The party invitations are pouring in. How will you dress
up for the holidays? Forget the old standby velvet party dress
and strand of pearls. Opt for elegant styling by designer Dana
Buchman, who recently presented her polished sophisticated
suits and career looks at a private cocktail party and fashion
show at Bloomingdale’s at Bridgewater Commons. Proceeds
from Dana Buchman purchases that evening benefited
Somerset Medical Center Auxiliary.
Ms. Buchman’s collection, which easily glides from day to
evening, takes holiday dressing to three levels: visiting friends,
entertaining at home, and painting the town. Ms. Buchman
recommends knitwear for all around comfort when bundling
up and driving to the countryside. Jeans and stretch
style pants, topped with cable tweed sweaters,
provide the casual side of holiday wear.
Boots are a key accessory for casual attire.
For fun at home, Ms. Buchman suggests
cozy velour and knit dressing, comfortable for curling up by the fireside. When
entertaining, party clothes of embellished
sweaters and delicately embroidered
pants worn with stiletto heels keep the
wine and conversation flowing.

A cocktail party or an evening at “The
Nutcracker” commands a candlelight palette of
beautiful silk suits and sexy blouses, or a black
tuxedo jacket complemented by gold and champagne pieces.
“A dressy sweater and evening pants in silk
brocade is the modern way to look dressed up,
sophisticated and chic. Evening pants and a
sweater can go anywhere and look fantastic,”
Ms. Buchman says. Sweaters in cashmere or
lightweight wool with beaded embellishment or
fur trim feel good next to the skin and can be
worn with leather pants. The embellishment
can serve as a necklace, adding earrings to bring
out a woman’s personality.
Ms. Buchman takes pride in utilizing luxury
fabrications such as silk, cashmere, new brocades, interesting textures, and lambs wool.
She has favorite fabrics for each season,
“You must start with beautiful fabrics.
Without it, you cannot create beautiful
designs.” She personally tries on all
her designs so she knows how the fabric feels against her skin and how the
garment moves around her body.

sprinkled with peacock blue beads, resting on
the same color slim leg pant with embroidered
peacock blue flowers, is suitable for an office
party or a New Year’s Eve bash.
Ms. Buchman enjoys designing with animal
prints, making a bold statement with a zebra
print ottoman jacket worn over a black shell and
wool pants. Pair the zebra pants with a heavenly black cashmere sweater for another effect.
As a suit lover, she likes to throw evening jackets over short skirts and sexy sweaters.
