Service With A Smile
We are excited to introduce you to our
new service manager, Matt Knox.
Matt has been employed with Stoltzfus since 1999
and we feel he will do a great job for our customers
in his new position. Matt possesses excellent
communication and people skills that will ensure
exceptional service for our customers and vendors. In the ever changing world
of RV and boat technology and product enhancements, Matt will be tackling
those challenges by keeping up with training standards and ideas.
The Assistant Service Managers (Service Writers) are still the main contact
for our customers, and we strongly encourage everyone to get to know them.
They are: Brian Mallon, Ext. 223, handles all customers with the last name
beginning with the letters A-K; John McWilliams, Ext 224, serves all customers
with the last name beginning with L-Z and Rich Longacre, Ext. 209, assists all
boat customers.
We operate a very large service department—one of the largest in the
northeast—as three small service departments to maximize quality control.
There are three teams, each with its own lead technician: two RV teams and
one boat team with many years of RV and boat experience. Each RV team
consists of certified RV technicians and certified automotive technicians. We
are one of only a few RV dealerships that have automotive technicians. Each
assistant service manager is responsible for a team of technicians.
Matt is always just a phone call away for anyone with special needs or issues.
Bob Cox, our General Manager, will be assisting Matt with his new duties.
We thank you all for allowing us to help satisfy your RV and boating needs.
We have enjoyed our experiences with you as well. Please keep in mind that it
is always our goal to provide 100% customer satisfaction.
Earl Stoltzfus
President

A Fishy Story
M
ichael Rieker, 45, a business
development engineer, and his
wife, Therese, 44, bought a boat so
their daughter, Kara, 5, could enjoy
family time on the water. Michael
shares his thoughts on what makes
boating special for their family.
What type of boat do you own?
2007 Bayliner 19’ Discovery 192 cuddy
How did you decide which
boat to buy?
We looked at the options we wanted
– a cuddy cabin, portable potty. My
wife wanted a pleasure boat and I
wanted a fishing boat so the Discovery
model featured everything that we
were both looking for in a boat.
Have you owned a boat before?
Yes, a Bayliner 19’ 1950 Capri 1997
Bowrider.
What made you decide to buy a boat?
Family time, fishing, knee boarding,
we just love the water.
Did you have boating experience
prior to buying a boat?
Some, but very little. We have no
problem handling the boat because
in the beginning my wife and I took
our time getting comfortable with the
feel of it.

RVs & Marine
What is your favorite
boating destination?
The Upper Chesapeake Bay on the
Elk River and Sassafras River because
it offers so much – Spring time
striped bass fishing, swimming and
kneeboarding in the summer, and
when you’re done, you can ride up to
nice waterfront restaurants. Plus it’s
only a short drive from my house to
the boat ramp. We love to go fishing
on the Susquehanna River flats near
Havre de Grace, MD.
How often do you use your boat?
Not enough! Springtime – every
weekend. Summer time maybe two
times a month on average, and in the
Fall, once or twice.
What do you use the boat for?
Fishing, watersports, cruising.

BOATING LIFE
What was one of your most
memorable boating experiences?
Wow, there’s a lot, but for me it was
when we went striper fishing. Therese
pulled in a 38 lb. striper, and Kara,
who was 3 at the time, went running
to the front of the boat to get away
from it. She didn’t want to go near this
fish because she didn’t know what to
make of this thing that weighed more
than her. We still tease her today.

What advice would you give to
someone looking to buy a boat?
Talk to an experienced sales person.
We were lucky to get Joe Hendrickson
at Stoltzfus when we bought our first
boat. He answered all our questions,
and there were a lot. He also made
some great recommendations. Joe
is the reason why we went back to
Stoltzfus to buy our second boat.R

RV TRAVEL TO WEST POINT MILITARY ACADEMY

Texas. After using it for one year,
Janie says that “we wanted to buy an
RV with a slide out that our Nissan
Frontier could pull and the Pilgrim
Lite fit the profile.”
“With a beautiful campus, mountains and a lovely ride to and from
the campus, West Point is a special
place to visit,” says Janie. (For more
tour information, see page 12.)
The decision to buy an RV was
easy but researching dealers was more
time intensive.
The couple knew they wanted to
experience an RV lifestyle after they
purchased a 25’ Fleetwood Pioneer in
“We chose Stoltzfus RV & Marine
because they were the most accommodating,” said Janie.
As active RV enthusiasts, William
and Janie try to hit the road at least
one weekend a month from the
spring through the fall.
“The most enjoyable part of
RVing is getting away from home,
getting out into the fresh outdoors,
and spending family time together,”
says Janie.
With a reliable global positioning
system (GPS) on board, the couple

TAKING A TOUR OF WEST POINT MILITARY ACADEMY
R
From the day of its founding on March 16, 1802, West Point has grown in its size and stature,
but it remains committed to the task of producing commissioned leaders of character for America’s
Army. Today, the Academy graduates more than 900 new officers annually, which represents
approximately 25 percent of the new lieutenants required by the Army each year. The student
body, or Corps of Cadets, numbers 4,000, of whom approximately 15 percent are women.
Cadets are trained in four critical areas: intellectual, physical, military, and moral-ethical – a
four-year process called the “West Point Experience.” Specific developmental goals are
addressed through several fully coordinated and integrated programs.
Located 50 miles north of New York City in Highland Falls, NY, West Point offers tours to the
public. The Visitors Center is open daily, except major holidays. Operating hours are from 9 a.m.
to 4:45 p.m. Call (845) 938-2638 or visit www.westpointtours.com for more information. It is strongly recommended that visitors call the Visitors Center the week they are traveling to West Point to
check on the status of the tours. A photo ID is required for all adults 16 and older wishing to take
tours or visit West Point. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Nearly 3 million people visit West Point each year, including alumni, friends and families of
West Point cadets, school groups, senior citizens groups, and tourists from throughout America
and the world. The U.S. Military Academy is one of the top three tourist attractions in New York,
according to the New York State Department of Tourism.

home. And we can meet new people
while traveling if we want to.”
Their favorite campground is
Gifford Pinchot State Park in York,
PA. Although it is a state park, Janie
says that it is clean and quiet with lots
of activities, such as fishing, frisbee
golf, and hiking. With 339 campsites,
this park is one of the largest state
park campgrounds in PA. The campground opens on the second Friday in
April and closes the end of October.
All of the sites have macadam pads
and can accommodate virtually any
piece of camping equipment from a
large motor home to the smallest tent.
The campground has an accessible
swimming beach, outdoor amphitheater, some accessible campsites,
hiking trails, boat launching and
mooring area, sanitary dumping
stations, staffed campground office,
and modern bathhouses with flush
toilets and showers. Pets are not
permitted in overnight areas.
Janie’s best advice to RVers is to:
• Always make sure you have a
tool box with you.
• Make sure you have a supply
of bungee cords.
• Make sure you have extra blankets sometimes it gets cold when you
least expect it.
• Take a game or puzzle along to do
with family for family fun time.
• Take a case of water.
• Keep any spare wood around your
house and take that with you.R

A Healthier Choice
RV
travelers do more than just
hit the road in their vehicles.
RVing families get outside and walk,
bike, jog, rollerblade and hike—
whether it’s down small-town streets,
over miles of trails, or through landscaped campgrounds.
According to a Campfire Canvass
survey taken by Dr. Robert Hitlin,
president of Robert Hitlin Research
Associates, Inc., 70% of RVers say
they walk more when on RV trips
than when they are at home. Not
surprising. RVers are sociable people
who walk throughout the campground to meet their “neighbors” and
talk about the newest vehicle innovations. RVers also say they specifically
travel by RV to participate in outdoor
activities like hiking and nature walks.
The most recent Campfire Canvass
survey shows what activities top the
list for RVers -- 53% like to hike/walk,
STOLTZFUS

RVs & Marine
while 32% enjoy biking. However you
look at it, RVers are on the move.
But cardiovascular benefits are not
the only health dividends to be had.
According to an anthropological study
of RV enthusiasts, RVers said they
were both physically and mentally
healthier and happier than their nonRVing counterparts. In fact, a study
conducted by a health psychologist at
SUNY Oswego found that taking vacations reduces the risk of heart disease,
and that spending quality time with a
spouse or significant other actually
lowers a person’s blood pressure. RV
vacations are great pressure valves to let
off the built-up steam of everyday life.
Increasing activity while on the
road, escaping stress, recharging batteries, and bonding/reconnecting with
family members all help to explain
why RVers feel happier and healthier
than if they didn’t RV. In addition to

enjoying time with the family members
they bring along, 60% of RVers report
that they make trips to relax and
catch up by visiting family and friends.
RVs reduce vacation stress by
allowing travelers to control their own
schedule and timetable, by keeping
the family relaxed in familiar surroundings, and by making spur-ofthe-moment getaways possible by
leaving the RV packed with the staples needed to head out of town with
little planning. And, since rest contributes to overall physical health,

The fact that RVers can continue to
adhere to their diets and solid nutritional habits may also be a factor in
their healthier lifestyles. Maintaining

Pocono Mountains
Fall Attractions

I
t’s almost fall in Pennsylvania,
and that means it's time to pack
up your RV and hit the road to
explore the dazzling array of natural beauty in the Pocono Mountains.
Home to 2,400 square miles of
rolling mountain terrain, breathtakingly beautiful waterfalls, thriving
woodlands and 170 miles of winding
rivers, any time of year is a good time
to visit the Pocono Mountains, located
within two hours of Philadelphia.
This region teeming with history
offers year-round cultural tours and
art exhibitions, abundant antiquing,
brand-name shopping and a full
calendar of festivals showcasing the
heritage, music and food of the
Poconos.
As it has for almost two centuries,
the Pocono Mountains region continues
to be so close yet feel so far removed
from the everyday hassles of life – a
region that exudes a calm, carefree
style and engages guests in a myriad of
leisure pursuits and outdoor activities.
Year-round Fishing
From shad, muskie, panfish and
pickerel to bass and some of the best
trout in the country, the Pocono
Mountains offers year-round fishing
in 150 lakes, 170 miles of river and
eight state parks. Fly fishing is a particularly popular sport in the Pocono
Mountains, with ORVIS fly fishing
centers and schools available at
Pocono Manor Golf Resort & Spa,
in Pocono Manor; Skytop Lodge,
in Skytop; and Big Two Resorts, in
Blakeslee.
Shopping Galore
The shopping opportunities are
endless in the Pocono Mountains,
whether you’re searching for rare
finds at antique stores, hot deals at
the outlets or just want to spend the
day window shopping. Jim Thorpe
“The Switzerland of America” bustles
with unique one-of-a-kind restaurants
and shops. In East Stroudsburg, you

1. Dress in team colors!!! Wear a
team jersey or sweatshirt! You are the
12th person on the team…the 1st
player on the Tailgating Team. Show
your team spirit. Tailgaters are the
best fans!!!!!
2. Plan your menu and do prep work a
day or two before the game. Keep the
menu simple (here are some sample
recipes) and pack prepared food in
disposable containers.
3. Make a list of the items you want to
take along. Check off items as you
pack. Pack paper products (plates,
napkins, towels, forks, spoons, etc.)
the night before. Remember such
items as a small first aid kid, trashbags, water, and damp towels in
ziplocks to clean hands and face.
4. Plan to arrive 3 to 4 hours early
and stay 1 to 2 hours after the game.
5. Find a good spot to park. Not all
parking spaces are created equal! Park
next to a grassy area or at the end of
the parking row--this gives you more
room for serious tailgating!
6. Fly a flag on a very high pole so
friends can find you.
run out of ice. Just bring a full extra
ice chest and enjoy.
7. Decorate your tailgate site with
team pennants and other team stuff.
Rain gear When everybody else is in
their car or truck, you’ll be cookin’!
8. Meet your tailgate neighbors, throw
the football with friends, read the
Sunday paper and have a good time!
Note: If attending a Thursday or
Saturday game, substitute appropriate
newspaper.
First aid kit Just in case that football
hits you in the head.
9. Food should be ready 1 and 1/2
hours before the game starts. This is
plenty of time for those going to the
game to eat, clean up and extinguish
fires. (Those not going to the game can
pull out the generator and TV.) Share
food with neighbors. Swap recipes.
10. Leave area clean. Begin thinking
about food and friends for the next
game.

BBQ PULLED BEEF
from Kyle, an EAGLES Tailgater
5-6 lb. of beef chuck roast
3 carrots, chopped in large chunks
1 large onion, quartered
2 bay leaves
4 large garlic cloves smashed
2 ribs celery, cut in large chunks
1 large bottle of favorite BBQ sauce,
I use Sweet Baby Rays spicy Honey
PHILLY CHEESESTEAK–
WID OR WID-OUT
Courtesy of da' Navy Chief
from Northeast Philly
10-inch Italian roll
6 oz. chipped eyeroast or choice round
5 slices of white American cheese or
Provolone or
3 oz. Cheese Whiz
2 oz. chopped onions
1 oz. olive oil
In a large stock pot add all ingredients except the BBQ sauce, and just
cover with water. Bring to a boil, then cover, and turn down heat to a
simmer. Let beef simmer for about 2 1/2 hours, or until meat begins to
fall apart easily. Remove meat from pot reserving the cooking liquid.
Let cool briefly, then begin to “pull” the beef with 2 forks, resulting in a
shredded beef. Add the pulled beef to a large bowl. Add BBQ sauce,
and enough of the cooking liquid to give the beef a "cole slaw" look. I
add about 1 cup of the cooking liquid along with the BBQ sauce. I then
place the beef in a foil pan so it can be heated up on the grill, and
serve on toasted hamburger buns. It is the best! Enjoy!
Partially freeze the roast, then slice as thin as possible about 1/16 of
an inch. Fry onions in olive oil. Add the meat. Chop it up as it is cooking. If you are using real cheese, mix the meat and onions together in a
mound. Lay the cheese on and just before it starts to melt, lay the roll
on top. Let cook for about 15 seconds and flip the whole thing over. If
using Cheese Whiz, still mix the meat and onions, but slab the Cheese
Whiz all over the roll. Some people like to "gut" the roll" (pull out the
bread). Not as chewy, but not as messy either. Still other people like
fried mushrooms, green peppers, or pizza sauce.

Toyhaulers
RVs for Active Lifestyles
oy haulers are the latest innovation in recreational vehicle
technology. Thousands can be saved
by purchasing them in the fall when
new model years are introduced. But
where can you use them in the winter?
T
First of all, a definition is in order
for the term toy hauler. They’re traditional travel trailers with a cargo bay
and cargo doors in the back. This is a
very versatile cargo area which is sold
in rather bare condition and can be
tailored to numerous purposes.
For the traditional snow bird a
long toy hauler can almost be like a
house with an attached garage. The
truck that hauls it may not fit inside
but all of the things normally squeezing the car out of the garage will fit in.
So that’s the first place to take the
toy hauler in winter: a warm climate!
Arizona has nine Kampground of
America (KOA) locations and all but
one is open year around. But for a lot
of snow birds, Florida is the winter
destination. Come spring pull up
stakes and move back north in order
to avoid the extreme tropical heat.
When looking for a winter destination remember that the toy hauler is
itself being hauled. Much of the
nation’s more scenic destinations are
not navigable with a trailer in tow.
Some of the mountain roads of
22
But toy haulers have a special
attraction for those with a lot of
athletic gear or animals to take along
when traveling. Showing dogs? Plenty
of area for cages, grooming tables or
using for training during down time.
