Rich Collins got some sugar from the Portsmouth Herald in
NH for his ‘Big A 50K’ held at every May at Mt. Agamenticus
in York ME! An avid runner of the Mt A trail system, Mr.
Collins got the idea for a 50K after discussing with some fellow
runners, including co-organizer WCRC member Bob Najar.
Three loops of a beautiful 10 mile trail is what you’ll get at the
Big A 50—including a single stocked aid station that the
runners cross twice.
The Big A 50K word is spread by mouth, so if you’re itching
for a sweet long haul in May the weekend before Mother’s Day,
contact Rich or Bob. The builder is also a giver: Rich donates
all proceeds to the Mt. Agamenticus Conservation Fund!

Loco Sports’ array of innovative races has a long early-September option,
when the Applecrest Half Marathon goes off. While bushels of apples
were being harvested by host Applecrest Farm, bushwhacked WCRCers
headed home with achievement and awards aplenty! Five WCRCers
stood on the podium with poise: Greg McCullough was our fastest and
best in the M50-54 group. Carmela Taveras was also #1, in F50-54.
Rick Reynolds was top cat in M65-69. Tuning up for her Maine Marathon effort, Kathy Winslow was 3rd in F45-49. No awards ceremony is
complete without Sin Kounlasa, who took 3rd in age in F55-59.
Honorable mention to Sarah Knowlton, 2nd fastest WCRCer, and 4th in
F25-29! Congrats to our apple-award getters, winners to the core! -RR
Dollas: the Apple of Our Eye
It’s a real treat when WCRC has an overall champion at a race. At the Apple Harvest races, a dual distance
event (5 miles and 5K) Beth Dollas gave Circle Nation a reason to shout with her solid 6:22 pace efforts at the
5 Mile event! Dollas was the overall women’s winner; an impressive 7th overall at the annual harvest themed
event. Beth was not alone on the 5-mile podium: our Kelly LeCours took 3rd woman overall. It seemed like
the Circle hogged the podium all day: John Rheume was 5th overall and best in M30-39, and legend Susannah Landreth was #1 in F40-49! Bobby Strout rounded out our 5 mile award winners with 2nd in age, M50
-59.
In the 5K event, the Circle was at it again: Cam Leonard was the champ at M12-15 at a scorching 6:12 pace,
and Pistol Pete Heslam was numero-uno at M40-49! The Iola family towered mightily on the podium as well:

WCRC speedsters Matt Cirinna and Abby Jackson were the lone
WCRCers who took to the mean streets of Dover NH to race the Apple Harvest Day 5K, with apple-sweet results. Abby was best in the W30-39 age
group in a fantastic 21:30 (6:56 pace). Matt ain’t no crab-apple; he cranked
through the course in a zippy 19:36 (6:19 pace).

‘Lone’ Us
Some Legs!

2013 Series Race #5—Lone Gull 10K
A few years back the director of Lone Gull 10K took to the microphone and
announced at the start that this was the final race. He thanked everyone for their
support and wished them well. There was loud cheering and a few tears. This
was the type of race, with its spectacular ocean views and undulating coastal
terrain, which gives New England road racing its reputation. That was that,
thought the hundreds gathered for this out-and-back dash along Gloucester’s
backshore. Another classic destined for the dustbin.
Then, in an unusual twist, the race returned and then subsequently became part of
the USATFNE New England Grand Prix road racing circuit. This year over
1,100 competed on a beautiful mid-September Sunday morning, streaming out
toward the turnaround at Eastern Point. Between entry fees and sponsors, over
$20,000 was raised for the Beverly School for the Deaf. Circle minions,
always ready to race and contribute to charity, arrived early in the Good Harbor
parking lot to assemble and warm up as a team.
Injuries, unfortunately, have pared Circle USATFNE numbers significantly this
season. The captain of the senior men’s team (as well as men’s team
coordinator), in fact, has taken up residence in Port Rehab.
“The food’s not as bad as some people think,” said John Webber, “and either are
the nurses. Thanks to them I’m finally walking without assistance.”
Another senior member who has certainly had his share of injuries over the years
managed to finish in the top twenty-five (out of 110) in his age group--even
though at 58 he’s giving up a chunk of years to his competitors. Bob Strout,
who puts more miles on his bike just going to work than any Tour de France veteran does in training, still holds the 800 record at Haverhill High School he
smashed back in 1973.
“Sure I’ve lost some speed over the years,” he acknowledged, “but I’ve gotten a
lot smarter. As of last year I no longer take the lead when the gun goes off.”
Newly minted master Lynn McNamara finished 14 out of 157 in her age group.
For her milestone 40th, she elected to forgo cake and booze in favor of two hours
of Pilates sandwiched between double sessions on the roads.

“I’m done fooling around,” she said. “I’ve moved beyond temptation. It’s taken

Carolyn Layzer had nothing but praise for McNarama’s performance. She herself finished in the top third of her age group, sprinting past a number of
competitors on the final hill just before the finish.
“I remembered that hill because we went over it at the start. But I can’t remember what I did with
my car keys. Anyway, what was I talking about? Oh, yeah. Lynn. She’s awesome. She’s the best.
That’s Lynn over there, right?”

For Vicki Miller, who has been running like a woman half her age all
season (a 7th place finish in her age group), the quick round trip along
Gloucester’s postcard shoreline provided a moving meditation of
sorts.
“I worked hard to still my mind during a race,” she said. “Some
people might think by the blank look on my face that I’m totally out
of it, that the lights are on and nobody’s home, but nothing could be
further from the truth.”

For master’s ace Peter Heslam, a veteran of just about every road
race in the region (Mt Desert Island Marathon anyone?), the day
turned out even better than he anticipated. He knew the course like
the back of his hand, having run it each May in the Backshore Five,
which helped him finish in the top ten percent of the field. Later, after his cool down, he took to the beach with his metal detector and
was rewarded for his efforts.
“Let’s just say my Teknetics Gamma 6000 did not disappoint and
leave it at that,” said Heslam. “To an amateur I’m sure I look like
some kook out there waving a gizmo around for loose change and lost
wedding rings. But I’m totally fine with that. I have my retirement to
think about.”
All in all, it was a solid day’s work for the blue and gold. With only
two races left in the USAFTNE road racing season, a record nine Circle partisans are being fitted for the coveted
Ironrunner jacket.
“Those jackets always come in handy,” observed Laurie Gaudreau. “The only problem I have is with the design. Every year it’s a narrower fit. Is it me or are they beginning to resemble straightjackets? Of course with this crowd,
straightjackets are probably not a bad idea.”

No Fear of the Nahant’ed House

For an event without a long tradition, the Nahant 30k has
2013 Series Race #6—Nahant 30K
quickly earned a reputation as one of the toughest and most
beautiful races in the region. This year, for the first time, it
earned a spot on the USATFNE Grand Prix road racing calendar.
Showcasing numerous hills long and short, as well as assorted twists and turns through tony
neighborhoods, the course loops back on itself and twice takes racers out to a promontory
with a panoramic view of the sparkling Atlantic. There, runners can appreciate the view
or—depending on their state of mind—throw themselves onto the rocks below. At mile 15
the course finally flattens out along Nahant Beach and finishes at the
bathhouse. It’s a serious day’s work, these 18.6 ruggedly scenic miles, but
worth it, especially for strength-building with the Manchester Marathon
just a month away.
For the price of blood blisters and piano wire quads, Circle affiliates—nine
of whom are listed as Ironrunners with only Manchester remaining—came
away with finishers’ medals and a renewed sense of confidence.
“You not going to see stroller-pushers or two hundred pound weekend
warriors,” noted senior Rick Walsh, who happens to be enjoying his best
season ever. “It’s like the old days, when runners wore white tee shirts and
black shoes and spectators stood on sidewalks shaking their heads and
wondering why anyone would be dumb enough to do this sort of thing. It’s
very uplifting.”
A few Circle carpoolers who travelled Lynn Shore Drive on the way were
under the mistaken assumption the course was flat.
“Where did I ever get the idea that Nahant was a pancake?” asked Matt
Cirinna, first in for the blue and gold. “I used to come to the beach as a
kid but somehow I never turned my head to my left and noticed that mountain over there.”

This race is, mile for mile, the toughest of the season. Manchester may be
longer, but doesn’t boast nearly the alternating terrain Nahant does.
Because Circle women have always loved an uphill fight, it’s no surprise
that a trio finished in the top three in their respective age groups. Still, for
Laurie Gaudreau, Vicki Miller, and Jackie Hussey—Ironrunners all--the
arduous undertaking generated more questions than answers.
“Why didn’t I keep going once I got through the chute?” wondered
Hussey, who postrace stood knee-deep in the surf hoping to eliminate any
sensation from the knees down. “I vowed to do 27 in preparation for
Manchester. What are my chances of doing that now? Nil and zero.”

“Have I gone beyond my training tipping point?” asked Gaudreau. “How
many miles are too many? How many are not enough? For the life of me I can never figure
this sport out.”

Miller, consistently racking up points all season long, topped her age
group, becoming only the second woman in club history to achieve
the feat. A nurse by profession, she’s spent years using tough love to
get the sick back on their feet. So what advice has she for those
racked by the pain and discomfort that’s inevitable in the later stages
of this type of race?
“Suck it up,” she says, “then go home and train harder so it doesn’t
happen again.”
Another Circle woman warrior, Abby Jackson, finished 13th out of
51 in her age group. Jackson, whose racing resume lists endeavors
that make a 30K like Nahant seem like a stroll around the block, issued a critique both on the course and the sport in general.
“To be honest, I was looking for a little more out of today,” she
confessed. “If it were up to me I would have added half a dozen
more hills. I’d also eliminate the water stops. There’s been a serious
effort to dumb-down this sport over the last ten
years and frankly I’m sick of it.”
Circle members like their races without the frills and amenities used to attract less serious
athletes. They compete with an attitude belonging to a bygone era when the sole purpose of
racing was to garner another personal best.
“Call me old-fashioned,” noted Cirinna, “but if I’m able to stand on my own and speak in
coherent sentences at the finish, then I know I haven’t run hard enough.”

2013 Series Race #7—Manchester Marathon (finale!)
If there’s one race that showcases the strength of the Winner’s Circle Running Club, it’s
the marathon. Mention 26.2 miles and club members come running, and keep on
running, until they’re swathed in tinfoil and queuing up for the massage table.
For the final race of the USATFNE Grand Prix Road Racing season, the Manchester City
Marathon, Circlers raced through the historic mill streets of the Queen City. They
navigated rail trails, bicycle paths, and footpaths. They traversed hills overlooking the
city and travelled along the scenic shores of Lake Massabesec. By the time they wound
their final six mile loop through downtown, it was clear that many would score in their
respective age groups, having saved their strongest performances of the year for a race
known to bring many a formidable runner to his knees.
Vicki Miller took her age group outright. She also captured her age group title overall,
delivering serious street cred to the club. In her unassuming way she’s been sneaking up
on competitors all season long and calmly stomping the life out of them.
“It’s frightening,” admitted Jackie Hussey, who took fourth in Miller’s age group.
“There’s Vicki in street clothes and there’s Vicki in a singlet. In fact, that’s who I was
on Halloween. I went as Vicki in a singlet and scared the hell out of a lot of people.”
Tom Miller, who grabbed a third in his age group and earned an
Ironrunner jacket, credits his wife for his own success this season.
“She refuses to talk to me unless I run well,” he says. “For most guys
that would be heaven but personally I like talking to my wife.”
For Sinthy Kounlasa, who also got a third in her age group, several
bowls of restorative chili in the athletes’ village postrace had her
looking forward to competing for the Winner’s Circle on the
USATF-NE circuit again in 2014. “You aren’t going to find better
teammates anywhere,” she acknowledged. “I’m not sure what they do
in their civilian lives or even how most of them manage to hold down
jobs. I don’t ask a lot of questions. But there are none better when it
comes to support during a race.”
Senior Adam Nisson tallied his first ever USATFNE points, securing
a ninth place finish in his respective age group. Though Nisson runs
marathons as frequently as he gets his hair cut, tallying points in this
kind of competition has special significance. “It was on my bucket

Like Nisson, Dan Maguire also finished in the top ten in his age group. He’s run a
number of USATF-NE events over the years and has tweaked his racing acumen so that
he no longer recognizes the runner he was when he started on the circuit. “If I knew then
what I know now I would have known what I was supposed to know when the gun went
off,” he explained. “In other woods, I was babe in the woods. In fact, a babe who
actually got lost in the woods during that 2012 snowstorm in the middle of the Amherst
ten miler.”
For battle-hardened women’s team coordinator Laurie Gaudreau, piling up points in the
USATF-NE standings is nearly automatic. Third in her age group against a tough field,
she dismissed her most recent achievement in a somewhat defensive tone.
“Some people think I’m just a robot with an on/off switch,” she said. “And okay, so
maybe I do have ‘Train, race, repeat’ tattooed on my clavicle. But that doesn’t mean I
don’t have a heart beating in my chest like everyone else.”
None of the Circle members who raced Manchester need be defensive about their
performance. Ten of the eighteen scored in his or her age group, and each expressed a
desire for the start of the 2014 season.
“This season half our squad was either in the surgical ward or the PT clinic,” observed
Nisson. “That’s what happens when you train like we do. Finally, though, everyone is
back on the roads.” -DD

decent from the start, and climbs around mile 18- a great
predictor for how your legs will respond to the downhill
pounding at April’s Big Show. Five WCRCers fearlessly took
the test on September 29th, four went sub 3:50—and two came
away with solid hardware! Sin Kounlasa took 2nd in W5059, in a fantastic 3:47:45—and Ron Johnston took 3rd in

A pair of our finest
distance demons departed for the Adirondack Marathon on
September 27th to do battle with a tough hilly race in the heart
of New York state’s High Peaks country. The M60-69 age
category was stacked, and only our hardy 50-Statesman Bob
Kennedy could crack it- and the four-hour barrier- taking an
excellent 2nd in that age group and the coveted maple syrup
award! Multi-time 50-Stater Curt Lintvedt has taken home
the syrup in previous years, but the legs said no-mas in ADK
and Curt brought it home with a fine 6th in age. Unsatisfied,
Curt tackled another hill-fest 26.2 two weeks later (see below).

Woodstock trail race festival, a spirited, hippy-themed yet crazy
difficult set of races: 42K,
50K and 100K.

Loco: Biggest Races in State of NH!
Smuttynose Rockfest Marathon/Half Marathon

What do 953 marathoners and 3825 half marathoners at the same event have in
common? All were part of the record set as Loco Sports recorded the largest
marathon and half marathon in the state of New Hampshire! Of course WCRC was
on site to pace other runners, race their way to awards, qualify for Boston—and tip
back ice cold refreshing Smuttynose!
At the marathon, we had 2 award winners and 3 Boston Qualifiers! Janet
Parkinson has been racking up the awards in 2013, and took #1 in the F60-69 age
group in sub-4 hours! Rick Reynolds took 2nd in the M60-69 category in a fast
3:44:35 time! The amazing Bruce Lander (3:16!!), Mr. Reynolds and Mrs.
Parkinson all qualified for April’s Big Show at Rockfest!
At the Half, WCRC ‘flexed their quads’ as well as the full: John Elkaliouby was
#1 in the M65-69 age group! 800 meter specialist Jordan Parkinson can go long
too, and was tops in the M20-24 group. Kona-Steve Smith never leaves without
hardware, and took 3rd in the competitive M60-64 category.

Half or Full: The ‘Maine Event’ For WCRC

26.2: The ‘Win’ in Winslow, Dropping the Hatchet
It was a huge day of accomplishment on Casco bay, as
WCRCers qualified for Boston, and won copious awards at the
Maine Marathon in Portland!
Kathy Winslow was our fastest Circle member at the 26.2
distance, breaking the 3:30 barrier with a superb 3:29:00 good
for 7:59! Kathy also took home hardware, by finising 2nd in
the F45-49 age bracket! Superstar Heidi Hatch was our 2nd
fastest WCRCer, grabbing an excellent 8th in the super
competitive F30-34 bracket, and crossing for a scorching
3:33:26 (8:10)! Big Bad Bob Dunfey was at it again, finishing
in a fast 3:43:35 (8:32) and capturing 2nd in M60-64 age
group. Sin Koulasa’s run was not only remarkable because it
was her second marathon in 7 days, but because she crossed
in a great 4:00:28 (9:12), and won her age group: F55-59!
A total of six WCRCers also qualified for the Boston’s Big
Show: Kathy Winslow, Heidi Hatch, Bob Dunfey, Amy
Mosca, Kim Coppinger, and Sin Kounlasa! Congrats to all
y’all!

Marathon—four of which took home well deserved hardware!
Tom Pore was our best runner, taking 5th in M30-34 age with
a crushing 1:25:40 (6:33 pace)! Our Polly Kenniston was
#1—tops in age, F75-79 in a fine 2:15:17 (10:20). Carmela
Taveras crossed in a super 1:38:15 (7:31!) for a 2nd in age,
F50-54, and our 3rd fastest half runner! Brian Denger captured 3rd in age, M50-54, in a fantastic 1:27:05 (6:39), our
second fastest runner of the half. Jerry Levasseur was our
final award winner of the day, capturing 3rd in the M75-79 age
category. Monsieur Levasseur crossed in a great 2:26:29
(11:20)!

Six WCRCers took on the coveted BAA
Half Marathon, a race so well loved that it
sells out in 10 minutes! Competition was stiffer than a petrified
oak board at this race, so our WCRCers had their work cut out
for them. Still, we had fine results: one week after qualifying
for Boston and winning her age group at the Maine Marathon,
Sin Kounlasa finished 7th in her 50-59 age group. Colby
Nixon took 11th in the 20-29 age group. Adam Nisson
completed the BAA Distance Medley: Adam raced all 3 events,

target competition. Flat with
challenges, the Eliot course is perfect to
start the fall speed season. Our frontrunner Colby Nixon took 2nd overall

blasted her way to 2nd woman overall.

Every year, the WCRC ‘Bell Faithful’ flock to the streets of Haverhill
MA to celebrate this totally fake guy, volunteer to work the race, and/or
to race head to head- males versus females. Who would win? How did
our Circle soldiers do? Thanks to the magic of hindsight (and
coolrunning.com) - the Rag has your answer!
The gun went off, the runners laid it out, the results tabulated, the
women’s times were multiplied by .88– and the results resorted.
The women fell short, top woman Laura Rudd finishing as high as 5th
with the gender graded scoring. But our gal Kelly LeCours finished
right behind Rudd, in 6th! Kelly was also the winner of one of the Bell’s
special awards: Kelly was the top Haverhill Finisher!
As for our award winners in the 10-year age groups (gender mixed),
WCRC made an impact with two first places: masters miler
extraordinaire Chris Kealey finished 2nd overall, and was tops in the
40-49 category, and Larry Fowle was #1 in the 30-39 age gang!
14-years-awesome Cam Leonard struck for silver in the 19-and-under
age group, at an impressive 6:18 minute mile pace! Our final award
winner was John Rheaume in the insanely competitive 20-39 age group,
a group spanning 20 years!! John mustered an impressive 3rd overall in
this stacked category.
After the race, our racers and volunteers headed inside The Lasting
Room, the post-event libation station, where the ales flowed and Icky
Labrode’s 16oz pilsner glass awards could be filled. Congrats to our
award winners, and to Dave LaBrode for putting on another great event!

Great Guns at Great Island!
The Great Island 5K

Sixteen WCRCers were found on Newcastle Island NH
for the Great Island 5K, an autumn tradition on the
seacoast. Nothing grated on our runners, as great
weather greeted our heroes, with great results!
Loco-Linda St. Laurent went guns-ablaze at Great Island, taking 2nd place
overall for women! Jordan Parkinson executed his track-speed to enforce
his greatness at Great Island, winning the M20-29 age category in 17:35!
What is an awards podium without Janet Parkinson? She rounds out our
winners, capturing 3rd in the F60-69 category. To all: great race! -RR

Grange Is Gold At Memorable Memorial!
Lawrence Vietnam Memorial 4 Mile Road Race
October 27, 2013
Right around 1990, the Lawrence Vietnam Memorial was raised; a stone
tribute that honors the 18 local servicemen who died in Vietnam. But Ed
‘Hoppy’ Curran, a veteran himself, wanted to go beyond the granite memorial that could be overgrown or forgotten. Hoppy wanted a living, moving
tribute. Hoppy and friends developed the idea of a race, and the Lawrence
Vietnam Memorial Road Race was born. The race had these 3 goals: #1:
race to honor those who served, #2: fund scholarships to help the younger
generation, #3: party at the Claddagh Pub to tie it all together! WCRC
answered the call, with ten WCRCers thirsting for victory (and other stuff).
Chris Grange’s award-filled 2013 continued, with a convincing
outright victory at the LVM4! Larry Fowle was a scant 23 seconds in arrears, good for a solid 2nd place overall! The fabulous Sharon Yu was our
only age group winner; tops in age F60-69, besting her nearest opponent by
two minutes! Finally, our Greg Washak was best in the Veterans Division!
Congratulations to all, including Mr. Grange on a big win! -RR

Grins: Miles Wide, At Green Stride 13.1

Thirty-five WCRCers stomped the
streets of NBPT at the 3rd annual
Green Stride Newburyport Half
Marathon. WCRC family members Eli and Lauretta Bailin are your hosts
to this fine event, attracting 1,304 finishers to the seaside town on a sweet
autumn weekend.
Did WCRC muscle their way to the forefront? Heck yeah: five WCRCers
placed in age, showing our depth from youth to masters to veterans! Chris
Grange was our top finisher, in 14th place– mixing it up with a lead pack
brimming with overseas talent, and some of New England’s finest. In our
masters women fight, it was the Battle of the Kellys: Kelly Bradbury took
1st and Kelly LeCours took 2nd in the F45-49 women’s group, both averaging 7:02 pace and finishing 3 seconds apart! Newburyport coach Don Hennigar can still serve it up hot at age 61: he was our 2nd best finisher, and tops in
age M60-64 at 6:50 pace! Nancy McCarthy was best in the F65-69 age
group, at a quick 8:44 pace! Finishing up our award winners is Tom Wylie—
who placed 2nd in the M65-69 category with 9:47 pace.
The weather was righteous for a post race party, and Green Stride served up
libations and good times by the sea!

WCRCer Amanda Deblauw signed up for two Ironman races in 2013. It is unclear if she was possessed by an deranged spirit that
enjoys long periods of pain and suffering, or perhaps just to see what’s under the hood. She started with Ironman Coeur
d’Alene—considered an ‘early season’ race for us
northerners, on June 23. Amanda finished in an amazing 11:20:05, on a bike course with almost 5,000 feet of
climbing. Closing the deal with an incredible 3:33:15
marathon leg, she finished 6th place in her age division,
one place off the podium (top 5 in age). Fast forward to
November 2. After healing up and training through the
summer, her preparation for Ironman Florida in the
bank and well tapered, Amanda uncorked a 5:35:36
bike and ripped a 3:22:10 marathon - crossing with a
blazing finish time of 10:44:09! An incredible new

Chesapeakeman Iron Distance Triathlon
Columbia MD
September 21, 2013
Chip ‘Dr. Science’ Cody and Diane Casselberry travelled to Columbia MD to
race in the Chesapeakeman Iron-distance triathlon, held on the same course as
the famed Eagleman 70.3 race. Dr. Science raced his way to an excellent
14:51:20 for the 140.6 distance, but not without pain: he crashed his bike during
the race and broke his collarbone, suffering intensely over 80 miles on the bike.
At the bike-to-run transition, the medical personnel secured his arm and declared
“there goes the toughest man in this race” as Chip headed out for his marathon.

We all know ultra-runner Amy Mosca peels off 50 mile runs for
fun. Amy also tackled the hot-humid-hilly Ironman Louisville
in late August, and left scorch-marks on the bluegrass state with
a great 14:43:52 finish

Two WCRC triathlete/runners, Dan Maguire and Always
racin’ Judy Graham-Garcia, found their way to Old Orchard
Beach in Maine. Not for strutting around the beach in their
speedos like Canadians, but to race the new and growing Rev3
race series. A half Iron distance triathlon, Mr. Maguire finished
in a fantastic 05:46:01, and JGG completed her journey in
8:17:57 Congrats to both!

WCRC never fails to make the scene (or make a
scene) at the Lobsterman Triathlon, and 2013
was no different. This Olympic distance triathlon (1500 meter swim, 40K bike, 10K run) is a
cold-ocean swim, a hilly bike, and rolly run.
Topping it is a highly competitive field in all
age groups. WCRC brought some of its top
guns: Kona-qualifiers Bruce Lander and Steve
Smith were our first responders, but they were
far from alone. Mary Smith towered atop the
podium, #1 in age! (F60-64). Bruce Lander
took an impressive 2nd in the hotly contested
M55-59 age category. In the M60-64 division,
WCRC shot across the target and hit all but the
bull's-eye: Steve Smith took 2nd and Barry
Fussell took 3rd.
Post race, a genuine lobster bake with Gritty’s
Ale flowing freely kept our gang hip-hoppin’
well into the afternoon! -RR

‘Mainiac’ Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon

A bunch of WCRC maniacs meandered to the ‘Mainiac’ Triathlon and Duathlon
races in Biddeford ME—naturally
racing manically and standing on the
podium menacingly! A 1/4 mile
swim, 14 mile bike and 3.1 mile run
faced our triathletes, and Paul
Bouchard finished in 1:15:52, great
for 3rd in age group M50-54!
Kristen Bouchard isn’t afraid of
crisp coastal ME waters, and romped
the course in a solid 1:40:49! Antiswimmer Adam Nisson opted for the
duathlon, which starts with a 2-mile
beach run, followed by the same bike
and run as the tri. Adam took a solid
3rd in age M55-59, in a quick

Louden NH—August 7, 2014
Three WCRCers raced at NH International Speedway- but not in NASCAR
vehicles! The DARE Classic 5K race course is held
entirely on the speedway grounds, and Super-Chris
Suprin had the horsepower to finish 5th overall and 3rd
in age, M19-29! Chris’s Mom Stephanie Suprin would
not be outdone, and captured 1st in age, F50-59! Sandy
