s Staff, we did not want to lose this one. No
matter what size of class you have for these ceremonials it is definitely a pleasure inviting these new
nobles and their ladies to join the Bahia family.
Voting Precincts will be a hot topic next year, our Noble Harley Jorden contacted the voting Board of
Elections and they can offer us two precincts. If staffed fully by nobles at two precincts (nine nobles per
precincts and three voting days) next year we could look at raising over $8000.00. This should be top
project next year and addressed each meeting.
Harley Jorden the Paper Crusade chairmen did a great job with the information, locations, and job duties
which outlined the success of this event. After two days and 4 shifts we were able to raise over $2100.00
for the hospital.
Tom Schaeffer the Car Chairmen did a fantastic job rehabbing the Sphinx, he changed the wiring,
transmission, air pump and tanks, drive shaft, moved the shift from the floor to the column which also
included a tilt wheel. He also worked with Tim Brehm keeping the other cars running and safe for all to
drive.
Don’t forget that our Director’s Staff meeting times has not changed; they are scheduled for the first
Monday of each month, social at 6:00 pm and meeting at 7:00 pm. The place to meet will be in the Fez
unless changed by the officers which will announce before the meetings.
2016 is going to be full of new challenges and struggles, but it’s also going to be full of opportunities;
opportunities to show what is possible when we work together, and show the perseverance of this great
Shrine. Thank you all for a wonderful year!

PAPER CRUSADE
PLAQUE DONATIONS
The Paper Crusade is a year around program with a two-fold purpose: (1) To inform the public about Shriners Hospitals and
the children we treat. Two days each year are designated for our members to distribute a special edition of a Hospital
Newspaper to the general public on street corners, in stores, and shopping centers, and (2) To raise funds for Shriners
Hospitals through voluntary donations not only during those two days, but also throughout the year.
In 1998, Bahia started a Plaque Program as an integral part of our annual Paper Crusades. The plaques are awarded
throughout the year to members, their friends and businesses for a donation of $100.00 or more. The plaques are engraved
with the donor’s name and there are ten update bars to denote the donor’s subsequent additional annual donations. Nobles
who make or obtain Plaque donations receive credit for their Club, Unit or BSC for Paper Crusade competition purposes.
As of January 15th the following have renewed or obtained New Paper Crusade Plaques donations. Contact your prior year
donors and get them to renew! We need a big push to match or exceed last year’s total! A Big Thank You to all the Nobles
and donors who are helping to make this happen. *denotes new plaque

The Children’s Corner
By Noble Peter Gregory
Four children were injured severely within a month of each other- all flown by us to Cincinnati. Fifteen hundred or so Shriners are all talking
about “What is Bahia going to do? - The Transportation Fund has run out of money!”
I was bothered by both of these issues. I can't do anything about the parents not being watchful over their little children. I was 'venting' to
one of my neighbors about the Transportation Fund problem, when he had simply asked me how things were going. Well, a couple of days
later he told me that he and his wife wanted to help rebuild the Transportation Fund. He then handed me a check for $1,000.00!!
He is NOT a Shriner. He is NOT a Mason. He is simply a great neighbor, and they are a couple who cares about our kids, apparently more
so than many of us do.
So for very many of you who really like to talk here is YOUR chance to be positive and talk up the Children, talk up the Transportation
Fund, and talk up the Shriners' Hospitals. Remember, I am NOT asking for your precious money, or for you to do any hard work, just go out
and tell our story. Follow the recent Past Grand Masters words – that we should be talking about Masonry/Shrinedom to the public.
Of course you will have to know and understand the facts of the matter. You can find out these things by talking with our drivers, our
Hospital representatives, and of course the Shrine children themselves when you come to the Christmas Party and Circus. No hard work just what we should all be doing.
Riding with the Iron Horses
Noble Ric Roberts, Secretary
We would like to Congratulate Ill Sir JT Gumina and thank Ill Sir Ken Harrelson for a great 2015. We are looking forward to supporting the
Divan and Bahia Nobility in 2016. Let us know what we can do to help.
The Iron Horse Unit closed out the year 2015 with a bang. We started December by supporting the East West Youth Football game and we
participated in many of the Central Florida December Christmas parades, doing maneuvers for the crowds. We went to Paisley to help give
the kids and families Christmas, by giving Motorcycle Rides and assisting where needed. We also gave many of our Children Motorcycle
Rides at Bahia Children’s Christmas party. Finally, we closed out 2015 by participating in the Citrus Bowl Parade by entertaining the crowds
with maneuvers.
We are looking forward to 2016 by being active in many events and rides. We will be doing a dinner ride every month and supporting many
local Central Florida Events, getting Bahia out in the community. Please go to our website for more information at www.Ironhorseunit.com.
The website is active and constantly changing but the calendar of events is updated daily so check it often. Also if you would like to receive
emails with updates on activities please email ironhorseunit@gmail.com.
We will be promoting the Sam Swope Memorial Charity ride in January, and we will be participating in the Crime Line Chili Cook-off,
serving the crowds our “Bahia Shrine Chili for Children”. We will be promoting the Sam Swope Charity Ride at the Tailgate Party in St
Petersburg during the East/West Shrine Bowl and at Thunder by the Bay in Sarasota. Make sure you get your chance to win a New 2016
Harley Davidson Heritage Softail and help support OUR Shriner Children’s Hospital in Tampa.
We meet on the 4th Tuesday of every month at Social at 6:30 and Meeting at 7:30 pm (normally in Unit Room B), please check our website
calendar for updates or contact an Officer. As always we are looking for more Nobles to “Ride so Kids can Walk”. Our President this year is
Ray Thompson, Road Captain – Ric Roberts, Secretary – Ill Sir Ken Harrelson, and Lieutenant – David Hunt. The President can be reached
at President@ironhorseunit.com, the Road Captain at roadcaptain@ironhorseunit.com, and the Secretary at secretary@ironhorseunit.com,
we all are looking forward to a great and prosperous 2016.

Reservations for 2017 Imperial Session - Daytona Beach
As you know the 2017 Imperial Sessions is fast approaching. I do not have to tell you that the next few years will be very
special having three years of Imperial Sessions right here in Florida. At this year’s session in Houston we selected
accommodations on the beach at the Holiday Inn Oceanfront Resort.
Araba, Azan, Egypt, Mahi, Marzuq and Sahib will be in the same hotel. Amara, Morocco and Shaddal will be staying in the
hotels next to us. We will be splitting the cost and efforts of a larger Hospitality Room (holding about 150 people) with the
other temples. The Hospitality Room will be open every day of the session with the availability of a smoking area just outside
the room.
Bahia has reserved 40 rooms for our members to come and enjoy the fun, please remember that this is a first come, first serve
basis.
All reservations are required to be 4 nights minimum – With the “WALK, RIDE, and DRIVE for LOVE” and Shriners Motor
Corps competition being Sunday at the Daytona International Speedway we would suggest a 5th night stay. The hotel rate is
$169 per night plus tax. Also there are 6 rooms that will accommodate 2 couples at $269 per night plus tax.
How do you reserve your room?
Simply write a check to Bahia Shrine Center for $50.00, on the memo line write 2017 housing. This is your non-refundable
deposit for the amazing fun in 2017. In August of 2016, you will be contacted by the Housing Chairman confirming your
dates of travel and obtain the proper credit card information for your first nights room. This information will be given to the
hotel who will charge your card once the list is completed. When you arrive in July of 2017 the hotel staff will direct you to
your room explain all the amenities and then guide you to Hospitality Room for your enjoyment.
Why the $50 Deposit?
The initial $20 per room fee has been paid on your behalf and the $30 is your donation to the Hospitality Room. Think about
it, where you can get a few beverages and snacks for 5 days for less than $3 per day per person. Also, don’t forget about the
camaraderie with the rest of the Shriners.
2017 Imperial Session events will keep you and your family busy the entire time. The entire event will kick off with the
“WALK, RIDE, and DRIVE for LOVE”. This event will take the Walk for Love to the next level. We will have 3 starting
points that all lead to the International Speedway with live entertainment. Food and beverages will be available to purchase
before the competitions start. The Motor Corps will take over the International Speedway for their annual event. Come
compete with your fellow nobles or just come out and cheer on your fellow nobles.
Please consider bringing your family, not only does the Holiday
Inn Oceanfront offer daily activities for kids. They will be
holding a movie night by the pool one of the nights for you to
get a little time with your spouse. Also there will be kid’s
activity area at the Ocean Center for the kids to meet other kid’s
from all over the world. Daytona is a great place to visit the
World’s Most Famous Beach. So make sure you have some
time to put your toes in the sand and cool off in the ocean.
Don’t forget about the parade and the First Lady’s Luncheon.
For other events and activities of what’s happening at the
session – Please go to www.imperial2017.com
Anyone requesting additional information let me assist you with
the process and answer your questions.

Patient honored for raising more than $1 million for the
Tampa Shriners Hospital
At age 2, Leigh Dittman told her parents that instead of receiving birthday gifts, she wanted to raise money for Shriners Hospitals for
Children — Tampa, the hospital that had cared for her since infancy. David and Ellen Dittman organized a backyard party and took
donations for the pediatric specialty hospital that had become their daughter’s second home.
The event grew each year, with more donations and bigger parties held at larger venues. Leigh set her goal at $1 million. On Dec. 14,
the hospital and its Board of Governors honored the 15-year-old patient ambassador for meeting that goal with a new plaque on the
hospital’s philanthropic wall.
“It’s very surreal,” Leigh said during the ceremony in which she swapped her bronze fundraising plaque for a gold one, which denotes donors who have given at least $1 million. She thanked the Shriners and the hospital staff for their support over the years as she
worked to achieve her lifelong goal.
Board chairman Tom Edwards described his first encounter with Leigh when she was 5. He was supposed to carry her through an
archway during a program.
“She said, ‘Mr. Shriner, be careful. I break easy,” he recalled. Since then, he has watched the little girl grow into an accomplished
young woman with an unbreakable spirit.
“It is amazing that our children have God's gift to be happy, to inspire others, to be dedicated to a cause, and just live life to its
fullness,” he said. “Leigh's smile and inspiration to achieve this goal is overwhelming and furthers the true goal of giving back to
society and other children at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Tampa.”
Hospital administrator Jeannette Skinner told those attending the ceremony that Leigh was among the first patients to be part of the
hospital’s osteogenesis imperfecta program, which has steadily grown over the years and become one of its premier programs. She
noted that Leigh has “given back each and every year” through her annual birthday event, which was held this year on Sept. 26 at the
India Cultural Center in Tampa.
“Leigh is one of the most special patients we have,” she said. “This is an individual who is going to make a big difference in the
world in her adult life.”
About Leigh Dittman
Leigh Dittman is a high school sophomore, a member of the National Honor Society and plays the violin. She has been a patient at
Shriners Hospitals for Children — Tampa since she was 3 weeks old. Leigh was born with osteogenesis imperfecta, commonly
known as “brittle bone disease.” The rare genetic condition has varied symptoms depending on the type, but the most common
symptoms are weak bones that break easily and short stature. Leigh was honored this year by the Hillsborough County School
District for her contributions to the hospital and was the 2011 Tampa Bay Business Journal’s Healthcare Philanthropist of the Year.
The Tampa Bay Lightning named her a community hero that same year. In addition to raising money for Shriners Hospitals for
Children — Tampa, Leigh speaks to groups across the United States about her condition and the hospital. She also volunteers at
Camp Care-A-Lot, the annual sleepaway summer camp for the Tampa hospital’s patients. Visit leighdittman.com for more
information.

BAHIA RV CLUB
By Noble Roy Campbell, RV Club Secretary
Hello to all you Happy Campers.
Happy New Year. We wish the new Divan the best year ever.
We didn’t camp the month of December as we had our Christmas party at Bahia with about 60 people in attendance. Food was great and the
company was wonderful. We had some wine and cheese baskets raffled off and some beautiful wreaths. There were several lucky members
by nights end. Bubba Claus and his elf paid us a visit. Our thanks go to all the people that helped organize the party with great entertainment.
Congratulations to our slate of officers for 2016.

Even though we didn’t have an official campout the month of December and no meeting a group of our RVer’s attended a New Year’s

Our officers are looking forward to being Installed at the Installation and are scheduled to go to the Officer's Seminar on January 31st.
If you are a previous member of the RV Club and no longer have an RV, remember you can rejoin the club and camp with us at any

Kismet Court No. 86 - Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America
By Lady Jamie Binkley
Greetings from Kismet Court,
The ladies of Kismet Court enjoyed a fun, if busy, holiday season! We had a great turnout at Crash-a-Rama and enjoyed parading with Bahia's
Nobles, representing the work we do on behalf of the Shriners Hospitals. The first week of December saw our ladies enjoying a painting and
chocolate fundraiser, the Winter Garden Christmas Parade and our annual Christmas party, where we collected toy donations to be delivered to the
Shreveport Hospital. We also had a great time at both the Paisley Toy Run and the Bahia Children's Party, where we spread holiday cheer making
crafts with patients and their siblings. These events are the highlight of our holiday season, reminding us of our first priority - the kids! We are
looking forward to the events surrounding the East West Shrine Game, and our Official Visit from Grand High Priestess Lady Joy Moore at the end
of January. Lady Joy will be sharing information about her Special Project with us - a Therapy Terrace at the new Pasadena Shriners Medical
Center.
We'd also like to extend a hearty welcome to our seven new members of the LOSNA Kismet Court who joined during our initiation ceremony the
second week of December. The new ladies are all wives of our Bahia Nobles - Christine Ziemer, Kim Drobny, Allison Rudolph, Annette Fender, Lee
Batenchuk, Dawn Charlton and Stephanie Lokken.
Our Greeters Unit will be holding a Spring Fling Tea and a Fashion Show Saturday, February 20th at 1pm at the Winter Park Lodge to raise money
for the LOSNA Special Project for the Shriner's Children’s Hospital in Pasadena, so please join us for this special event. Keep an eye out for LOS
ladies selling tickets or contact Nancy Yochum at 407-647-6239!
We truly appreciate your fellowship and support at these events!

Hits from the Bands
By Noble Curtis Johnson
The Dixielanders Too
The Dixielanders continue to spread interest in Bahia’s music opportunities. Besides doing open mic night at Sam Ash, we have also
participated in open mic at the Orlando Moose Lodge. Our music was very well received. Many Moose members took a spin on the dance
floor. That’s always a good sign.
The Dixielanders will also be holding a holiday
concert at Winter Park Towers. As we have for the
past few years, we will also be providing holiday
music for the Shrine Children’s Party.
Bahia Drum and Bugle Corps
Bahia’s Drum Corps was asked to preform our
National Anthem at the fund raising event for the
Ladies of the Shrine which was held at Crash-ORama. Many other units participated in the parade
around the track.
We will also be participating in the Christmas
Parade in New Smyrna Beach.

Signals from the Radio Unit
By Rod Cavin
Hi nobles. Trust you had a great holiday season and are ready to dig
into the new year.
Heading up the Radio Unit for 2016 is president Jim Hamilton,
K4QDF, vice president Jack Leavitt, KF4WM, Secretary Ray
Richard, W4RPR, and treasure Rod Cavin, W4VBK.
Congratulations nobles, have a good year.
President Hamilton has already started the year by reviewing our
unit’s radio station license, WR4BS, and making sure that all the
information is in order.
Biggest amateur radio event coming up is the Orlando Amateur
Radio Club’s annual amateur radio show and swap meet, Hamcation,
on February 12, 13 & 14. This is Hamcation’s 70th anniversary and
in that time it has become the second largest amateur radio show in
the country. In honor of the 70th, our national amateur radio
organization, ARRL, is making Hamcation their official national
convention. We’re looking forward to a huge show and another
OARC Hamcation success. Congratulations, OARC.
Most of our unit amateurs are members of OARC and many work
the show. It’s open to the public at the Central Florida Fairgrounds,
admission $15. Come see what we’re all about.
Nobles, if you are, or are interested in becoming, a ham, or you’re
just curious about amateur radio, please visit our monthly meeting.
With the change in Bahia operations, our monthly meeting has been
moved to the second Wednesday of the month, 1930 HRS (that’s
7:30 pm to you civilians) in the Fez.
See you next time around,

Golf Unit
By Noble Ed Smallwood, President
Nobles and Ladies: as this is the beginning of a new year, this will be my final write-up about life on the greens, near the water,
under the trees, or maybe we get lucky and hit the fairway. I did get lucky. After a two-week lay-off due to cataract surgery, II
played and hit all 14 fairways. I will not bore you with what happened on the second shots, however. If you are looking for an
outing, remember we play every Tuesday morning between 8 & 9 AM on a nice Central Florida course and the first Friday of the
month, same time, same courses.
Our new officers for 2016 are Erik Andersen, President; Brian Domain, Vice-President; Bill Ellis, Secretary; and Ken Muller,
Treasurer; with George Monty being "Mr. Golf" and making the arrangements for Tuesday, Friday, and sometimes Saturday golf.
Our annual Golf Tournament sponsored by the Harper Family Foundation with all earned proceeds going to support the Children's
Hospital, will be April 16, 2016--8:00 AM shotgun start at Zellwood Country Club. Come out and join us for breakfast, lunch, range
balls, door prizes, and great fellowship. Open to all. Special thanks go out to Shrine Golf Unit members and Golfettes for another
great year.
See you on the fairways, on the greens, or in the 19th hole.
Outgoing President, Noble Edward L. Smallwood
