Fall 2011 Newsletter
Cimarron Green-Certified Homes:
Almost 450 and Counting!
As an early believer in the benefits of GreenCertified homes, Cimarron committed in 2006 to building
each and every home to the specifications of the NAHB
Research Center National Green Building Certification.
Third party verifiers have confirmed, upon each home’s
completion, that these guidelines have been met, resulting
in an approximate total to date of 440 Green-Certified
Cimarron homes in the Triangle area! Even more
impressive… Cimarron committed in 2005 to building
Energy Star-Certified homes. Third party verifiers have
confirmed throughout these six years that Cimarron has
built approximately 493 Energy Star-Certified homes
throughout the Triangle!
“Energy Star set the standard with the requirement
of third party certification,” says Cimarron Production
Manager Danny Winters. “Lots of companies can say
they’re Energy Star or Green Builders, but third party
certification is what makes these statements meaningful.
Third party verifiers are needed to prove that a very specific,
comprehensive program has been correctly implemented in
the building of each home. Otherwise, builders can say that
they’re Green when all they’ve really done is incorporate a
Green feature here and there in their homes.”
“We’re very proud to have been one of the
leaders in the Green movement in the Triangle,” Danny
continues. “Many people initially thought that Green was a
trend… We recognized early on that Green would provide
excellent, long term value to our customers. Reputable
third parties confirm that our homes consume less
energy and other resources, facilitate better indoor air
quality, and provide a durable product requiring less
maintenance. To us, building high performance/energy
efficient Green homes just makes sense.”
Cimarron has built more Green- and Energy StarCertified homes than any other builder in the Triangle.
Carry on, Cimarron, as the Triangle’s Green industry leader!

Cimarron Collaborates with the
North Carolina Energy Efficiency Alliance
In Cimarron’s quest to continually build high
quality, environmentally friendly, and energy efficient
homes at affordable prices, Cimarron is pleased to
announce its collaboration with the North Carolina
Energy Efficiency Alliance (NCEEA) housed at
Appalachian State University. According to the NCEEA
website (www.ncenergystar.org), NCEEA is a collective
of organizations and businesses working to stimulate the
market for energy efficient construction throughout the
state. As a non-profit coalition funded by a federal grant
through the North Carolina State Energy Office, NCEEA
is devoted to the education of both consumers and home
building professionals on the benefits of Energy Star
homes.
“Cimarron Homes is doing a great job in the
marketplace in regards to green and energy efficient
building,” says Chuck Perry, Program Manager of
the NCEEA. “Based on their construction methodology, they’re providing energy efficient homes with low
operational costs to the consumer. The ASU Energy
Center and the ASU Department of Technology have
partnered to initiate an energy monitoring study in
collaboration with Cimarron Homes. We needed a
builder with a track record of constructing energy
efficient homes to conduct the program; Cimarron is
fully vested in energy efficient building practices. The
study will monitor energy consumption in actual home
usage, as opposed to traditional programs that monitor
energy consumption via computer models. Ultimately,
the intent is to provide factual consumer information
on the savings in operational costs inherent in
energy efficient homes. I have no doubt that the
Cimarron homes involved in the study will yield excellent
information to this end.”
“We work hard to provide tremendous value for
the money,” says Cimarron Homes’ Director of Sales
Justin Morrison. “Our goal is to consistently be the
value leader in the Triangle. Our combination
of great design, functionality, energy efficiency,
durability, and pricing make our homes an excellent
choice. Customers not only spend less money upon
purchase, they also enjoy long-term savings due to our
healthy/Green/energy efficient systems included in each
home. We’re excited to be a part of the ASU study to be able
to factually prove that energy efficient homes are
less costly to operate. Visit us in our communities to
learn more!”

Cimarron Salutes Employees, Past and Present
Everyone familiar with Cimarron Homes knows
that “teamwork” isn’t an abstract concept for the
company, but a way of conducting business, day
after day, month after month, year after year. Each
employee’s contribution to the company and the
industry is valued and appreciated, resulting in an
environment of mutual respect where excellence
thrives. Cimarron President Craig Morrison has
frequently commented over the years that he is
tremendously proud of both the achievements of his team
and of the long standing tenure of his employees.
“Of course I take great pride in how long so many
employees have been with Cimarron,” says Craig.
“For a company of our size, we have a high percentage of
individuals who have been here for more than 10 years.
I’m fortunate to be in a position to really get to know
the goals of each team member, and help them put plans
in place to get them to where they want to be. This has
recently been the case with Apryl Watkins and Julie
Mattera, two terrific long standing employees who have
moved into new chapters of their careers.”
Apryl Watkins retired from
Cimarron in late July after
almost 30 years of service. “Apryl
wore numerous hats at Cimarron,
and was a huge contributor in the
success of our company,” says
Craig. “Although I hated to see
her go, I’m happy for her as she
enters the next phase of her life,
Apryl Watkins
where she will devote her time
and talents on a full time basis to the business she has
nurtured for many years, Custom Floral Creations. I speak
for the entire company in saying that we are grateful for
all that Apryl did for us, and we wish her much success in
her new endeavors.”
As Craig stated, Apryl served in a wide array of
capacities throughout her tenure at Cimarron. For the
first 12 years of her career Apryl worked in the field
as a Cimarron Assistant Superintendent, overseeing
home building procedures and assisting buyers with
selections. Once inside the office, Apryl worked
in Purchasing, In-House Production, and Plan
Design before moving into her most recent position of

Awards, Major Achievements in Marketing Excellence
(MAME) Awards, and Home Builders Association (HBA)
of Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties Awards. As an
Affiliate HBA member, Apryl was actively involved
in various HBA functions over the years, chairing
committees such as Neighborhood Market/Realtor®
Appreciation and the Holiday Gala. In gratitude of her
dedication to the HBA, Apryl was recognized with the HBA
Presidential Service Award on three separate occasions.
Her footprint in the industry was not unnoticed.
“My experience with Cimarron was nothing but
amazing,” says Apryl. “I can’t even begin to list the fond
memories and the wonderful people I’ve met and come to
love. I hold it all close to my heart. I hope to continue to
keep the ties tight and the memories flowing, even though
I’m no longer in the Cimarron office on a daily basis.”
Former Cimarron Builder Sales Consultant Julie
Mattera
recently
moved
into
general brokerage sales with Coldwell
Banker Howard Perry and Walston. “I
was with Cimarron for over 17 years
for many reasons,” says Julie. “Craig
Morrison is a great person, with an
enormous amount of integrity. He’s
surrounded himself with some of the
very best people in the industry to
build homes that are beautiful, highly

functional, energy efficient, and
priced right. I started my career with Cimarron and I’m
very grateful to have had such a long, successful run with
the company. I still feel like I’m a part of the Cimarron

family… Craig has been a great mentor to me for many
years, and I know he will continue to be. In fact, he
referred my first listing!”
“I’m pleased to have played a role in the careers of
both Apryl and Julie,” says Craig. “Just as they thrived at
Cimarron, I know they’ll prosper in their careers from here
forward.”
Kudos to these fine individuals on jobs well done. And
congratulations to the following individuals for their many
years of Cimarron service!

Please join Cimarron President
Craig Morrison in praising Cimarron Project Manager and Certified
Green Professional™ Chad Copley for
his excellent work ethic! A native
of
Durham,
Chad
joined
Cimarron Homes in 2004. In his role as
Project Manager for the communities of
Ashbury Crossing, Ashbury
Green,
and
The Villages at
Copper Stone,
Chad’s primary
resp onsibili ties include the
scheduling,
supervision
and
quality
control of all
construction in
his communities with subcontractors,

vendors, and
suppliers. Equally important, Chad is responsible for all constructionrelated customer service throughout and beyond
the construction process; he conducts a preconstruction meeting and a new home orientation
with his customers, and he is available throughout
the construction and warranty period to answer
questions and resolve issues.
“Chad is a remarkable individual,” says Craig.
“He has a wonderful ‘can-do’ attitude that’s an inspiration to all of us. He sets a great example, not
only in how to efficiently and effectively ‘get the
job done,’ but also in helping those around him
become better at what they do. He does this not just
for his personal benefit, but in the spirit of striving
for excellence. Chad is just a great guy.”
Stagville at Treyburn home owners George and
Nedra Laing describe their interactions
with Cimarron in general and Chad
specifically in a letter George wrote to
Craig:
“During
my
career
in
management we moved many
times throughout the Southeast,”
says George. “I will say, without question that working with the people
associated with your company has been the most
positive of any of the nine different home purchases
we have made in our 51 years of marriage.”
“He has a
wonderful ‘can-do’
attitude that’s an
inspiration to all of us...”
Craig Morrison
Cimarron President
“Chad Copley came on the scene when our
home was just getting underway… This young man
appears to have a great deal of potential… He has
a manner about him that people respond to. At this
point I feel that we have developed friendships and
not just a working relationship. No company is any
better than its people. We are confident that others
within your organization are equally customer service
conscious and caring. With the high standards you
have set, it is no wonder that your company enjoys such
a fine reputation in the community. We have no doubt
that any customer service needs that arise over the
coming months will be handled in the same timely
and professional manner.”
Wouldn’t we all like to bask in such
glowing remarks? Just ask around… Beyond building
homes, Cimarron “gets it” regarding interpersonal
relationships!
