WARNING
THIS IS A HEAVY MACHINE. USE PROPER LIFTING
TECHNIQUES TO SET IT ON A WORK SURFACE.
Each T-150 is completely assembled and tested by the
manufacturer. Once assembled and tested, the T-150 is
packed for shipping.
1. Before unpacking the contents of this carton, inspect the
carton for any sign of shipping damage. The T-150
carton has a “Shock Watch” attached to it. If the plastic
tube on the “Shock Watch” is red, the container has
suffered a severe jolt. Report this fact to the Shipping
Carrier and note it on your receiving documents.
NOTE
Shipping damage is the carrier’s responsibility and must
be reported to the same immediately.
2. Unpack the contents, noting how everything is packed.
Remove and save all packing materials (plastic, foam
and cardboard) until you have successfully operated your
T-150. Remove the rubber band from the tab spindle,
guard and dancer roll.
3. Inspect the contents for damaged or missing parts. The
box contains the T-150, a power cord, 1 starter roll of
white tabs and an Operating Manual.
4. Report any damaged or missing parts to the carrier and
your RENA dealer. If you need additional assistance,
contact RENA Systems at 888-444-7362.
5. Read all set-up, power and operating instructions in the

1. INTRODUCTION
1.1
Organization of
this Operating
Manual
This manual starts with a description of your RENA T-150
Stand Alone Tabber, then describes its set up, operation
and maintenance. Finally, information is offered to help
you determine what can go wrong and what to do about it.
There are many helpful tips along the way, and it is
strongly suggested that you become familiar with this entire
manual prior to operating the RENA T-150.
1.2
RENA T-150
Stand Alone
Tabber
Description
The RENA T-150 Stand Alone Tabber is a machine that is
used to seal the open edges of folded mail pieces. It’s
primary function is to prepare mail pieces.
The RENA T-150 Stand Alone Tabber is a simple machine
with distinct feed and tabbing sections. Mail pieces are
loaded into the FEED HOPPER and then fed under the
PEEL BAR where a tab is folded over the lead edge of the
piece being fed through the tabber. Waste backing paper is
taken up on the TAKE-UP SPOOL and the piece is passed
from the machine by the TRANSPORT ROLLERS.
The RENA T-150 Stand Alone Tabber is controlled by the
POWER SWITCH (feeding and transport of the pieces) and
the TAB switch (tabbing on or off). A 5-digit digital
counter keeps track of the job and indicator lights allow the
operator to monitor the status of the machine.

3. FEED HOPPER EXTENSIONS. These components
attach to the PAPER GUIDES and the PAPER STOP to
increase the height of the feed hopper, allowing more to
be loaded at a time.
4. FEED ROLLERS. These are consumable components
that grasp the pieces and move it from the stack of mail
pieces into the tabbing area. The FEED ROLLERS
must be kept clean (see Maintenance). When they wear
down to the level of the FEED TRAY, or cease to feed
when cleaned, have them replaced.
5. PAPER GUIDE LATCHES. Pivot the handle on the
latch, releasing its tension, to slide the PAPER
GUIDES to the correct position.
4.2
Controls &
Power Entry
1. POWER CORD. Plugs into the lower input end of the
machine.
2. POWER ENTRY MODULE. Receives the POWER
CORD and houses the FUSES.
3. POWER SWITCH. Turns power on to the machine,
starting and stopping the feed rollers.
4. TAB SWITCH. Press this button down to tab and up to
stop tabbing.
5. TABBING. This green indicator light comes on
whenever a tab is in the sensor beam. It turns on and off
with each piece that is tabbed. It will also come on and
stay on when there is enough dirt, debris of stray tabs in
the sensor beam to obstruct it.
6. ERROR. The red ERROR indicator will flash most
commonly when the tabber has not applied a tab in the
preset time allotted for it to do so.
7. COUNTER. Keeps count of tabbed pieces. Lot count
only. The red button on the counter resets it. The
COUNTER is powered by a battery that will last for
years.

4. TAB TENSION PLATE. This spring-loaded plate
swivels up to the bottom of the roll of tabs to keep it
from unwinding during operation. More or less tension
can be applied to the roll of tabs by adjusting the spring
tension on shaft that holds the TAB TENSION PLATE.
5. TURNING ROLLER. This is a white plastic roller
that lines the tab strip up with the peel bar.
6. TENSION ROLLER. This roller rests on the
TURNING ROLLER to secure the tab strip as it is
unwound.
7. PEEL BAR ASSEMBLY. The tab strip passes over
the PEEL BAR ASSEMBLY where tabs are stripped
for application to the mail piece. The PEEL BAR
ASSEMBLY can be shortened and lengthened by
loosening the screws on its face and sliding the two
parts of the assembly together or apart. Changing the
length of the PEEL BAR ASSEMBLY changes the
amount of tab wrapped on top of the piece.
8. TRACTORS. The tab strip is kept in place by the
TRACTORS which are driven by a motor that turns the
square shaft, advancing the tabs.
9. INNER COVER. Secured by two compression latches,
the INNER COVER protects drive rollers and the
SENSORS.
10. SENSORS. There is actually just one SENSOR, but it
is made up of two parts, the EMITTER and the
DETECTOR, thus the common term “SENSORS.”
The SENSOR performs double duty. It detects the lead
edge of the tab and the trail edge of the piece. The area
between the two parts of the SENSOR must be kept
clean and dust free.
11. TAKE-UP SPOOL. Waste backing paper is wrapped
around the TAKE-UP SPOOL.
12. CLIP. The white plastic clip secures the waste to the
TAKE-UP SPOOL. It is easily misplaced, so it is a
good idea to have a few on hand.

6. MAINTENANCE
The main cause of trouble with the RENA T-150 Stand
Alone Tabber is irregular feeding of mail pieces. The
machine requires a space between the pieces of about an
inch. If that space doesn’t exist, tabs will be applied
incorrectly, and incorrectly applied tabs find their way into
any number of places. What’s more, since it is the tab that
ends up where it isn’t supposed to be, the trouble is
diagnosed as a tabbing difficulty which isn’t the case at all.
So, paying attention to the feeder pays big dividends in
correct and continuous operation.
Tabs also can cause problems as can the tabbing
mechanisms and sensors. Most trouble results from
accumulations of dirt and debris in the machine. Frequently
remove surface dust or debris from the T-150 using RENA
Canned Air or RENACare for rubber rollers.
6.1
Feed Section
1. Clean the FEED ROLLERS periodically with alcohol
or roller cleaner.
2. Clean the BUMPER ROLLERS in the same manner.
3. Remove the separators from the machine and rotate
them to bring a clean spot in contact with the mail
pieces about once per year.
4. Keep surfaces clean and dust-free.
6.2
Tabs
1. Take a look at the backing paper of tabs that you’re
running. The diecuts around the tabs must not break the
release layer of the backer. Test this by coloring the
release layer with a magic marker. It you can see circles
of ink on the backing paper, the die cuts are too deep.
Any tabs with deep die cuts are suspect. They may run,
but they are almost as likely to fail.
2. The tractor holes must be consistent and in line from
side to side as well as along the strip.
22
03/2003
RENA T-150 STAND ALONE TABBER
Operating Manual
3. Tabs must be centered between the tractors. When tabs
are off center, they are not detected accurately and do
not apply correctly.
4. Store tabs at room temperature for less than a year. It is
best to continually buy fresh tabs than to stockpile a
large number of tabs for a long time. Buy tabs that are
date stamped so that you can keep track.
6.3
Tab Section
1. Clean the PAPER PATH regularly. This includes
removing debris and the like from the sweep.
2. Clean sensors. The easiest way to clean the sensors is to
blow them off with canned air.

situated so that the sensor passes down its center line.

2. Remove INNER COVER.
3. With tabs correctly threaded, sight over the sensor and
by loosening the TRACTOR LATCHES, slide the tabs
one way or the other to bring the center of the tabs in
line with the SENSOR. Line the tabs up with the sensor
