Adeline Halvorson - Canards Illimités Canada
Adeline Halvorson Adeline Halvorson is best known for her accurate depiction of equine subjects. With sensitivity and a keen eye for anatomy, she captures the essence and personality of the animals that touch our lives – the everyday workers, the faithful companions. Halvorson was selected to join Ducks Unlimited Canada’s (DUC) National Art Portfolio – a limited edition series available only through DUC fundraising initiatives. The money raised through this program supports DUC’s on-the-ground wetland conservation work, scientific research and education programs. The Inspiration for An Honest Day’s Work “I photographed this team at a ploughing demonstration in Coronation, Alberta,” Halvorson explained. “I was particularly struck by the mismatched harness and the obviously older, more experienced horse working with the younger ‘trainee.’ I wanted to capture in the painting a simpler time when harnesses (or teams for that matter) weren’t all matched and polished; when the young followed and respected the older and more experienced, and when An Honest Day’s Work was all that was required.” An Honest Day’s Work – 2012 The Inspiration for Mutual “Horses are very social animals,” says Halvorson. “One of my favorite subjects to capture in a painting is that quiet interaction between two animals, just enjoying each other’s company and each benefiting from the companionship of the other.” Mutual – 2011 Adeline Halvorson The Inspiration for At the Gate “Horses are always eager to come to the gate to investigate a newcomer,” Halvorson says. “This group of young racehorse prospects was doing just that, interrupting their sunny spring morning to come to the gate to and see if anyone had a treat for them.” At the Gate – 2010 ducks.ca
