The grant is for a botanical survey and to begin management of newly acquired forested land between Beith Road and Bowgren Circle. The botanical survey will document the quality of the woods and guide restoration efforts. “Although disturbed from past land use and fire suppression, this is a nice woodland that contains several large oak trees; rolling topography is another fine feature. This landscape has great restoration potential and would provide a wonderful passive-recreational experience”, according to Ken Johnson, our ecological restoration specialist. Denise Morgan, restoration technician, adds “I look forward to beginning to remove aggressive non-native plants such as garlic mustard and Dame’s “Photos: Jack Shouba” Campton Township Page 2 Campton Township Memorial Tree Program A tree is a recognized symbol of nature’s strength, beauty and endurance. Landscape waste includes leaves, grass and shrubbery cuttings, flowers, and weeds. Garbage, paper, and other such items also may not be burned under any conditions. Brush is the only material that can legally be burned in most of the County. Brush includes tree trunks, limbs, branches, and twigs. (2) Larger piles of brush may be burned, but only on sunny days, between the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm, when the wind speed is not greater than 10 mph. Any burning must be supervised, and cannot be within 20 feet of any structure or property line. Complaints about cases of improper burning should be made during business hours to the Kane County Health Department at 630-208-3801. To that end, we mailed in July to all Campton residents a newsletter and recycling guide sticker. The sticker is a quick reference guide to recycling and Waste Management contact information. Also as part of the newsletter, an offer to residents to “super size” their recycling cart was included. The response was terrific as many Campton residents responded to increase the size of their recycling cart. The offer for a free upgrade is now over and all exchanges have been made. Upgrades and additional carts are still available from Waste Management at a cost of $35.00 per cart. Should you want to change the size of your recycling cart or obtain another, please contact Waste Management by calling Customer Service: 1-800-796-9696, Monday – Friday, between 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM, excluding holidays. Additionally, CTSWDD continued with developing recycling awareness by participating in the “National Community Night” on August 7th, with a table-top display challenging participants with recyclable items. Recycling focused give-away items were provided by Waste Management. Overall, the event was successful in continuing to develop an awareness of recycling and reduction of buried waste. As part of the District’s recycling awareness campaign, we are also educating residents aboutnon-recyclable items, and those items that are difficult to handle such as the wire hangers that shirts and coats come on from the cleaners. These items are recyclable, but not through the District as they become entangled in recycling separation machinery. These items can be recycled by returning them to the cleaner who you use. They are welcome there. CTSWDD is on target with its goal of recycling education and awareness. The District also participated in the “Campton Hills Heritage Farm Fest” celebration with a table-top display similar to the National Community night out on September 15th. Of additional focus by the CTSWDD are the energy efficient fluorescent bulbs that are becoming more popular as energy costs rise. Within the bulbs there is a small amount of mercury and CTSWDD is working with Waste Management on the proper disposal. Please visit the District web site: www.ctswdd.org for more information as it becomes available. As always, should you have any questions or comments, please contact me through our web site or join a meeting. We meet the 4th Monday of every month at the Campton Community Center off of Old LaFox Road. Respectfully, Greg Van Zandt President CTSWDD Campton Township Campton Township Page 4 Highway District Announces Brush Pick-Up for October 2007 Brush pick-up will run October 15 thru 19th for residents living north of Route 64. Brush pick-up will run October 22nd thru 26th for residents living south of Route 64. Highway Commissioner Sam Gallucci requests that certain guidelines be followed by residents to insure pick-up by road crew: The maximum accepted diameter for tree limbs is 18 inches with lengths up to 8 feet. Brush must be piled neatly, with cut ends facing the road. Small twigs should be tied together; do not include any type of yard waste items. For a detailed guideline, please refer to Campton Township website www.camptontownship.com or call the Campton Township Highway District Office at (630) 365-9300. Brush should be placed by the road the Sunday before your scheduled brush pick-up week. The Highway District is making one time pass only. Brush Chip Delivery Update….. NO BRUSH CHIPS will be delivered anywhere in Campton Township due to the Emerald Ash Borer infestation during brush pickup period. SNOW AND ICE REMOVAL Campton Township begins plowing and salting the roadways at an inch or more of snow with salting behind the plow. We keep going until the storm is done. For ice control we to start apply salt as soon as it starts to freeze on the surfaces. The township doesn’t have a parking ban for snow control, but the state does. We ask for your cooperation with keeping your cars off the street until a storm is done and your street has been plowed and widened. It may save you a costly ticket and tow charge. Occasionally a snow or heavy slush from a snowplow rolls off the blade and sometimes knocks over mailboxs. Most mailboxes, if they are placed and installed properly, will withstand the snow or slush up against them. If they are knocked, down however, the township will only replace mailboxes with the standard mailbox and a 4x4 wood post, or we will reimburse the homeowner $75.00 towards a new one. Please contact us at 630-3659300. Our snow plows discharge snow to the curbside of the street and inevitably into your driveways. If you can delay cleaning out the end of your driveway until the street is plowed you’ll save yourself several shoveling trips. It is a violation of Illinois law to plow, push, blow or in anyway place snow upon a public road, from adjoining property. Please shovel driveway ends to the sides. If you plow into the roadway, you could be liable for all incidents which may result. Welcome New Residents..
