First A Little History…
We originally opened Tiggy-Winkles Day Nursery in June 2002 which was located
inside the Total Fitness Centre on Winwick Road. After 10 years we took the
opportunity to relocate to our own brand new purpose built nursery in January 2012.
Since our original opening we have been renowned for providing the highest quality
professional day care in a stimulating, well equipped and caring environment in which
your child will thrive and enjoy learning through play.
Next, Our Management Team…
Andrea Scott
Nursery Proprietor
Dawn Wilde EYP
Nursery Manager
Our management team of Dawn and Andrea have worked together since the opening of
our nursery in June 2002. They are always available from your first point of contact
and each day once your child starts at nursery. They are available in the office if you
just pop in, telephone or email. We operate an open door policy and welcome your
questions.
“All the staff are highly qualified and have a good knowledge of how children learn. Staff
provide a rich and varied programme of activities for children”. (Ofsted August, 2015)
Now Our Nursery Rooms…
Cotton~Tails Room
Meet Lisa Lynock our Senior Nursery Nurse in Cotton~Tails Room.
Lisa is qualified to NVQ Level 3 and has worked caring for babies
since 2010.
In Cotton~Tails Room we care for up to twelve babies from 3
months to approximately 16 months old. The babies are cared for by
our team of fully qualified and experienced Nursery Nurses with a
ratio of three babies to one nursery nurse. We have a comfortable
armchair, brightly painted walls and floor cushions to promote the
home environment, cots for each baby, a separate nappy change
area and kitchen area, an area for messy play and lots of space for
those all important first steps. We also use the wonderful Dream Coracles for our
older babies sleep times. An inviting sleep space or cosy retreat that children can
choose to climb into…
“Parents build excellent relationships with the staff and children flourish during their time at the
nursery”. (Ofsted August, 2015)

Staff consistently give children an abundance of attention, time and praise, which helps to

special in the nursery and their behaviour is excellent. (Ofsted August, 2015)

Meet Kate Mahoney, Deputy Manager in our Pre School

the ECAT Program (Every Child A Talker) and is our in house
speech and language specialist working to support all the rooms in
nursery. If we have a concern regarding a child’s speech and
language development Kate is on board from the very start to
support and guide both staff and parents. Please see our ECAT Display Board in
Nursery Reception for more details.

years to school age. The children will be cared for by our team of fully qualified
Nursery Nurses with a ratio of eight children
to one nursery nurse.
“Older children are prepared exceptionally well for their move to Reception class through strong links
with local schools”. (Ofsted August, 2015)
Outdoor Play Area
Over the last few years childcare has changed beyond recognition with the
introduction of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), a fundamental part of the
EYFS is to promote free access to outdoor play in all weathers. In line with the EYFS
we have created a fabulous outdoor play area with policies to accommodate this new
way of thinking.
We now have “free access” to the outside play area at all times and we provide all
weather clothing for the children to be dry and warm when choosing to play outside.
With this in mind our fabulous brand new outdoor play area is safe and secure and is
available throughout the year for all our children to use. The brightly coloured special
safety surfacing is ideally suited for small children not to hurt themselves when
playing and is specially designed to absorb falls.
“Staff provide a variety of outdoor activities to support children's physical skills and develop their
muscles”
(Ofsted August, 2015)
The environment
plays a key role in
supporting and
extending children’s
development and
learning.
(EYFS, 2008)
“Children have access to an extensive range of high-quality resources that offers them freedom to
choose where and how they play, whether it be indoors or outdoors.” (Ofsted August, 2015)
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
The Early Years Foundation stage (EYFS) is a framework that supports children from
birth to the end of the reception year in Primary School. The framework encompasses
Seven Areas of Learning and Characteristics of Effective Learning, which
interconnect and your child will be observed at play throughout their time at nursery
to ensure they are progressing towards the Early Learning Goals as
defined by the EYFS. The ethos of EYFS is that children develop
best whilst at play and we centre our learning around your child’s
individual interests.
Catherine Maguire is our Early Years Teacher and as such her role
is to oversee our children’s learning and development throughout
the nursery. Please feel free to view our EYFS display board in
reception or ask Catherine any questions you may have.
“Staff complete accurate observations of what children can do and these good assessments form the
basis of what children need to learn next”.
(Ofsted August, 2015)
Owl Track
Be wise, analyse. Early years tracking made easy
Here at Tiggy-Winkles Day Nursery we are leading the way in Warrington by
using the most up to date tracking software to record and track our children’s
development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Parents and carers are allocated an individual login to the Owl Track system allowing
access to your child’s online profile. You no longer need to come into nursery and look
through a file or wait for your child’s overview meeting to view the very latest
information we hold, you can do this at your leisure from home or anywhere!
The EYFS places a strong emphasis on working with parents as partners, Owl Track
has been designed with this in mind and helps parents and practitioners to reflect
together in both on-going dialogue and in your child’s individual planning and
observations. Parents are freely able to add observations and photographs at their
leisure, just as their child’s Key Worker does whilst at nursery, allowing us to build a
comprehensive picture of your child’s overall development both at home and nursery.
We strongly encourage all our parents to participate as much as possible as well as to
view their child’s online profile regularly.
Healthy Eating, Diet & Nutrition…
Is a Way of Life Here at Tiggy-Winkles! We pride ourselves on providing a varied and
healthy diet and one which children will enjoy.
We have a full time cook Jacqueline who is qualified to NVQ 2.
Jacqueline prepares and cooks everything from popular pasta
bakes to homemade winter warming soups and casseroles, the
children just love it. Why not take a look at our current menus
on our website!
Our menus rotate each week and from summer to winter so an
excellent variety of fresh seasonal food is always available. We
happily cater for any dietary, religious or cultural beliefs for our
children at nursery.
We are delighted and very proud to have consistently been
awarded the highest grade of ‘5’ for our Food Hygiene Rating. We
obtained the Healthier Together Award in June 2013, in March
2016 this was reviewed and due to our ongoing commitment to
healthy eating, our certificate has been renewed. Jacqueline has obtained the
prestigious Healthier Together Award in two boroughs and uses this knowledge to
continue our commitment.
‘ Winner of the Healthier Together Award ’
“Children fully understand the importance of a healthy and balanced diet and are fully involved in
developing healthy menus throughout the year.” (Ofsted August, 2015)
Gradual Admission
The week before your child starts at Nursery we offer free of charge a week of
gradual admission which is detailed below. We would like to point out that it is flexible
and will be tailored to your child's individual requirements.
Day 1: You and your child will spend approximately one
hour together in their room, meet their key worker
and play and chat to the nursery nurses. This is an
ideal opportunity to complete all the relevant
paperwork the nursery requires and share
information.
Day 2: You and your child will spend approximately
one hour and fifteen minutes at nursery and play and
chat to the nursery nurses. One hour of which we
suggest you leave the room for a coffee and take the
opportunity to read our policy file.
Children learn to be
strong and
independent from a
base of loving and
secure relationships
with parents and/or a
key person.
(EYFS, 2008)
Day 3: If your child is settling in well into nursery then we would advise you to leave
them in the room after approximately fifteen minutes and join Catherine our Early
Years Teacher who will give you your personal login to our Owl Track System and take
you through how to login and access your child’s online profile.
Day 4: If your child is happy then we would advise you to leave them in the room after
approximately ten minutes and return to collect them after lunch or tea.
Day 5: This will be your child’s first full day at the nursery getting familiar with the
daily activities and we suggest you collect them at what will be their usual collection
time.

moving to another setting.

Please note that we have a duty of care to inform the Safeguarding
