PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Stan Bormann
We have tried a couple of new things this year in
ACCC that I feel should continue for at least 2011. The
ideas I am talking about are, first, the Leadership Forum
that was hosted by the Prescott Camera Club under the
leadership of Joe Webster and second, having an
educational photo shoot the day after the roundup this fall
which was led by Colleen Miniuk-Sperry and set up by
Jim Smith and Wayne Wellan of Grand Photos. If you
missed out on these events in 2010, I suggest you give
them a try in 2011.
I have heard a lot of positive feedback on the
Leadership Forum in Prescott from those that attended.
Yes, the rain was a problem for a meeting that was
planned to use outside space by a cabin in the woods, so it
was a bit tight, but the consensus was that it was a good
meeting and we are lucky that Joe Webster and Prescott
Camera Club want to lead it again in 2011. They plan on
more inside space this year.
The photo shoot lead by Colleen Miniuk-Sperry
also was challenged by rain but I think those that were
part of the photo shoot had the opportunity to learn and
that was the point. The idea for this originally came from
Adam Jones, our speaker last spring. Adam contacted us
about trying to set this up on Sunday following the
roundup, but we were not prepared for it and it did not
come together. We tried it with Colleen in the fall, and we
will try to put something like this together again in the
spring.
I thought the roundup this fall was a real success,
and I congratulate the Sun Lakes Camera Club for doing
a fine job of planning and holding the roundup. We are
trying to schedule fall roundups to provide more time for
ACCC things, particularly awards which are not part of
the program in spring. The ACCC part of the program
included Phoenix CC winning both print and digital club
awards for the year and Walter Ross and Herman Dirks
being presented with Associate awards. Congratulations
on the success of Phoenix CC and thanks for the
outstanding contributions of Sun Lakes CC, Walter and
Herman.
I thought our speakers Bill Lewis and Colleen
Miniuk-Sperry each did an excellent job. We are trying to
keep presentations both educational and entertaining and
this is a tall order, but they both pulled it off. Bill is of
course a Sun Lakes club member who prepared a fine
presentation. Colleen is a professional and this is what
she does. Both presentations were professional,
entertaining and educational.
We are trying to form a committee to put the
Grand Canyon Photo Travel International Digital
Exhibition and competition back in place in Arizona. We
are interested in finding people interested in helping with
this cause.
We are also trying to start an Arizona
sponsored Pictorial Print Division print circuit in
Arizona.
Both of these efforts require the help of
volunteers from our clubs. Please contact John Frelich
623-975-2824 or myself, Stan Bormann 623-556-9450 if
you would like to help with these efforts.
See you March 26th at the Roundup.
IN MEMORIAM
Bob Metz - December 2010
He was a member of the Camera Guild in Sun
City for many years. He was a master of
monochrome photography in the days of the
dark room. His work was creative and his
compositions were exquisite. Bob is, of course,
the person that the Bob Metz award for
monochrome photography presented by
Camera Guild is named after. Bob had over
1900 acceptances and numerous medals in
PSA, most of them for his monochrome work.
SPRING ROUNDUP -MARCH 26, 2011 1
PHOTO FORUM UNDER
THE PINES
Save the Date !
From all indications, it appears that the first
annual “Soggy Session under the Pines” was a success.
Numerous photographers have stated that they would like
to try again to have a photo forum—without the rain. So,
Prescott Camera Club would like to invite you to the
Second Annual Photo Forum under the Pines.
This year’s forum will take off where last year’s
meeting left off. The program will include a variety of
topics: What did the attendees take away from last time,
what worked and what didn’t. How can clubs work better
and provide meaningful content for its members. For
those clubs that have monthly competitions, how can we
improve those competitions, can we find outside judges,
are there standardized criteria for evaluating images.
How is the most effective way to share ideas with other
clubs. Are there collaborative photo opportunities. What
programs can ACCC member clubs provide. These are
just some the topics that have been thrown about as we
prepare for our second forum.
Last August the rainy season (make that
monsoons) descended upon us with a vengeance. We
moved into the rustic cabin and 24 photographers got to
know one another very quickly. There were lively
discussions on all things photographic and this year
should be no exception, except we are not meeting
outdoors. The venue has changed to a nice cozy
restaurant. So save the date! The second annual Photo
Forum under the Pines will commence at 11:00 A. M.
August 20, 2011 at the Casa Bonita Mexican Restaurant,
junction AZ 69 and AZ 89, Prescott, Arizona. Bring lots
of ideas and be prepared to share.
ACCC SPRING BOARD
MEETING
PLEASE NOTE LOCATION!
The Spring Board Meeting will be on
Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Bell

Coffee, tea and doughnuts will be available to get you
moving that early on Saturday.

ROTATING CATEGORY DEFINITION
Dave Erickson
The Rotating category for the Spring 2011
Round Up is "”Photo Travel”. Current ACCC
competition rules limit digital entry titles to
three words.
NOTE: When labeling digital entries, there
is no space after the commas.
Print entries regardless of size must be mounted
only on 16 x 20 board (no foam core). Please observe the
above title limitation for prints, also.
These are the Rotating categories for 2011, 2012 and 2013:
Year
Spring
Fall
2011
Photo Travel Old Buildings
2012
Motion
Silhouette
2013
Fall Color
Shadows
The definition for "Photo Travel" per PSA is: A Photo
Travel image must express the feeling of a time and place,
and portray a land, its people, or a culture in its natural
state. Photo Travel images have no geographical
limitations. Ultra close-ups which lose their identity and
studio-type model shots are unacceptable. Techniques that
add to, relocate, replace or remove any element of the
original image, except by cropping, are not permitted.
Techniques that enhance the presentation of the image,
without changing the photo travel content, are permitted.
All adjustments must appear natural.”
The Fall 2011 Roundup Rotating Category is “Old
Buildings”. The definition of “Old Buildings” is as
follows: “The physical condition of the building is
indicative of it’s age.”

Our Honors Committee has the
responsibility to assure ACCC recognition is
