A japanese ancient tale says:
Each one who folds a thousand of paper cranes could see his wish
granted.
The peace symbol - through the Origami crane and from the story of a litlle
japanese girl named Sadako Sasaki - was created.
At 2, Sadako was exposed to atomic radiations when atomic bomb fell in
Hiroshima (1945). Nothing appeared until she was 12 years old. They
detected an uncommon leukemia. Sadako had heard about the ancient
legend and decided to fold one thousand cranes to recover health. She
died some months later after having folded 644 cranes. Her students
friends finished the rest. She was buried with a wreath of thousand cranes.
Mixing butô, hip-hop dance and origami (folding paper art), Valentine
Nagata-Ramos digs in her japanese roots finding inspiration in the ancient
legend to dance the childhood and the progress to become an adult.
The word surrended to the bodies mashed by inhumanity, in the silent
space.The life reminder, in the suffering sound of the Shakuhachi (bambu
japanese flute) announces a time of rebuilding and hope.
The crane flight is imminent in the final swirl.

Valentine NAGATA RAMOS
Valentine was born in Japan in 1981. She lived in
France since her 1 year old.
In 1998, she learned breakdance and participated in
many battles. In 2004, she won the title of world vicechampion with Fantastik Armada at Battle Of The Year
international (BOTY) and, in 2007, the title of world
champion female duo (We B*girlz).
She collaborates with several dance companies as a
performer ( Si je t’m, Défilles, Contrepied, Au féminin
from Black Blanc Beur, Paradis from Montalvo-Hervieu,
Je me sens bien from 6eme Dimension, Racine carrée
and Yonder woman from Par Terre...)
In 2007 she decided to move to a more personal style
connected to her culture ( and therefore chooses to
move closer to Japan and returns once a year) and
created her first solo piece.
Her meeting in 2008 with Karim Amghar, choreographer
from A’corps company, was an inspiration and a trigger
in her choreographic research.

Surprising break dance

« Hip Hop hasn't finished to amaze, to
evolve through the choreographer and
dancer ingenuity. Uzumaki Company, helped
by the WIP (work in progress) from La
Villette, shows a performance called
« Sadako ». Created and performed by
Valentine Nagata-Ramos, this intriguing
show finds inspiration in unknown fields as
hip hop dance, butô and origami. A moving
wonderful story through a very personal
version. The legend says Whoever folds one
thousand cranes of paper will see his wish
granted. Sadako, Hiroshima's victim, begins
that exercise, folding 644 cranes and dies
of leukemia. Valentine Nagata-Ramos dares

"This evening dedicated to the creation gave the opportunity to observe
the nature of this confrontation, because we know it, the institutional
gratitude rarely corresponds to a love marriage.
With the show «Sadako», Valentine, choreographer of the company
Uzumaki, dives back in her culture's depths. She organizes her soloes'
dramatic art by summoning the aesthetics of the butô dance and the
spirits which haunt the old Japanese legends.
Coated by childish melodies, the musical band allies the feverish breath
of machines, in the persisting sound of traditional instruments. The
movements mastered by breakdance freeze in curious postures evoking
strange creatures.
The use of origami folding as unique element for scenery confers a
solemnity on the harsh space standing in for adjustable volums which
guide the dancer's movements. The play which synthetizes improbable
cultural components opens another space-time."

Presented as transverse, the work of creation around breakdance, ask
question when it leaves a commonplace to join the other one. But the hiphop energy, can also act as a powerful control lever. The part of revolt
contained in breakdance is a tool to go to meet the other one in particular
the new public
