Welcome
The Tabard Theatre Company
From Cathy Spielberger Cassetta, Artistic Director
Presents
hank you for joining us for Death Takes a Holiday, the second of six
productions in our 15th season, which we have themed “Coming Home.”
This romantic musical holiday joyously and passionately celebrates and
explores what home and family mean to us mortals deep to our core. This
musical is an adventure for the heart and spirit from beginning to end, a soaring
and impassioned ride.
Because this production is filled from the first note to the last with some of the
most beautiful vocal music ever written for the stage, the designated non-profit
for this production is the In-school Education Program of Opera San Jose, which
brings the rich experience of vocal music into our local schools.
We look forward to having you with us in December for two holiday treats:
Miracle on 34th Street, a world-premiere adaptation performed as a live radio
play with the sound effects created on stage right in front of our eyes — and ears!
Before each performance, we will present a hands-on sound effects
demonstration along with the opportunity to take a “selfie with Santa” and listen
to “carols in the courtyard” by young singers. Our second holiday treat is the
return of Nineteen’s Big Band Christmas for three performances! Tabard is
definitely the place to be this holiday season, and we look forward to sharing this
special time with you.
Music and Lyrics by Maury Yeston
Book by Peter Stone and Thomas Meehan
But, now, sit back and enjoy the romantic and lyrical ride that is Death Takes a
Holiday.
L
From Nick Nichols, Executive Director
ast year, The Tabard Theatre Company started a process to grow our
education program and more fully realize our mission to “...reach out to
the under-served, such as...children in low-income areas.” Thanks to
the leadership of our board, a significant grant from The Donor Circle for the
Arts and generous individuals who contributed, Tabard is now providing
after-school theatre programs at Empire Gardens elementary school and the
Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley. Over sixty children, grades K through 5,
are participating in these programs — free of charge. If you would like
to help Tabard expand these programs and bring theatre education to
school children in San Jose, I invite you to make a donation, of any size, at
tabardtheatre.org/donate. Thank you and enjoy the show.
Inspiration and imagination found here. Tabard.
Death Takes a Holiday (Musical) is presented
by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.
The video and/or audio recording of this performance by any
means whatsoever are strictly prohibited.
Theatre is more than a show. Tabard.

Life is hard. But, apparently, Death is harder. And sometimes we all need a break. As we
struggle through our daily lives, it can often feel like there’s always someone else who has
it better than we do, and we can fantasize about spending some time walking in their
shoes. The challenge, though, is to consider the fact that there are a great many people in
our community who have far less than we do, and would give anything to be able to
switch places with us for a day — or a weekend.

Experience the magic. Tabard.
Death Takes a Holiday allows us the opportunity to examine the strength of family, the
loyalty of comrades, the closeness of community, and the bonds of love. The characters in
this play celebrate each other’s milestones, mourn their losses, follow their hearts, and
share a mutual respect that is moving to witness. And all of this under the umbrella of an
age-old premise, a captivating story and a delightful score.
As the holidays approach, I hope you’ll take time out to spend with those who are close
to you. Bring them to the theatre with you, where together you can be spirited away on an
Italian holiday (or anywhere else your imagination takes you). It will give you the
opportunity to spend a few hours in someone else’s shoes; to realize that, “In the middle
of your life, anything can happen...” And, perhaps, as you head home together, you’ll
find you’re all the more grateful for what you have.
I’m grateful that you chose to spend a couple of hours here with us. I’m grateful for this
glorious cast and creative team. I’m grateful for the love of friends and family. And I’m grateful
for this opportunity to remember that, though it may sometimes feel hard, “Life’s a Joy.”
Time well spent. Tabard.
Meet the Artists
Meet the Artists
Rachelle Abbey (Daisy) is excited to be making her debut at
Tabard! Favorite roles include Penny in Hairspray (South Bay
Musical Theatre), Maisie in The Boy Friend (WVLO Musical Theater),
and Val in A Chorus Line and Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors
(Sunnyvale Community Players). When not on stage she enjoys forms
of social dancing such as Lindy hop and ballroom as well as tennis
and choir. She currently works in the Wyss-Coray lab at Stanford,
investigating rejuvenation in the brain.
Ryan Henry (Vittorio) is appearing in his first Tabard production
and he is ecstatic to be included in this amazing cast! He holds a B.A.
in theater but wasn’t actively involved as a performer until a couple of
years ago. Since beginning this journey, he’s performed with West
Valley Light Opera, Lyric Theatre, Berkeley Playhouse, and Foothill
Music Theatre. During rehearsals for this production he married the
love of his life, Tony, and is grateful for all of his love and support! By
day, he’s a Realtor and licensed building contractor.
Stephen Boisvert (Death) has been performing in the Bay Area since
2001. Stage appearances include productions with City Lights Theater
Company, Opera San Jose, Lyric Theatre, West Bay Opera, Foothill Music
Theatre, Livermore Valley Opera, and San Francisco Opera. He has also
performed with Symphony Silicon Valley, American Canyon Singers, Bay
Choral Guild, and the San Francisco Festival Chorale in Wyoming’s Grand
Tetons Music Festival. In his spare time, he works 50 - 60 hours a week
at tech company NVIDIA, making sure your video games look amazing.

Mohamed Ismail (Corrado) would like to thank his dad for
giving him the independence to pursue his dreams, his mom for
reminding him what endless love looks like, and his sister for
sitting him in front of a piano and patiently teaching him how to
sing when he turned thirteen. He would fly to the moon if he
could. Oh, and Mohamed has done theater in the past and will
probably do more in the future too.
Michael Cuddy (Lorenzo) returns for his second Tabard show
with Death Takes A Holiday, following his appearance in last
season’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, and he is thrilled to
be back! A mild-mannered software engineer and father-of-four by

Homeward Bound: An Orphan Train Journey. Having served as music and/or vocal
director for many local productions, she is an accomplished pianist, who has also played
for many other local musical theatre productions. With a bachelor’s degree in music,
specializing in music therapy, she is a Board Certified Music Therapist with the
Certification Board for Music Therapists, Inc. and maintains her own private practice.
Cathy Spielberger Cassetta (Producer) is a theatre/television veteran and entrepreneur
who created/produced/co-hosted the weekly TV program Theater This Week in the 1990s
before founding Tabard in 2001. For Tabard she has directed 10 productions including
the award-winning production of Trying. She created and co-wrote More Than Petticoats
and she both directed and wrote a handful of productions including the most recent
Homeward Bound: An Orphan Train Journey. Cathy spends her non-theatre time training
to be a certified yoga instructor through Almaden Yoga, with a focus on yoga for seniors.
Joe Cassetta (Technical Director) continues to lead Tabard’s technical team, which he
has done since the company was founded in 2001. With a B.S. in mechanical engineering
and an M.B.A. from Santa Clara University, Joe’s steady and skilled leadership has led to
Tabard’s increased ability to explore and expand what we do technically.
Samuel Cisneros (Assistant Music Director) is a highly respected pianist and music
director who has worked with most of the theatre companies in the South Bay as well
as accompanying STOCtet. He returns to Tabard after music-directing Starting Here,

Our Mission Statement: Founded in 2001, The Tabard Theatre Company is the
managing and resident theatre company of Theatre on San Pedro Square. Tabard
is committed to making a difference in the community through the arts by
providing enlightening theatre experiences that are appropriate and affordable
for audiences of all ages. Tabard is an inclusive environment where the
community can participate in every area of the plays, musicals, educational
programs and music concerts we produce. We champion new works, innovative
interpretations and unique works rarely produced. With a specific focus on
altruism and philanthropy, Tabard reaches out to the under-served, such as the
blind/visually impaired and children in low-income areas, and donates a
portion of each production’s concession proceeds to a designated local charity
whose work is thematically related to each show.
